In the beginning, readers should think about the exposition and the setting. As the story progresses, readers begin connecting to the characters within the story, and once finished reading reflect on the meaning of the work as a whole. To begin the reflection process one interesting avenue is to consider what happened to the characters before the story began, or how do the characters continue to live once the story has come to its conclusion. Assignment: After you finish reading Of Mice and Men, we want you to begin this reflection process in a creative way. Please choose one of the following options: • Option 1 - write a prologue to the story that addresses an event that would have occurred before the story began. • Option 2 – write an epilogue that would address one event in the life of at least one character following the story’s conclusion. Requirements: • Typed, 12 pt. font, double spaced, paragraph format • This must be printed to turn in on the second day of class • Your piece must be at least one page long Grade: Keep in mind you are preparing your reading assignment for the fall.
