第一次出國，就去了離家鄉最遠的那一端──美國，第一次體驗坐飛機的
感覺，當飛機升上天空的時候，心情好複雜，這是第一次離開這片陪我 20 年的
土地，但是這種感傷的想法並沒有占據我太久，因為我立刻就被窗外的景色給吸
引了，從上空看到的是家家戶戶溫暖的小窗子，一個一個洋溢的幸福的燈光，但
不到幾秒鐘，緊接而來的是不停折磨我的耳鳴，不停的吞口水後，還好有舒服一
些，然後就是在飛機上長達 15 小時的睡覺、吃東西、看電影。
到了美國後，時差的問題雖然很痛苦，但是第一次體驗到美國的環境、人
們和上課方式實在太讓人興奮了，時差的困難立刻被克服。第一天的行程是帶我
們逛逛校園，IPFW 的校園好大喔！而且我們還逛了一座小花園，老師都很熱情，
邊散步邊講解植物，不過第一天到那邊心情有點緊張，對於一長串的英文還真的
有點搞不懂呢！不過很真的很享受也很愛在快樂中學習的感覺。
第一次踏進宿舍的時候真是嚇到了！那看起來就像一棟豪華別墅，而裡面
的設備應有盡有，大冰箱、烤箱、瓦斯爐、微波爐、洗衣機和烘衣機等等，樣樣
都好高級，讓人有點難以置信這只是學生宿舍，但儘管有豪華的廚房，我們使用
它的時間也只有每天的早餐，因為大部分時間都是外食，而美國的食物，不外乎
是些 pizza、漢堡之類的食物，但是老師們很貼心的會準備亞洲的餐點，幫助我
們能更適應美國的生活。
美國的天氣很舒服，唯一和台灣不一樣的地方就是空氣很乾，和潮濕的台
灣差很多。在美國，皮膚很容易龜裂和脫皮，讓我很不習慣。但也許是感乾燥的
關係，我在美國並不會一直流汗，流汗會讓身體濕濕的、黏黏的，我不喜歡這種
感覺，所以美國的天氣很宜人。
下課後，學校都會安排我們去附近的商場採買日常用品，在美國，所有的
商品都像被用多啦 A 夢的放大燈照過了一樣，每樣東西都放大了一倍，而且商
品的標價都要自己加稅金上去，好麻煩喔，感覺很不習慣。課後活動除了出去採
買的行程外，同學們彼此也會約去打籃球、排球、桌球或散步，有時候也會約去
club house 看電影或是打撞球，我比較喜歡打排球，因為校園裡的排球場是沙灘
排球，在台灣的時候從來沒有體驗過，而後來發現沙灘排球的運動效果比平地上
的效果大很多，因為在沙地上腳都要耗很多力氣才抬的起來，才跑一小段路就已
經氣喘吁吁了，但跟大家一起打球，就算很累也都很開心！
在印地安納普渡大學中的一個月，剛好有碰到印第安納州的一大盛事──
三江節，三江節舉辦了很多的活動和競賽，我們參加了遊行，遊行活動好盛大，
看到很多很有意義的事物，我印象最深刻的畫面是有好多哈雷機車在我面前發出
轟轟的聲響，每一台哈雷都好帥，讓我看的目不轉睛，那樣的畫面讓我覺得很震
撼！除了遊行之外，我們還參加了划船比賽，遊學團的同學們一共分成 5 組，我
和其他兩個同學一起在一艘小船上左晃右晃，好緊張好刺激喔，深怕一個不小心
重心一偏，大家就會一起落水，三個人同心協力保持平衡並努力的往前划，但終
究不敵身強體壯的外國選手們，但我們那一組還是很光榮的獲得了「台灣組」第
一名，而且還有記者訪問我們耶，第一次出國就上了新聞，覺得好開心喔！這真
是一個超棒的體驗。
在 IPFW 的一個月，遇到的不只是當地的美國人，還有從四面八方來的人
們，有韓國、日本、中國、菲律賓等等，每個人都有不同的特色，我想那是各國
文化差異的關係吧，在一場各國學生文化交流的活動中，各國學生都介紹了自己
國家的特色，一段又一段精彩的報告不只是讓我學到很多各國文化，更讓我感受
到，每個人都因自己身在自己的家鄉為榮，那是一個很棒很有意義的活動，跟別
人交流的過程也讓我感受到大家想要交朋友的熱情，那股熱情把原本生性靦腆的
台灣文化融化了，我也好開心可以認識四面八方的人。
沒想到期待好久的一個月的旅程這麼快就結束了，很開心自己能成為學海
計畫中的一員，也很謝謝印地安納普渡大學這麼熱情的協助我們、招待我們，還
有老師認真的準備各項教材幫助我們提升英文能力，甚至在我們回台灣後也不中
斷的透過網路提供英文單字讓我們學習，很幸運能再大學生活中有這一段美麗的
經驗，這是一段回不去但也忘不掉的記憶，能有機會的話希望能再和同學們再走
一趟 IPFW！
這是我第一次出國遊學，由於有點緊張，所以我的表現可能不太好，但是
我還是很享受這次的旅行，下一次，我會做好充分的準備，再好好表現一次。
First times abroad, go to the farthest country from Taiwan, United States. It is my first time to
fly, and I was very nervous. When the aircraft lifted off, I felt very complex. This is the first time to
leave this with me 20 years of land, but this sentimental idea did not take me too long, because I
was immediately drawn to the window. From the small window of seeing families warm over, one
was filled with happy light, but less than a few seconds, then is constant severe tinnitus, after
constantly swallowing saliva, is comfortable, and then is up to 15 hours of sleep on the plane,
eating, watching movies.
Reach the United States, although jet lag problem is very painful, but for the first time to
experience the United States environment and people was really exciting, time difference
difficulties were overcome immediately. First day of the trip was to take us around the campus;
IPFW's campus is so big! And we also visited a small garden, the teachers are very enthusiastic,
while walking while explaining plants, but get there feeling a little nervous on the first day, for a
long list of English is really a bit puzzled yet! But I really enjoyed learning in a happy feeling.
The weather in the United States is very comfortable, the most different from Taiwan is
the air is very dry, and Taiwan is very wet. In the United States, the skin easily cracking
and peeling, so I am not used to. But perhaps a sense of dry relationships in the United
States, I would not have been sweating and sweat will make the body wet and sticky, I do not like
this feeling, so the United States the weather is very pleasant.
When I first entered the dormitory was a pleasant surprise! That looks on like a building
Deluxe Villa, and inside of equipment like a big refrigerator, and a oven, and a gas furnace, and a
microwave oven, and washing machine and baking clothing machine and so on, everything are
very great, let people somewhat incredible this just students dormitory. But despite the luxury
kitchen, we use it every day time only breakfast, because most of the time out, and the United
States food, there are some foods such as pizza and Burger, but the teachers are attentive will
prepare Asian meals, can help us better suited to United States life.
After class, school took us to the nearby Mall to buy daily necessities, In the United States, all
goods are twice bigger. And commodity prices are to increase their own taxes to go up, I am not
used to. School of activities apart from out buying of trip outside, students were each other also
will about to playing basketball, and volleyball, and table ball or walking, sometimes also will
about to Club House see film or playing hit ball. I comparison like playing volleyball, because the
volleyball field in campus is beach volleyball, in Taiwan there are few beach volleyball, but later
discovered that the sport of beach volleyball results than on the level of much effect, because the
feet are in the sand to consume a lot of effort to get up, ran only a small section of track was
already panting, but playing with people, even if it is very tired and very happy!
In IPFW a months, we is lucky of participate in has Indiana of big activities, Three River
Festival. Three River Festival held has many of activities and race, we participate in the parade.
The parade is so grand, see a lot of interesting things, I was most impressed by the screen is a lot
of Harley motorcycles made roaring noise in front of me, each Harley is handsome, let me have
all eyes, as the picture makes me feel very shocked! Apart from the parade, we also participate in
has canoe race, study tour mission of students were total into 5 group, I and other two a students
together in a canoe, Canoes have been swinging, very nervous and very stimulating, fearing a
careless of gravity, we are drowning, three people work together to maintain balance and ahead
of the effort, but ultimately no match for healthy/foreign competitors, but that also is a great honor
to get a group "Taiwan groups" being first, but also a reporter to visit us, we all felt so happy! This
is a fantastic experience.
