Of Mice and Men
Description: While reading for the purpose of study, students have many things to think about
while they read. In the beginning, readers should think about the exposition and the setting. As the
story progresses, readers begin connecting to the characters within the story, and once finished
reading reflect on the meaning of the work as a whole. To begin the reflection process one interesting
avenue is to consider what happened to the characters before the story began, or how do the
characters continue to live once the story has come to its conclusion.
Assignment: After you finish reading Of Mice and Men, we want you to begin this reflection process
in a creative way. Please choose one of the following options:
• Option 1 - write a prologue to the story that addresses an event that would have occurred
before the story began.
• Option 2 – write an epilogue that would address one event in the life of at least one character
following the story’s conclusion.
