Lecturer in Occupational Hygiene, experience working in the area of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, working in research, industry and academia. Her research interests include the assessment of environmental and occupational exposures and the completion of health based risk assessments. Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Optimising Occupational Hygiene exposure assessment strategy - Active Pharmaceutical manufacturing case study As pharmaceutical compounds, become more potent and pose a greater challenge from an exposure control perspective. This project will be industry based, working occupational hygienists who are working in the Pharma sector in Brazil. Drawing on international best practice, this project will investigate the applicability of exposure assessment strategies for controlling exposures to API’s. Version 2 Universidade Nacional da Irlanda em Galway -- Ciência sem Fronteiras Unique selling points of PhD project in NUI Galway: NUI Galway projects should emphasise features that are not typically available in Brazil – specific equipment, multi-disciplinarity, aspects of structured programme, links with industry, placements, links with other research groups etc. The PI has developed links with members of the Brazilian Occupational Hygiene Society, working in the Pharmaceutical industry in Brazil. PI has worked in the Pharmaceutical industry as an Occupational Hygienists, and also supervised Occupational hygiene research industry based projects. The PI is familiar with exposure assessment and control approaches used the pharma sector. The PI has extensive experience in experimental techniques required to measure occupational exposure, and the student will be trained inhouse. Student will benefit from being embedded within research centres (CCAPS- Centre for Climate and Air Pollution Studies and Centre of Health for the Environment) that have large researcher numbers and extensive research facilities.