In the the IPFW for a month, we encountered not only Native Americans, as well
as people coming from all directions, Korea, Japan, China, the Philippines, etc. Everyone
has different characteristics, and I think that cultural differences in various counties.
In a activities of a cultural exchange students from various countries, students from various
countries have introduced their own national characteristics, not just a wonderful report I
learned a lot of countries and cultures, but also I feel everyone is proud of their hometown , it is a
great meaningful activities, communicate with others and also to feel the passion of the people
want to make friends, that kind of enthusiasm affect a shy type of Taiwanese culture, I am
very happy to be able to meet people from far and wide.
I did not expect to expect long month journey end so soon, very happy to become a Study
Tour Program, but also very grateful to the Indiana Purdue University so enthusiastic to help
us, to entertain us seriously, there are teachers prepare various teaching
materials to help improve their English ability, even after we returned to Taiwan
to not interrupt the English words through a network so that we learn. We are very lucky to meet
the people in IPFW, this is a period not go back but also can not forget the memory of a
chance to hope again and another walk for IPFW.
This is my first time to study abroad, a little nervous, so I did not do well, but I still enjoyed this
trip, next time, I will be fully prepared to have a good performance.

心得
在一個美麗的早晨六點，一群人站在子宮花園前，再等著一個經歷生
命的機會，等著去到 AIT 那個邪惡帝國國家代表處申請美簽，進去
AIT 所有電子產品都得拿出來統一保管，進去要過安檢門，首先排隊
等源訊，源訊就是看看你的資料蓋章然後給你收據，接下來又要排
隊，等登錄資料，然後又要排隊蓋手印，最後又要排隊等問問題，如
果你是用 B2 簽證的同學請千萬要跟他說上課時數大概 18 小時，不
然會跟我們這團我們三個同學一樣，被一個女華人面試官(他真的有
夠盧的盧)送一張黃單，單子上面明文寫沒學分也跟他說沒學分，他
還一直問有沒有學分，問完問題他就把你的東西收起來，之後你要去
超峰快遞窗口填快遞資料，然後你的一天就在坐車、吃午餐、排隊、
坐車中這麼過去了。
早晨五點多
早晨五點多，被不熟悉的鬧鐘聲吵醒，那是前天為了去美國才買的
SE 的 ARC S，把行李坐了最後的確認，隨即驅車前往高雄國際機場，
車上媽媽重複著說要注意安全、凡事都要小心、不要把同學帶不見
了……等等關心的話，到了機場看到林建良跟邱彥彰兩位大哥，與一
些團員，宣布完一些注意事項，發完生活費 200 每金，拍完出關前的
團體照，就這麼出發了，過海關檢查的時候有些規定不一樣(有些機
場要把所有金屬物品拿出，有些不用)，最好問問看要不要把電線以
及筆電都拿出來，免得影響整團的時間，之後進到候機的地方，逛逛
免稅店，之後搭乘港龍飛香港，在飛機上就是旅途的開始，飛機上就
是盡量拿東西吃東西，過了一個小時後抵達香港機場，看著若大的機
場(至少有六十幾個候機室)，寫著繁體中文，感到格外熟悉，在餐廳
區有個怪現象，最多人的店竟然是那個 MCDONALD，接下來又上國
泰的飛機準備飛往芝加哥，到飛機上的時候，當然要盡你所能的凹東
西，毯子、飲料、杯麵、酒、冰淇淋和撲克牌，若你不想要有時差問
題的話，建議你可以上飛機就一直睡一直睡。那像我就一直看電影，
導致我到美國後的一個禮拜都昏昏欲睡，在飛機上至少遇到 10 個亂
流，最神奇的是跟空姐說中文也通，有時跟他溝通還中英夾雜，抵達
芝加哥噢黑爾機場後，先過海關，問你來幹嘛，要來多久，大概他看
我長得很”老”實就很快放我出關了吧，我們的團員還被問到說有沒有
男朋友。出關拿完行李看看時間已經下午 3 點多，我們的老師 MAG 1
點 45 就來了，再到學校的路上，芝加哥的街景，使我覺得我好像就
置身在電影中，雙層且風格獨特的房子，高聳入雲的 WILLIS
TOWER，電影中的紅綠燈，拖著旅行箱的車車，警匪追逐的警車，
這些景象對我來說好像在複習好多片電影，常常出現的地鐵站，在車
上與 MAG 聊了一下，發現他是個法文老師，在車上發現美國人異常
的守法，就算在偏僻的地方都不會闖紅燈，也了解到美國好像是利用
法家的原理，美國他們不是不會抓而是一抓就罰很重，而且經過平交
道的時候需要停車再開，台灣人大致上是不會鳥這個標誌。到達學校
已經是晚上了，但是在這裡天空還是很亮，這個地方對我來說好新，
若大的校園，豪華的宿舍，高大的美國人，超齡外表。
去到那裡是禮拜六下午，出發時仍是禮拜六，時差總共 12 小時(當地
有夏季時間)隔天早上吃早午餐的時候，我們被帶到一間未來需要相
依為命的餐廳三角公園，他置身於公園中，前面是一個湖，裡面擺著
一堆莫名其妙的裝飾品裡面，長長的餐桌上放著我們要相依為命的菜
單首先我們要點飲料 geterade,mountain dude,ras barry ice tea 有著一堆
我們不知道的飲料，陪伴著我們來的當地學生奈心的跟我們解釋,經
過一番螫疼之後，我們現在又要面對主菜，又經過一番看不懂的菜
名，我們終於點完餐了，在這裡吃飯真的可以吃到飽，一個主菜搭配
三個副菜，飲料又可以一直喝，飯前還有麵包吃，並且在那裏看到了
一些神奇的地方，1.他們吃不下就不會再吃了，就算是剩下一點點他
們也不會勉強自己吃完，也不會打包，他們就把他倒掉 2.當我們在打
包的時候，他們很喜歡使用保麗龍，我發現他們保麗龍的使用率非常
高，飲料用保麗龍裝，食物用保麗龍裝。
吃完早午餐後我們休息一下，便出發去買我們的食物，上午看到的當
地學生便成為我們的司機與地陪，到了 MEIJER 我們便開始採購，雞
蛋、牛奶、培根、吐司這些我們早餐需要的東西、當然還有一些飲料
餅乾之類的當地陪伴的學生都很熱心的陪我們，回答我們問題甚至是
幫我們拿東西。
第一天早晨我們的老師BETSY和MAG都來到我們宿舍大廳準備要帶我
們逛校園，途中發現他們與附近居明合作的小花圃，經過教授的介紹
是美國的許多學校都會有的社區推廣中心，每間學校都會有一個項
目，這間學校是農藝，增加學校與附近居民的互動。逛完校園之我們
去上每一天都有且唯一的課English Speaking,Listening,Presentation
Skills，到週間中午都必須去吃飯的地方超豪華BRIAN’S OFFICE遇見
人超好的RANZY、ASHLEY，晚上RECEPTION上遇見了林建良大哥
所說的台籍院長，並且得知我們在美國的最後一個禮拜成功大學會有
一團來這裡，RECEPTION過後，兩位熱心的同學WILLION和一位中
國人ALLEX帶我們私下出去GLANBROOK(百貨公司)玩，WILLIOM
後來成為我們的好友，接下來我們每天都上著English
Speaking,Listening,Presentation Skills，除了禮拜二的下午去逛
GLENBROOK，禮拜四去一個公園吃很難吃的蔬菜捲聽當地樂團的
音樂，逛美術館不過大家都看不太懂他的展覽，因為與當地歷史相關
性太大了，所以都跑去逛別的歷史文物或逛紀念品館，接下來我們去
三河節遊行，相當於國慶遊行，很多企業、慈善團體、餐廳和俱樂部
都有上去遊行，之後又去附近逛逛擺攤，遇到台灣人在那裏賣字畫，
到垃圾食物山谷買東西吃，第二個禮拜去看三A的棒球比賽，拿了那
邊國民兵發的棒球，發現他們去看棒球並不會像我們一樣，一直專注
於比賽內容，他們把棒球比賽當成一個社交場所，比賽沒很好看，但
是大家都樂在其中，賽後的煙火也很不錯，隔天去當地有名的圖書
館，圖書館還送我們學校書，又到一般人不能去的藏書閣，以及林肯
文物展覽室，還有把書數位化的工作室，禮拜六去騎腳踏車+划船，
飽覽整個社區的美景，雖然我們中間鬧了許多笑話(例如有人摔車
阿、變速壞掉)、划船還最後很多名，但是我們有上報喔，一整天都
超好玩的，我們也有去當地的ZOO，雖然小小一個可是甚麼東西都有
喔，纜車、動物、知識應有盡有，又去看電影，因為沒有字幕所以看
不太懂，就是那個蝙蝠俠。我們還有去超豪華法院參觀，他每個廳都
有特別的主題喔。當地電視台，超大方給我們參觀，讓我們大開眼界
呢。
最精彩的一天就是我們自費去芝加哥，我們看了博物館，去千禧公
園，與喬丹的雕像拍照，中國城、海軍港、威力斯塔、吃超飽PIZZA，
整天都非常嗨，早上7.30出發隔天4點到學校，謝謝當地的大哥黃柏
翰跟另一位大哥的鼎力相助。還有精彩的事PARTY NIGHT跟當地的
海外交流學生打排球，國民外交一下。謝謝RYAN跟GARY。
最後但是是最重要的是，如果你是團長，不要臉一點跟當地的老師、
當地的學生問問看周日可不可以帶你們出去玩、去OUTLET，他們都
會很樂意幫你們，對行程清楚一點，回報表記得準時交阿，小旗子隨
身帶，清楚團員的流向，要熟悉學校以及當地的交通，事先做功課喔，
並且英語能力要不錯喔。如果你團員，不要害羞與老師或當地學生交
談喔。
最後謝謝MAG、BETSY、MIKE、NICK、以及許許多多的同學、長
官、學校給的機會。
A friday twenty people wake up early, standing in front of the garden at
six o’clock waiting for the chance. Waiting for the chance to broad their
vision , change their thought and enhance their experience. They were
ready to face the american and get their visa.In front of the AIT.
