President’s Message
Last year was an incredible year for TMCC—an award-winning
year—with several of our programs receiving honors. Our dental
hygiene program was ranked in the top 3 percent nationally out
of 263 programs. Additionally, our nursing students ranked No. 1 in
the state on the required registered nurse exam with a 100 percent
passing rate.
High-quality education is critical to our community. It has a
direct impact on the quality of life including reduced welfare,
unemployment and crime rates. Northern Nevada directly and
indirectly receives roughly $678 million each year because of
TMCC graduates, students, faculty and staff. This impact is so
great because so many of our graduates join Northern Nevada’s
workforce: nearly 95 percent of our graduates remain in Nevada to
work and raise their families after they complete their degrees.
Making this graduate job placement possible is the hard-working
TMCC faculty and staff who serve more than 32,000 unique
students each year. This diverse staff includes individuals from a
variety of professions including faculty, instructors, administrative
staff, support staff and more. Our staff is absolutely committed to
the success of our students, and I’m constantly amazed at their
passion and commitment.
As industries expand in Northern Nevada, across the country and
around the world, TMCC will continue its role as the college for
people looking to expand their knowledge base. TMCC offers
convenient ways for a student to earn a degree, obtain certification
in a specific field or brush up on current job skills. Simply put, we
are the area’s “Jobs College” and our record supports this identity.
Although the current circumstances in our state budget remain
strained, TMCC continued to make strides financially to ensure
the future of the college, its students and the community. The
college plays a vital role in the economic development of Northern
Nevada, and TMCC remains committed to providing students with
a high-quality education that gives them the best opportunities to
succeed.
