1.1 Introduction
A Word on the Links:
This document is a set of links to web sites that will assist you in finding
resources for implementing EDA - Electronic Design Automation for
hardware design and development. These links are chosen for because they
bear on that mission. Real electronic parts and the objectives of
manufacturing working products from them are involved along with the
disciplines of quality, reliability, statistical analysis, etc. In this enterprise
software and technical understanding are the enabling tools for success.
Modeling and simulating the behavior of the parts and their circuits before
during and after the hardware development is now a way of life. The ability
to try many "what-if" scenarios very quickly and early in the development
cycle in a virtual world is a critical competitive edge.
The web sites herein are grouped into categories. The web sites are
primarily suppliers, consultants, trainers, universities and organizations
affecting some aspect of the design and manufacture of electronic
equipment. Very often, a given source is active in many aspects of this
arena. For instance, a major EDA software vendor such as Cadence has
resources for: · Modeling ICs and PWBs Simulating boards, ICs, systems

and embedded systems in analog/RF, digital and mixed signal Consulting,
instructional materials, training, and design services in the above And, so on.
Sometimes a site (or sub-site) is listed in more than one category. The best
advice is to browse a given site to see their current offerings.
This list of links and web pages becomes out-of-date even as it is
updated. The web is a dynamic, ever-changing place. Pages, products,
services, personalities, content, companies, and much more, is constantly
being added, dropped and otherwise revamped as you surf this list.
This list will be infrequently updated. However, any information about
changes or additions will be updated as expeditiously as possible. The list is
not exhaustive. Rather, it's intended to provide a start into a given area of
resources. Right now it's most useful in the areas of simulation, modeling
and sourcing ICs to go on PWBs for high-speed digital design. The
categories for grouping the links are as follows:

First, there are introductory groups covering web searching,
discussion groups and EDA organizations come first.
Then, the web links herein are classified into three broad
categories:

Sites primarily for obtaining software

Sites primarily for obtaining parts

Sites primarily for obtaining knowledge
The software group is split into, first; simulation engines, then,
simulation models. Also, there are two miscellaneous groups: Software and
equipment used to verify models and simulations. TRIZ, a disciplined way
of encouraging creative thinking and problem solving. Lastly, there can be
considerable category overlap within a given site. A given supplier may
attempt to be very broad-based in their product and service offering.