Everyone was standing in line waiting to submit their visa. We had to
take our electronic device out to get in AIT. We are pretty sure that we
will get the visa. But we don’t know that we will met a stubborn woman
interviewer. Luckily we still got our visa.
The place we went is Fort Wayne. A beautiful place. It's in the midnorth
of America. We had rid the bicycle beside the river. People in there is
awesome. The man who had an birthday party at Triangle park,
remember me and recognize me at several place. The waiter in triangle
park is nice, too. They remember the drink I like. The boss gave us a cake
with strange grammar Chinese on it for farewell. Though the menu was
little and didn’t change , we still miss the meal in Triangle park. We miss
the bread, dressing, mac&cheese, raspberry ice tea, and the duck in the
lake. Thank you Triangle park’s boss and staff. We miss you a lot.
IPFW is a beautiful school. The campus is beautiful and big. We love to
play table tennis in dorm. We love the volleyball court on sand a lot. We
had a lot memory their. Play volleyball with international student,
student in leadership and the student from NCKU was fun. We miss the
stupid thing we have done by club house. We climb up the roof to get
the volleyball. The police in school ask us” Could you get down safely?”
The dorm in IPFW is luxury. It’s kitchen is complete and cool. You could
cook everything you want in it. Washing machine and dryer are available
free. The bed is high, but it’s pretty comfortable. We had saw a lot firefly
in the campus. It means that the school is clean and unpolluted. The
student there is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and ambitious.
The environment in Fort Wayne is great. Department store, zoo, theater
and restaurant all stays in a little city.
We miss the tour in Chicago, a lot. United center, China town, Willis
tower, Millenium park , Navy pier, Natural museum and the delicious
pizza we miss you.
Three River Festival, children zoo, science museum for children, allen
county public library, court house,PBS39 television station, Parkview
Field, o’hare airport we miss you.
Meg, Morgan, Williom, Gary, Ryan, Allex, Betsy, Cloei, Po, Victor, Brian,
Natasha, Ranzy, Ashley and other smart student in IPFW we miss you a
lot.

美國 印第安納普渡大學
物理治療系一年級 10054050A 林珈毓
這次能夠獲得學海獎學金真的是我的榮幸，學校幫助我完成了本來遙不可及
的夢想，那就是─出國。從小我就十分嚮往出國，我並不是不喜歡自己的國家，
而是單純的想親身體驗外面的世界，隨著現代資訊科技及交通運輸的發達，台灣
已受到許多外來文化的洗禮，從飲食、商品、穿著甚至是許多生活習性皆然。但
台灣畢竟還是台灣，我們有自己的文化特色、生活方式。我為台灣濃濃的人情味
感到驕傲，同時我也想體會旅人身在異鄉走在未知路途所能感受的衝擊與驚嘆。
天亮，就是離家的信號。出國前一晚我真的捨不得睡，只想盡全力把握所剩
不多的與家人相處的時間。隨著時間流逝，踏上旅途的時刻來臨了。由於集合時
間是早上六點，捷運的首班車也來不及送我遠行，媽媽只好辛苦的騎著機車送我
到小港機場，也讓我有時間將媽媽的背影再一次深烙腦海。到了機場我們完成報
到、行李托運、聽注意事項並領取零用金及相關資料後，轉眼就到我們準備出境
的時間了。帶著即將出國的喜悅與離家的淡淡憂傷，我們告別所有前來送機的人
們，迎接一次香港轉機和十多個小時的長途飛行，並勇敢地踏上我們為期一個月
的未知的旅途。
飛機降落後，首先面對的就是美國的安檢及海關，由於團員都是第一次到美
國，我們排隊的時候還不小心排到單人旅客的櫃台，還好地勤人員好心的幫我們
分組排隊，雖然多數團員都順利的通過海關，但還是有人被海關人員諮詢許久，
我們也因此耽誤了一些時間。順利入境也領完行李後，迎接我們的是接下來要陪
伴我們一個月的帶團老師 Meg，她是一位十分親切熱情的大姐姐，我們坐上遊覽
車後，她交給我們一些學校的資料並不斷的找我們聊天，有趣的是她並無法正確
的念出我的中文名字，這件事之後也發生在所有我們認識的外國人身上！
經過大約 4 小時的車程和中途我們花了許多時間點餐的晚餐後，我們從芝加
哥到達了印第安納大學普渡大學的韋恩堡校區，遊覽車緩緩駛進宿舍區的時候，
我們都發出了驚嘆！整個宿舍區就像一幢幢的度假別墅一般矗立在大片的綠色
草皮上，而宿舍內部也真的如同外表一般豪華，我們在當地時間 7/7 的晚上九點
多到達宿舍，令我們驚訝的是天色看起來就像台灣的傍晚時分，我們都感到相當
不適應，我甚至到回台灣前都無法習慣這件事呢！
第一天上課，Meg 和我們的授課老師 Betsy 在宿舍的樓下迎接我們，帶我們
認識這個陌生而美麗的校園，途中我們經過了一處綠意盎然的社區花圃。社區花
圃就是學校免費提供社區居民一個種植作物的小土地，就像房子的後院一般。花
圃的負責人用淺顯的英文為我們介紹了他悉心照料的植物，讓我們學到了許多植
物的相關知識，接著我們繼續參觀整個校區並努力記住各個教學大樓的名稱。
過程中也在校園裡發現許多獨一無二代表學校的長毛象雕像。
當晚，我們參加了歡迎晚會，有許多重要人士來參與這個晚會讓我們有點緊
張，但經過他們的自我介紹後，我們發現他們其實都十分和善，用餐的氣氛也因
此變得十分愉快。我們之中的幾個團員也在會後受到當地學生的邀請瀏覽韋恩堡
市區並一起去逛購物中心，搶先體驗了美國購物中心的龐大規模。
學校幫我們排了內容豐富的行程表，每天上 4 小時的課，課程內容主要為發
音練習、聽力、對話、寫作，上課方式十分彈性、有趣。我們可以在課堂中自由
的用英文表達我們的想法。遊學期間，也有當地的高中生邀請我們參加他們的異
國文化學習成果發表會，高中生們還認為我們年紀比他們小一些呢！當地的大學
生也邀請我們參加領袖訓練營，我們討論了許多方法來達成共同的目標，同時藉
由活動培養團隊的互助合作並在事後檢討是否有更好的做法。我們也參觀了學校
科學大樓的眾多研究室，包含細菌、DNA、動植物、人體研究室等，也體驗了學
生所做的體感電腦動畫程式，操作起來感覺就像是 3D 版的體感遊戲一般。
學校也為我們安排了 game night 與 ice-cream social，game night 顧名思義就
是遊戲夜，我們會與美國學生一起進行遊戲並進行文化交流，團員們在遊戲過程
中學習英文，不僅增強自己的英文能力同時也增強了自信心。而 ice-cream social
則是受邀到一位和善的美國人─Nick 家中分享美味的冰淇淋，並與美國學生們聊
天以增加對彼此的認識並進行文化交流。
一星期中通常會有一、兩次戶外教學，主要行程為參觀當地市區的美術館、
科學中心、百年法院、動物園、收藏林肯總統相關文物的圖書館、非營利性電視
台及郊區的大型戶外購物中心等具代表性的地標。我們也試著在當地電影院觀賞
蝙蝠俠 3，雖然是英文發音且沒有字幕，我們還是看得很開心，我發現其實我的
聽力還不錯呢！Meg 還說她是 soccer mom 開車載著我們團員到處跑。soccer
mom 是指一位媽媽載著小孩和朋友四處參加足球比賽或遊玩。期間，我們體驗
了美國人所熱衷的棒球文化，但可能我們看的是地方性的比賽，大家看球賽的時
候就像參加派對一般輕鬆愜意，但令我感到意外的是球場幾乎是爆滿的，整個球
場人聲鼎沸彷彿台灣的鬧市一般，台灣只有重大比賽才有如此盛況吧。
韋恩堡位於三條河的匯集地，因此當地有一個為期九天的重大節慶那就是─
三河節。而我們遊學期間剛好能夠參加這個熱鬧、瘋狂、充滿趣味的祭典，我們
