The Creative Youth Center (CYC) is an organization in the Baxter neighborhood of
Grand Rapids that provides creative writing classes and workshops for students in
grades 1-12. At the CYC, kids become published authors, leading to a strong sense
of identity and an enthusiasm for learning. Our programs are free for all students
attending Grand Rapids Public Schools. The CYC's mission is to prepare kids for
life’s adventures by supporting their writing and amplifying their voices. At the
CYC, we believe that while nurturing kids’ writing can give them access to the

Founded in 1986, the Literacy Center of West Michigan is committed to bringing
about a just and vibrant West Michigan through the power of literacy. This mission
statement, developed as part of our strategic planning efforts, is our bold
commitment to making West Michigan a region that is known for having one of the
highest levels of literacy in the nation. To this end, the Literacy Center works
alongside adults, both native speakers and English language learners, who struggle
with literacy skills and read below a 9th grade level. The Literacy Center served 963

The Family Literacy Program relies on AmeriCorps Members to
provide services at the schools. We have a team of 10

Michigan Education Corps believes children deserve a chance—which means
intervening early to help struggling students reach reading proficiency. To do this,

WMEAC has been West Michigan’s preeminent resource for environmental
