Mark Goyder
Founder Director - Tomorrow's Company
After 15 years as a manager in manufacturing businesses, Mark initiated
the RSA Tomorrow's Company inquiry into ‘the role of business in a
changing world’. The resulting report, published in 1995 led to the
creation of Tomorrow’s Company as an independent, business-led think
tank. It also laid the foundations for the “enlightened shareholder value”
approach in the redefinition of the directors’ duties in the 2006 Companies
Act.
Mark has served in advisory capacities for British Airways, BT, Cooperative Financial Services and Novo Nordisk, and currently with Alliance
Boots, and Camelot.
A broadcaster, writer and winner of the Institute of Management Studies
Tillers Millennium Trophy for best speaker, Mark was Director Magazine
Director of the Month in June 2004. Journalist Anthony Hilton described
Tomorrow’s Company as “five years ahead of the pack in looking at what
is needed in governance terms to make British companies sustainable
wealth creators”.
In recent years he has concentrated on the issue of board and investor
responsibilities for stewardship, co-authoring a report with the Institute
for Family Business on Family Business Stewardship.
He is currently a member of the UK’s Investor Stewardship Working Party
which in 2012 launched the 2020 Stewardship report.
Mark Hastings
Director General - Institute for Family Business
Mark is a strategic communications and public affairs professional, with a
proven and consistent track record of delivering high profile agendasetting media, public policy and stakeholder programmes that have
significantly enhanced the reputation and results of organisations.
Previously he has run his own business, delivering senior executive
counsel and support on public affairs and communications issues to client
companies. Before this he spent ten years as director of communications
of The British Beer & Pub Association and five years as head of policy for
the Institute of Management.
Prior to this, Mark spent ten years in management consultancy focusing
on the delivery of public policy and communications programmes and
advice for senior management in a range of blue chip companies. He has
an MSc in European Political Economy from the London School of
Economics and a B Soc Sc in Political Science from Birmingham University.
He is married with two children, Jemima (12) and Tom (10).
Hannah Marriage
Director - W & H Marriage & Sons
Hannah is a Cranfield Executive Modular MBA student (2012-4). She is
one of the sixth generation of the Marriage family working at W & H
Marriage & Sons; independent millers in Essex since 1824
(www.flour.co.uk). Recently appointed a Director, she is responsible for
Flour Marketing.
Prior to joining the family firm, Hannah read History at the University of
Edinburgh and did a graduate scheme at global Public Relations firm,
Weber Shandwick.

Jonny Wates
Family Director – Wates Group
Jonny commenced his career at Grand Metropolitan (now Diageo) working
in brand marketing on the UK drinks business. He joined Wates
Developments in 1995 and was their Sales & Marketing Director from
1997. Jonny held the position of Wates Group Marketing Director until
2006. He is currently a member of the Wates Group Board and a director
of Gambado Ltd one of the UK’s leading indoor children’s play businesses.
He is Founder Chairman of Myriad CEG a UK wide provider of onsite
renewable energy solutions (www.myriadCEG.com).
Jonny is also a trustee of the Wates Family Enterprise Trust, the William
Wates Memorial Trust and a Governor of Cranleigh School. He has an
MBA from Cranfield University.
Jonny lives in West Sussex with his wife and three children.