參加了開幕遊行，發現美國人會提前在街道兩旁準備椅子並擺好位置，輕鬆悠閒
的觀賞遊行表演，遊行過程中有許多代表當地文化、歷史的遊行隊伍，也有許多
是由外來移民所組成的，例如：韓國、泰國等。我們也對自行車道兩旁所觀賞到
的沿途風光感到驚艷無比，之後我們參加了划獨木舟的比賽，結果還因為我們
15 個台灣學生同時參與比賽實在太令人印象深刻而上了地方新聞呢！慶典同時
也包含了創意市集、地板繪畫、垃圾食物區、觀光巴士、國際村等諸多活動可以
參與，提供我們深入了解韋恩堡的好機會。
在韋恩堡的最後一個星期日，我們展開了一場大冒險，在雙方學校允許的情
況下，我們自費前往最靠近韋恩堡的大城市─芝加哥，這趟旅程之所以能成行全
拜團長的社交能力所賜，我們拜託了兩位在當地念書的台灣學長充當導遊、司機
帶我們遊覽芝加哥的美妙風光，我們在當天去了 United Center 也就是芝加哥公
牛隊的球場，可惜的是當天球場並沒有開放給名眾參觀。China Town 體驗美國華
人的生活，並以某間餐廳的港式飲茶為午餐。Millennium Park 觀賞俗稱的 The
Bean 的大型裝置藝術和會定時吐水的牆。在 Navy Pier 體驗港口的浪漫風情。在
The Field Museum 欣賞許多自然歷史文物並參觀了成吉思汗的展覽。最特別的是
站在 Willis Tower 位於 103 樓的全透明強化玻璃觀景台上往地面看或是眺望遠方
時，總令人忍不住發出一聲讚嘆，芝加哥的每個角落果真都有它不同的美好風
情。晚餐我們吃了芝加哥非常有名的 Giordano's Pizzeria 的 Stuffed pizza，因為是
手工現做現烤，所以等待時間比較長。吃完後我們漫步在充滿藝術氣息的街道
上，享受這個大城市所散發的人文氣息。
在韋恩堡的最後一晚，我們應 Betsy 的邀請在送別餐會上為我們在美國認識
的所有人進行了一場演講。首先是為他們簡短的介紹台灣的位置、地形、氣候、
主要景點等。再來則是對我們停留期間進行的所有活動及地點以我們的想法進行
解說。也有團員是以比較台灣與美國社交方式的差異為題教導美國朋友們玩些小
遊戲。而我們則以教導他們學習簡單的中文詞句為結尾，例如：請、謝謝、對不
起或是我想你、我愛你等。同時，問路的英文也是很重要，否則可能很容易就迷
路了。我們也在餐會過程中領取了我們的研習證明和學校送的徽章。最後，整個
演講就在有些歡樂也有些感傷的氣氛下結束了，在餐會結束後我們抓緊最後的時
間與他們合影並互祝對方在未來的某一天還能再度相遇，之後大家也都依依不捨
的與美國朋友們道別，準備收拾行李踏上歸巢的航班，回到大家久違的家鄉了。
看著沿路的風景不斷變換，我們在前往芝加哥機場的路上開始回想這段時間
我們在美國所有開心的、難過的事情，努力的把他們深烙在腦海中，希望隨著時
間流逝，這段時間的經歷還能夠常存心底，當我們在未來的某個時刻回想起 2012
年的暑假，我們將會記得我們 15 人曾一起擁有過這麼特別、難忘的一趟旅程。
English Report
Indiana University Purdue University at Fort Wayne, IPFW
Able to get the scholarship is really my honor. It’s very surprising that school
to help me complete my dream, that is - to go abroad. I’m very much longing to
go abroad since I was little. However it doesn’t mean that I dislike my own
country, but simply want to experience the outside world. Developed with
modern information technology and transportation, Taiwan has received many
foreign cultures baptism from the diet, commodities, dressed alike even many
living habits. However, Taiwan is, after all, Taiwan, we have our own cultural
characteristics, lifestyle. I'm proud of Taiwan's deep sense of human touch, but
at the same time I would also like the personal experience of trip in a foreign
land to go. It will be really excited to me.
Dawn, the signal is away from home. On the night before abroad I really do
not want to sleep. All I want to do is just make every effort to grasp the rest of
my time spending with my families. With the passage of time, the journey time
has come. Since the gather time is six o'clock in the morning, the first shuttle of
MRT is still too late to send me to the Airport; my mother had to ride on
motorcycle to send me to the Kaohsiung International Airport. Also give me
some time to memorize my mother’s back again in mind. Gone on to the time
we are ready to exit to the airport, we completed report baggage, listen Note,
receive a petty cash and related information. With the joy of going abroad and
a touch of sadness leaving home, we bid farewell to all the people come to see
off, greet once the transfer of Hong Kong and more than a dozen hours long
flight, and courage to embark on our month with the unknown journey.
After the plane landed, we first face the U.S. security and Customs.
Because the members were all on their first trip to the United States, we line up
in the wrong counter. Fortunately ground staff kindly helped us packet queuing.
Although most members are smoothly through the customs, there were still
some members being consulted for a long time by the officers. We therefore
delayed some time. After receiving the baggage and smoothly entry, who came
to meet us is called Meg. She would be our tour group teacher for the next
month. She is a very friendly and enthusiastic big sister, she handed over
some information of IPFW, we boarded a tour bus and continue to find our chat
that is really interesting with her. We found that she is not able to correctly
pronounce my Chinese name, it also occurs in all the foreigners who we know!
After about four hours driving and ordering dinner, we arrived at Indiana
University Purdue University Fort Wayne campus from Chicago. When the tour
bus pulled into the living quarters of the time, we have issued a marvel! The
entire dormitory area is like the blocks of the resort villa general stands in large
tracts of green turf. What’s better is the dormitory internal really like the general
appearance of luxury, we reach the quarters in local time, 7/7, nine at night,
surprised the sky looks like Taiwan evening, we felt quite inadaptable. Even at
the time to return to Taiwan, I still could not get used to it!
