Improved Incentives, More Partners: Cisco’s New ASPVP At-A-Glance

At-A-Glance
ASPVP Partner Value Just Went UP
Say hello to a new and updated product portfolio, better
rewards and mainstream access to OIP, TIP and SIP.
With Cisco’s refreshed Authorized Service Provider
Video Program (ASPVP), we’ve refocused to better
serve partner needs, adding new products to our
training portfolio and greater incentives for hunting new
opportunities, building solutions and teaming with Cisco.
Helping Partners Prepare for
a Bigger Video Picture
Video infrastructure upgrades, managed services and
the advent of the connected home are reshaping the
market for Service Providers (SP) and the channel
partners who sell to them. Investments in end-to-end
IP architecture—from network to transport to access and
set-tops—have helped establish a robust platform for IP
video. Adding to the excitement, the economics behind
network and video-based applications are coming into
alignment. From 2009 to 2014, worldwide Internet video
traffic is expected to increase eight-fold, reaching a
compound annual growth rate of 52 percent. At that
point, if you decided to sit down and actually watch the
total volume of video that’s expected to zip across the
global network in just one second, it would take you
nearly two years of non-stop staring at a video screen.
It’s an environment in which SPs are increasingly
recognizing that, to increase market share in the video
space and offer the integrated digital environment
their customers demand, they need to look beyond

access-only technology to “glass-to-glass” solutions.
And that’s where Cisco comes in. We provide global
end-to-end solutions that reach from the camera
through the network to the viewing audience. Video is
an integral element in nearly every type of converged
communications experience, whether it involves:
• Managed video applications such as video on
demand and network video recording (DVR)
• Video communications services such as interactive
TV and video telephony
• Or “over-the-top” video as a method for delivering
content to other digital devices
To deliver that experience, SPs are shifting the focus to
IP-based next-generation networks. Backed by Cisco’s
leading-edge video products, our channel partners are
uniquely positioned to help service providers transform
their businesses by providing industry-leading intelligent
solutions and strategies for connecting customers with
services, services with networks, and networks with
each other.
Our newly refreshed ASPVP program is aimed at
cultivating an ecosystem of experienced and proactive
video partners to help us expand the community of SPs
who use Cisco video solutions. In addition to potentially
increasing SP video partner revenues, the purpose
of ASPVP, which is part of our overall Resale Channel
Program, is to more precisely align our partners with the
discounts, services, support and incentives that are an
integral part of the Cisco channel strategy.
More and Better
By participating in Cisco’s ASPVP, qualified video
channel partners will be better positioned to identify
global opportunities and deliver the solutions SPs
need to provide a complete, converged customer
video experience. Here’s a look at just some of the
program’s new enhancements:

At-A-Glance
• Partners no longer must achieve Premier Certification
to be an ASPVP member. Premier status still is
highly recommended, but not required. Partners that
already have achieved this milestone will be able
to take advantage of certification benefits for Cisco
classic products, and can use it to help meet entry
requirements for Cisco incentive programs such
as OIP, TIP, SIP and upcoming Technical Services
promotion benefits.
• All training will be refreshed to include updated
information on current product solutions and
new video technologies such as the Cisco Media
Processor Family, Transcode Manager and the
Videoscape Media Suite.
• All exams will be unified into one complete exam for
each role (account manager, systems engineer 1
and systems engineer 2), and will be available online.
A new exam for the account manager role will
be mandatory.
Getting Onboard
Cisco’s refreshed ASPVP Program leaves the station
Nov. 14, 2011, and qualified video companies wishing to
become partners can come aboard anytime, contingent
upon their ability to meet training requirements (Wireline
and Cable Headend, Cable Access and Digital Media)
and pass the required exams. Previous training programs
will no longer be accessible after Nov. 14. Existing
partners whose contracts come up for renewal between
Nov. 14, 2011, and Feb. 12, 2012, will have a period
of 90 days (commencing Nov. 14) during which they
can renew their status by taking either the old or the
new training and exams. Partners whose renewal dates
fall after Feb. 12, 2012, must take the new qualifying
training and exams.
