Comments about Homework 3
1) 1.6.101: Almost all students received 3/3. The only problem was that they showed
very little work for it.
2) 1.7.5: Most students received 3/3 on this one as well. They all made a table showing
k,xk ,yk , and fk for k from 0 to 5. Very few actually showed the formula for yk . The
other problem is that most students didn’t clearly indicate what the answer was, they
just filled out the table and left it like that.
3) 2.1.10: This questions was done poorly by a majority of students. Many only did part
(a), and some of those who did part (b) tried y = y1 ∗ v but then got confused in the
resulting equations. Very few actually used the form for y2 derived in the previous
question.
4) 2.2.7: Most students received 3/3. The only common mistake was sign errors.
5) 2.2.103: Similarly done to 2.2.7. Most students received 3/3.