On the first day of class, Meg and Betsy, our teacher of learning English,
waited downstairs to greet us. They took us on a tour of knowing this beautiful
campus. On the way to campus, we have gone through a lush green
community flower garden. The school provided free flowerbeds for community
residents to plant a crop of small land, like the backyard of the house in
general. The person in charge of the flower garden introduce the plant to us in
simple English, we learned the knowledge of many plants, then we continue to
visit the entire campus and try to remember the name of the teaching building.
During the process, we also found there are many unique Mammoth statue in
the campus which on behalf of the school.
On the same day, we attended a welcome dinner, there are many important
people to participate in the evening so we were a little nervous, but after they
introduce themselves, we find that they are very friendly. The atmosphere is
very pleasant. There are several members of us also be invited by local
students browse downtown Fort Wayne and go shopping in the shopping mall.
It’s the first time to experience the sheer size of the Mall of America.
The school row content rich schedule for us. Daily on the 4-hour lessons, we
practice pronunciation, listening, dialogue, writing as we were in class. Class is
very elastic and interesting. Freedom in the classroom, we can express our
own ideas in English. There is a day that local high school students invited us
to participate in their exotic culture of learning and the outcomes published
during the study tour. The high school students think that we are younger than
them. And the IPFW students also invited us to participate in leadership
training camp, we discussed a number of ways to reach a common goal, and
at the same time by mutual cooperation activities to develop team and in
hindsight whether there is a better approach. We also visited the school many
Laboratory Sciences Building, contains bacteria, DNA, animals, plants, the
human body Laboratory, also experience the students made somatosensory
computer animation program, operating up feeling like a 3D version of the
somatosensory game in general.
School’s also arrange for our game night and ice-cream social, game night,
as the name suggests, is the night of the game we all being together with
American students for the game and for cultural exchange, members in the
course of the game, learning English, not only to enhance their English skills
and at the same time enhanced self-confidence. The ice-cream social is
invited to a kind of American homes ─ Nick’s lovely home. We share delicious
ice cream and chat with American students in order to increase mutual
understanding and cultural exchanges.
There will be twice a week that we have outdoor teaching, travel to visit the
local urban art museum, science center, Centennial Court, Zoo, the Favorite
President Lincoln heritage library, non-profit television and the suburbs of large
outdoor shopping center and other representative of the landmarks. We also
tried at the local movie theater to watch Batman 3. Although it is all
pronunciation in English and no subtitles, we still very enjoy the film. And I find
out that my hearing is pretty good, too. Meg said she is a soccer mom that
carrying our members everywhere. The soccer mom is a mother around
carrying children and other kids to participate in a football game or play. During
period, we experience the culture of Americans favorite baseball. We may just
watch the local game, when we watch the game it is like partygoers generally
relaxing, but I am surprised that the stadium is almost full the entire Stadium
voices as if all the busy streets of Taiwan, Taiwan's only major competition is
only so grand it.
Fort Wayne is located in a collection of three rivers, where there was a
period of nine days festivals ─ Three Rivers Festival. During the study tour and
we just be able to participate in this lively, crazy, fun-filled festival. We took part
in the opening parade, found that Americans will advance in the streets on both
sides and prepare chair and position it relaxing to watch the parade procession.
There are many delegates that the parade of local culture, history, and many
immigrants, for example: South Korea, Thailand. The scenery along the way
we have bike lanes on both sides of the watch to feel amazing. We participated
in a canoeing competition and because we have 15 students involved in the
game at the same time which is too impressive. We results in putting on the
local news! The celebration also includes creative market, floor painting, junk
food area, bus tours, International Village and many other activities you can
participate in, and provide our in-depth understanding of a good opportunity in
Fort Wayne.
In Fort Wayne last Sunday, we started a big adventure, in the case of the
school allows, at our own expense to the closest to the Fort Wayne
metropolitan ─ Chicago. The trip has been able to make the trip all thanks to
the leader of us, he has the social capabilities. We please the two Taiwanese
student studying at a local seniors to act as tour guide and driver took us on a
tour of the wonderful scenery of Chicago. We went to the United Center on that
day, and it is the Chicago Bulls stadium. Although it is a pity that the day of the
stadium isn’t open to all the visitors. We went to China Town to experience the
life of the Chinese in the U.S., and Hong Kong-style tea in a restaurant for

visited the Genghis Khan exhibition at The Field Museum. The most special

style. Stuffed pizza, we eat very the famous Chicago Giordano's Pizzeria
manually to do now is bake, so the waiting time is long. After eating, we
strolled the streets full of art, to enjoy the cultural atmosphere of the big cities
are distributing.
Last night in Fort Wayne, in the farewell luncheon invitation of Betsy's for all
the people we know in the United States in a speech. The first is a brief
introduction to Taiwan's location, topography, climate, major attractions for
them. And all activities and locations during our stay, our thoughts commentary.
Members is based on comparing the differences in the way of Taiwan and the
U.S. social questions teach American friends to play some small games. We
teach by learning simple Chinese words and phrases to the end, such as:
please, thank you, I'm sorry, I think you and I love you. The same time, to ask
the way English is very important, otherwise, might be very easy to get lost.
We also receive our study proved and the school to send badges dinners
process. Finally, the entire speech in some joy, some sentimental atmosphere
of the end of the dinner after we pay close attention to the last time a group
photo with them and wish each other can meet again someday. Everyone is
ready to pack to set foot on the homing flights back to everyone returning to
hometown.
Watching the scenery along the way is constantly changing, we began to
think about the time we are in the United States on the way to Chicago airport.
I hope with the passage of time, this time the experience can always keep in
the bottom of my memory, when we recall the summer of 2012 at some point in
the future, we will remember the 15 people together have such a special and
memorable trip.
學海獎助學金，能得到此獎學金，我真的覺得自己好幸運、好棒，想到未來
是去美國，內心那份悸動，忍不住湧了出來，濕了臉頰也濕透了衣襟。
第一次在高雄機場登機，第一次坐長途飛機，上飛機的心情如失控的鄉巴佬，
只差沒有尖叫，飛機上的一切樣樣都是驚奇，美麗的空服員的服務、倚靠著小小
的窗戶，眼睜睜的看著我們離開地球表面，沒多久來了可愛的飛機餐，他真的只
是可愛，而並沒有想想中的美味，目的是與台灣相距十二個小時的地方，為了配
合機上的時差調整，整路上以電影、遊戲和食物度過。
下了飛機，也卸下了大部分內心的擔憂，一股腦兒的興奮好想好想一次爆發，
「美國，我來了！」接下來一路上一直睡，第一次感受到美國的地勢多麼的大，
四個小時離開芝加哥到了印第安那大學普渡大學偉恩堡分校，來到了以前只能從
明信片裡看到的場景，現在都一一放在我的眼前，打開宿舍門的那一天，我記得
手裡一直拖著行李一直喊著「哇！哇！哇！」，因為真的非常的豪華，每一個小
房間都可以媲美飯店，從超大又軟的床，簡單俐落的窗戶和書桌，到乾淨明亮的
浴室，說到廚房一樣都不少，爐子、烤箱、微波爐，洗衣機、烘衣機都有，看到
這些機器，覺得美國真是個非常人性化的國家，樣樣都有，都不需要人力的浪費。
帶我們的老師Meg人非常的親切也很好相處，在這幾天下來Meg式幽默讓這
趟遊學更加的有趣，教我們英文的老師Betsy是一位非常盡責的老師，他很努力
想盡辦法的教會我們英文，最重要的是Betsy一直鼓勵我們講英文，我們從不敢
講到非常敢講，而讓英文的「聽、說」大躍進了不少，也是這趟旅途最彌足珍貴
的地方。偉恩堡這個地方吉祥物是「大象」，這裡到處都有大象，而每一隻都有
牠的特色，而這裡的民族都非常的熱情，即使我們講英文講得很慢，他都會很有
耐心聽，即使英文講得不是很好，他們都會一直說：「沒關係，沒關係，你會越
來越進步！」身於異地的我們只要得到一點點的幫助，就會多一份暖心，我很高
興我們認識了William、Alex、Ryan、Gary、Po和Victor，在美國的這一個月，讓
每一天都很豐富、都很開心，去賣場大採購也是個心體驗，第一次自己挑蔬果，
第一次暢所欲為不受限制的買自己想吃的東西，學會比價和換算，美國的蔬果都
好大好漂亮，只可惜吃起來都沒有台灣的美味，我們最常去downtown從一剛開
始對街頭上的一切感到好奇，到會跟外國人打招呼，我們以「How are you?」問
候了一整條街，我覺得好新奇，大家都非常的熱情，都不會吝嗇的不理我們，最
常做的交通工具──巴士，學校非常的大方，幫我們準備了月票，好讓我們這個
月可以無限地搭巴士出去玩，在印第安那偉恩堡那有個著名的慶典Three River
Festival在downtown舉辦，內容非常的豐富，從開頭的遊行就非常的有看頭，三
十幾台的名車一同駛前，非常的壯觀，我們還參加了划獨木舟的項目，雖然我們
並沒有得名，但是我們是台灣隊的第一名，令人興奮的是我們還上了報紙，是多
麼的榮幸，我們還跟這幾位美國朋友出去玩保齡球、看電影、去outlet和玩碰碰
車，第一次看到學齡小朋友在玩保齡球，第一次看沒有字幕的電影──蝙蝠俠，
第一次在coach和gap挑很多包包和衣服，第一次玩場地超小的賽車場，我們和成
大生交流，互相分享自己的行程，在異地遇到台灣人，感觸更是格外的深，也很
久沒有無拘束的講中文，大家人都非常的親切，我們也一起在校園切磋沙灘排球，
第一次在很難移動的沙灘上打排球，打到螢火蟲從草地的一端慢慢地散出來，一
點一點的小光芒，多麼的爛漫，多麼特別的經驗阿！在美國晚上九點多天還是很
亮，是很特別的現象，我們還三五好友在草坪上躺著，望著遠方、看著星星，在
無光害的夜晚，夜晚格外的有氣氛，在月圓時，在草坪上放眼望去最亮的星星就
是月娘，又圓又大，似乎比台灣的月亮更大了不少。非常感謝Po和Victor帶我們
去芝加哥玩，早起狂奔四小時到芝加哥，特色就是有好多好美麗的建築，每一棟
外觀看起來都好金碧輝煌，好美好興奮，到NBA公牛隊的主場，向門口的飛
人 Michael Jordan致敬，也到中國城吃飯，但是這幾天下來，在美國真的很常吃
到中國菜，去海軍港看看美麗的五大湖區，天上的海鷗飛呀飛，港口的味道鹹鹹
的，還去skydeck去參觀高達一零三層樓的透明櫥窗，站在上面好緊張卻是很興
奮，去了一趟芝加哥唯一一點飲恨的就是沒有逛街，不過我們最後收場是去一間
很有名的pizza店吃，每一塊都料多餡飽，每一口都無不是滋味，非常的幸福，回
家又過四個小時，是史上聊天聊最久也最晚的一天，我只能說到芝加哥是一件多
麼幸運的事，每個地方都很好玩，建築物也都超漂亮！
這一趟旅程，既驚奇又好玩，回到台灣後也對美國有無比的懷念，很開心有
義守大學的學海獎助學金可以讓我出國，真的非常的感恩，這一團每個人都很好
相處，也很高興能認識他們，如果有一天，我們在相約再去美國一次吧！
First day, I got up pretty early to prepare not only the luggage but also say
goodbye to my family and closely friends. I brought an appreciative, hesitate and even
nervous emotions to the Kaohsiung International Airport because I had not taken a
long distance plain and went to the United States was my first experience. In there, we
borrowed the little cars to carry our luggage and met each other students in the middle
of center and the exciting and joyful atmosphere flied in our group! After taking the
pictures with the flag which standing for the scholarship, we walked over to the gate
and with the steps of happy and light melody.
When I land on Chicago, the same feeling was emerging and scattering all of
the ground. Without any pressure and any burden, I can do everything that I see from
the Hollywood’s movies, such as wear the sun glasses to enjoy the sunny pouring the
gold sand on my skin and greeting all people on the streets to show my enthusiasm
and my happiness to them. Although my English is not very well and always wait a
big time to build the sentences by my brain, the Americans still use pretty good
patience and full of encouragement to help and face having embarrassed face on me. I
think I am the most fortunate guy in the world because of meeting all nice and sweet
people in Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne, the best college in my
heart.
Meg, the smart, beautiful and humor teacher, is the first we should encounter
American. She is not only the good leader but also a great friend who should we
deserve to acquaint women. We have a lot of joy and weave the wonderful memories
belongs to us together during the four weeks. My English teacher, Betsy, she use the
different ways from Taiwan to teach us English, including increase our vocabularies
and regulate our pronunciation. Her active ways make my English growing and
progressing quickly and successfully. Under the right language environment to learn
that language not only need a huge brave to talk to the foreigners but need to hold and
treasure all the practicing time to practice. The speaking ability will become better
and better and maybe you will shock by your fluent conversations one day. That is my
real experience in the united states. The genius guys, William and Gary, companied us
to visit the whole Fort Wayne and gave us rides when they have the time to shop and
see the baseball game. There is a stroke which I like the most and it can cost all of
afternoon time, but we always do not have enough time in there, the big mall. Betsy
and the student leader, Chloe bring us to the downtown many times to introduce the
artistic buildings and let us visit and observe the famous celebration, three river
festival, the long and spectacular parade make my heart astonished deeply. The
scenery of thirty Harley-Davidsons were moving slowly and uttering loudly in front
of my eyes. I couldn’t believe that I see many fancy motorcycles riding on road at the
same time! The shock and loud sound made me astonished. We also shacked the little
united states’ flags to celebrate with the local residents and sank in the fervent and
screaming air together. I enjoyed at that moment very much until now. I always recall
them very often. That bustling with noise painting still rose up my heart these days,
too. The biggest library, Allen County Public Library, has many collection of books in
there. It uses different range of knowledge to separate them and has many staffs to
sort out the books and guide the inhabitants to research the books they want. Because
of we are a special group, the announcer lead us to the place which other people don’t
permit to go in. There are many old and yellowing books and scripts on the thousands
of bookcase. Then we walk downstairs and the light of deep yellow cover to the
whole room. All things about the America president, Abraham Lincoln, including the
childhood pictures, the letters he wrote personally, the bill’s evolution, the chair
which the president was shot in the theater and some statue that commemorate how
great the president in the America history. Other announcer is responsible for
introducing Abraham Lincoln president take a picture of supernatural about his wife
to tell us this is a sweet heart picture not a horrible picture and share some amazing
stories with us.
At the last week, our good friends, Po and Victor, and also come from Taiwan,
brought us to the big city, Chicago. We were very exciting and glad thought we had
what a huge travel fee! About 4 hours driving, we chatted, shared the things which
how Taiwan developing in this years and listened to “the Chinese songs”. In the
United States, we did not heard to any Chinese songs until that day we took a drive by
Po. Our homesick were exploding and we starting to discuss the Chinese songs’ style
in these days. We arrived at first tourist place, the united center, the super start,
Michael Jordan shined in his NBA’s live. To try the fly man’s symbol motion, we
jump up and take the pictures in those moments. Then we visited China Town and
finished the lunch in there. But I can’t understand why everything in the USA is too
expensive to buy. We went to the harbor and appreciated the beautiful and special
scenery which is mixing the gold and large buildings and mild and salty sea. There
were many seagulls flying in the free and sunny sky and many entertainers blowing
up lot of balloons to give the cute and well-behaved children on the street. They
showed out their enthusiasm to us, too. And last we went to the tallest building in the
United States which is called Skydeck. We stood out the transparent windows and see
all the landscape of Chicago and bought many souvenirs back to Taiwan. On the
103th floor, I did not feel any horror instead of I still kept enjoying in there. After
visited the tallest building, we walked for a long distance to a famous pizza store to
eat dinner! The beautiful and full like hamburgers pizzas were carried on the tables.
We ate them and watched the London 2012 Olympics on the television. Everyone in
there very focused on the television deeply and shouted and laughed loudly. I really
like that atmosphere very much because that image is a symbol of consociation about
their nation! Because of waiting for the pizzas, we cost all of time on it and go back
so late. Po and I had the funny dialogues. We shared some mischief which we had
done when we are children and talked about a kind of man which be called “Otaku”.
The otaku just need some comics and a computer. And they will make them stay at
home without go outside. Finally, we arrived at our building J safely, our dorm,
everybody were too tired and sleepy to talk any words. My friends and I chose a day
to see the fire flies after finishing the small restaurant, Triangle Park. We stood on the
cool and slight sands and researched the tiny spots to shine in the beautiful and
romantic night. And we also chose a night to see the stars. Many little and bright
stones were moving quickly in the quiet and peace night. Especially, the yellow and
circle shape of moon in the United States is bigger than in Taiwan.
I am very glad to get the scholarship and get a chance to let me make many
good friends in the United States and open my eye in my mind again! Taking a long
distance plain is first experience for me. To me, the turbulence just such like a child
had a plan to fool us. We ate the meal with the shaking plain. Full of food in the
stomach was making me want to throw up all of the dinner. Thanks for the ISU
University sets the scholarship to let us earn to. I hope I can earn more scholarships
from my college in the future. Now, I have a beautiful goal which is buying a
professional camera to take more and more amazing pictures all over the world. And I
will make these wonderful pictures to post cards and sand back to my lovely friends at
the opposite of the earth from Taiwan one day.
When I back to Taiwan, I still miss my friendly and nice guys in the United
States. I always recall my memory from watching the interesting and great pictures
from my cell phone, computer and i-pod. I still open the old and rusty drawer to touch
and think about all of the stories in this study tour. Fortunately, we have a social
website which is called Facebook to let us keep in touch with each other.
七月七號，早上五點，我坐上車，帶著一顆期待與雀躍的心，搭車前往小港
機場。等到大家都到齊了以後，行李託運、行前說明、發伙食費，最後由一個行
前大合照結束，在我們拍照入鏡的旗子上大大寫著「義守大學 學海獎學金 海
外研習團」，每讀一次，心臟就噗通的多跳一下，當時快樂的心情，實在無法言
喻。
台灣飛香港兩小時，香港飛芝加哥十四小時，在加上時差，抵達芝加哥時已
經是美國下午一點。出了機場，拿著寫了ｉｓｕ紙條並以笑容迎接我們的是ＩＰ
ＦＷ學校裡的老師Ｍｅｇ，雖然在辦美國簽證及出入境檢查時已經是使用英語交
談，但是在與在地人使用英語問候、閒聊，是一件多麼令人興奮的事。事不宜遲，
大家整裝完畢後，馬上搭乘前往ＩＰＦＷ的巴士，向學校的所在地──瑋恩堡市
出發。雖然在飛機上已經有了足夠的休息時間，但事實在不能用太舒服的姿勢休
息，又有賴於時差的影響，在上巴士後，聽了Ｍｅｇ的問候，並接下有關美國及
ＩＰＦＷ的簡介後，大夥就全都夢周公去了。第一次覺得美國腹地何其廣大是在
飛機上的時候，明明已經進入陸地了，還飛了很長一段時間才降落；再經由機場
花幾小時巴士的時間到目的地；中間休息讓我們下車吃晚餐，迎面而來的事一間
速食店，在櫃檯點餐時，我點了一個套餐，然後我完全聽不懂電原說了什麼，好
像不小心提出了很「奧客」的服務，只聽Ｍｅｇ說了一句：我不認為他們可以。
餐點是拿到號碼牌後就坐，再經由服務生看號碼牌送到你面前，飲料是給空杯
子，要自己去飲料機裝，能不能續杯就不知道了；花了近七塊美金，近乎兩百四
十元點來的餐點，是一杯飲料，大小雞腿（我還以為美國不吃有形肌肉）後一籃
子的波浪型薯條，第一印象是──好貴！就算沒加稅也要將近台幣一百八十，在
台灣都可以上比較好的餐廳了，聽Ｍｅｇ說，這家速食店相較於麥當勞高級，東
西比較好吃，而且服務較好。看了一下時中發現了兩個奇怪的地方，第一個是我
們要去的目的地和台灣時差十二小時，這裏卻差了十三小時。Ｍｅｇ回答說，我
們現在要去的地方和這裡時曲不一樣，又在次讓我見識到美國廣大；第二個疑問
是，已經晚上七點了，外面也太亮了吧，難道是因為比較偏北極，日照時間照常
的原故？相較於台灣食物，美國的口味重很多，太鹹或太甜；飲料和冰淇淋，真
的能用「色彩繽紛」來形容，難道美國人看重外觀勝於健康嗎？大家填飽肚子後，
我們繼續踏上旅程。
詳細到達宿舍的時間我已經忘了，只記得當時又累又睏。地廣人稀的美國，
單單一個學生宿舍區，就已經比燕巢分部加義大醫院還要大了。我們在社交屋裡
認識這次由學將會幫助和領導我們的人，並領取房間鑰使── 一人一副，沒錯，
是一人一副，又是一個驚喜，我們住的學生宿舍，是四人一大間，每人一小間，
每一小間都有獨立衛浴設備，四間小房間再經由一間客廳和廚房相連。有廚房還
不打緊，除了電磁爐，冰箱、烤箱、微波爐、洗碗機一應具全，而且房內還有洗
衣機──和烘乾機。本來認為看過燕巢分部宿舍已經不會在被嚇到的我再次受到
了衝擊，這是一個讓學生何等舒適方便，又能獨立自主的宿舍。
原本想小睡一下的我們，因為時差的影響，醒來後已經是七小時候的事。
開學第一天，我們的老師 Betsy 帶領我們一行人在校園內四處逛逛。美國的
大學，二十四小時對外開放，除了內部的教室一率不上鎖，冷氣也是二十四小時
的，還記得有次晚上九點還聽到大廳中有人再彈鋼琴，證明了這件事。人文館、
自然科學館等大樓，走廊上以櫥窗陳列許多標本、學生作品貨統計資料，部像台
灣大學走廊上只有布告欄和牆壁，表現出十分多元和實際的一面。吃完午餐的三
明治配汽水後，我們開始了我們的第一堂課。想說雖然是小班制，但應該多少有
其他的學生，可是這班就我們出國的遊學團十五人，雖然說沒辦法和更多的外國
學生做交流，但至少如此我們會更敢說、更勇於表達自己。自我介紹並不是和大
家所想像每人站起來以英語說一段，老師要求每人以色筆畫一張四格漫畫，分別
為自己喜歡的食物、國家、消遣娛樂和害怕的東西，十分新鮮，我們也開始了第
一次真正的英語溝通及表達演說，十分令人興奮及愉快。
再來的每天課程的進行方式都不盡相同，有時叫大家朗誦當日新聞；有時播
放沒字幕的影片讓大家看，並問大家關於影片中的問題及單字片語；有時找很多
字音相似的字讓大家玩賓果遊戲，由於字音相近容易聽錯，很多人都喊賓果後發
現自己其實還沒贏；英文問答遊戲是讓大家分組，以自然科學、地理、體育、音
樂四大分類的問題供大家回答，比賽過程中十分有趣刺激。再如此多元的教學方
式中，大家的聽說能力有了大幅的進步。說不定大家單字量其實不差，只是不習
慣和缺乏自信，經過這些課程的洗禮後大家都明顯進步了許多。
課外活動也是這次學海中十分重要的一環，除了幾乎每天都會去的餐廳「三
角公園」
，以及去多國外的超級市場採買外，還有安排許多外國景點觀光的行程。
最大的活動莫過於偉恩堡市的重大慶典「三河節」，觀看遊行、逛美術博物館、
在當地的流動攤販逛街購物、欣賞大家用粉筆在地上做畫、在河邊騎腳踏車及泛
舟比賽、丟水球比賽等等，每一個都是十分充實及愉快的行程及全新的體驗，為
這次的學海之形增加了不少樂趣。除此之外，還有一些學校同仁邀請我們去他家
開宴會，大家一起玩戶外遊戲、一起吃冰淇淋、一起打球，不但增進大家感情還
可以同時訓練英文能力，都是對大家身心有利的活動。除此之外，還有當地動物
園的遊覽，當地圖書館的導覽及解說，和當地學生的交流晚會，棒球比賽的觀賞，
每一項都是十分充實的課外活動行程，大佳君受益良多，也對美國有了除了電視
上和書本上，更進一步的認識。
這次的學海之行，讓我對美國的文化及當地風土民情有了進一步的了解，同
時也增進的英語能力，游其是聽與說兩大部分，現在我可以更有自信的與外國人
主動以英語交談，而且講的更通順，都是這是旅程的收穫，希望還有機會能夠再
次造訪美國，為了看到老師和朋友也好，為了再次享受美國當地不同的文化也
好，如果還有機會，我一定會再次造訪這塊大陸。
July 7, at five o'clock in the morning, I ride to the Kaohsiung International Airport. Until everyone in attendance , we
went on the plane. Taiwan to fly two hours in Hong Kong, Hong Kong to fly fourteen hours to Chicago, plus the time
difference, when we arrived at Chicago, the United States has already 1 p.m . After we went out of the airport,
Meg ,who is the teacher of the IPFW , holding a paper which wrote “isu” , greeting us with smile . After we do a U.S.
visa and immigration clearance, we had already do english conversation, but this was the first time we greeting people
in English to people in places , so as chatting, which make me very exciting . Without further ado, we take the bus to
IPFW immediately, which located in Wei En Fort city of departure. Thought we had already have enough time to rest
on the aircraft, but it can’t be too comfortable posture to rest, but also depends on the effects of jet lag on the bus,
listening to Meg's greetings and to take over the U.S. and IPFW .About after, everyone had all fall asleep . The first
time we feel the USA is a very big place is on the aircraft, obviously has to enter the land, but it fly for a long period of
time before landing; spend a few hours of bus time through the airport to the destination; then we take a break , they
let us get off the bus to eat Dinner, there has a fast food restaurant, when I was order a meal, I ordered a package,
then I completely do not understand the word of the original that does not seem a very "Austrian passenger service
carefully just listen to Meg said simply: I do not think they can do it . Meals sit to get the number plate, and then via the
waiter to see the number plate to the front of you, for the drink, they gane us a empty cup to full our own drink by the
machine, but I don’t know whether I can refill it or not; spent nearly seven dollars almost two hundred forty NT dollor on
meal, chicken (I also think that the United States do not eat the meat that you can see that animal it is) after a basket
of french-fries, the first impression ─ ─ how expensive! Even if no tax increases but also nearly NT $ 180, in Taiwan
can be more than good restaurant, listen Meg said, this fast food restaurant compared to McDonald's senior,
something more delicious, and the service is good than the front one. Looked when found two strange place, first we
go to the destination and twelve hours time difference, here is thirteen hours difference. Meg replied, the place where
we are now going soon is not the same, and it make me an insight into the American general also; second question,

exigencies? Compared to food, American tastes much heavier, too salty or too sweet; drinks and ice cream, really can
be described as "colorful" . Do Americans value the appearance is better than health? After all the people fill their
stomachs, we continue on a journey.
I had forgotten detail to reach the quarters , for the time just felt very tired and sleepy. Sparsely populated area of the
United States, alone in a student dormitory area, it is even larger and higher than Yanchao segment plus the hospital.
Our understanding in social house will help this time by the school and the leadership of our people, and receive a
room key ─ ─ , yes, each person has one, which made us very surprise, we live in student dormitories , each of our
person with a small room, each small room has a bathroom, four small rooms and then connected with a living room
and kitchen. Kitchen is very convenient to us, in addition to the electric stove, refrigerator, oven, microwave,
dishwasher, and the room there is a washing machine ─ ─ and a dryer. Originally seen Yanchao segment dormitory
has not scared I once again, this is a place let the students vert comfortable and convenient, but also autonomous
quarters.
We had wanted to take a nap, because of the effects of jet lag, it has already seven hours through after we go to bed .
The first day of school, our teacher Betsy led us walk and take a look around the campus. University of the United
States, they do not lock on the door for twenty-four hours, beside the classroom inside , air-conditioning is also open
for 24-hour, also remember that there are times at nine p.m., I heard someone playing the piano, the thing which prove
it . Humanities Building, the Museum of Natural Science Building, which the windows on the corridor display many
specimens, cargo statistics of student work, not the same as the National Taiwan University you can only see bulletin
boards and walls, showing very diverse and practical . We eat sandwiches for lunch with soft drinks, then we began
our first lesson. I think that in the USA, it is small class sizes, but it should be the number of other students, but this
class we study tours abroad fifteen, although not more foreign students to do the exchange, but at least so we will be
more dare say English, and the courage to express ourselves. First, we had to introduce ourselves, but tha way is not
the same as everyone’s image ,per person and everyone thought it stood up and introduce themselves in English,, the
teacher asked each person to a four-frame comic color strokes, respectively, for their favorite food, country,
entertainment and the things we afraid, it’s very fresh to us, We also started the first real English communication and
expression of speech, it was very exciting and enjoyable.
The courses every day was vary, sometimes called recite the news of the day; sometimes play movie no subtitles to
everyone, and asked if we find if there has problems and whether there has any word phrase in the moviethat we do
not understand ; put many similar pronunciation of the word to let everyone play bingo game, which let us misheard
easy, because the pronunciation was similar, a lot of people are calling bingo, but they have not won any more ; quiz
in English so that everyone grouped four to natural science, geography, sports, music classification for your answer, it
was a very fun and exciting race. Re so diverse teaching methods, everyone's listening and speaking ability has made
everyone very obvious substantial progress. Thought everyone’s the Ministry of the word is actually not bad, just not
used to, and lack of self-confidence, and after these courses baptism everyone obviously progress a lot.
Extra-curricular activities are also one of the important part in our trip, in addition to the restaurant almost we went
every day , the "Triangle Park", as well as go to foreign supermarkets, arrange the many foreign sightseeing trip. The
biggest activities of the "Three Rivers Festival" Wayne Fort major celebrations in the city, to watch the parade, visiting
the Museum of Fine Arts, shopping in the local mobile vendors, appreciate everyone to do the painting with chalk on
the ground, biking and boating race in the river, throw water polo, each of which is a very fulfilling and enjoyable trip
and a new experience for this trip and increase a lot of fun. In addition, there are some school colleagues invited us to
his house banquet together playing outdoor games, eating ice cream together, play together, not only to enhance
everyone feelings but also can train our English ability, are beneficial to all physical and mental activity . In addition,
there is a tour of the local zoo, the local library navigation and commentary, and a local student exchange party,
baseball game viewing, each of which is very fulfilling extracurricular activities stroke, large Jiajun benefit Liang and
more, and also further understanding the United States have in addition to television and books.
For this trip, I have a better understanding of American culture and local customs , and also to improve the English
proficiency listening and speaking, now I can be more confident with foreign initiative to speak English, and speak
more fluent, this is the harvest of the journey, I hope to have the opportunity to be able to visit the United States again,
to see teachers and friends or even enjoy the different cultures of the United States. If I have the opportunity, I will visit
the continent again.
這一次出國遊學是我第一次出國，很開心第一次出國就能到美國的印地安
納普渡大學如此優秀的學校，從申請到出發前已經期待了好幾個月，好期待看看
美國的風景、品嚐美國的美食，但是又有些擔心自己是否能適應國外的生活，所
以心情有些緊張還好我有先向到過美國的朋友們和學長姐詢問過，了解美國的風
俗民情，初步的了解後，我做好了充足的準備，這更讓我期待遊學的到來了！
第一天很早就到機場了，因為要檢查行李和領機票，上飛機好興奮喔！但
是我的座位是在中間，看不到風景，所以我和別人交換了靠窗的座位。起飛的時
候，有一段很明顯的爬升，整個機倉都在震動，很刺激又很緊張，升上空的時候，
地面的建築物越來越小，這時候我才真正感覺到，我要離開住了二十年的台灣
了；看著熟悉的街景漸漸縮小，如小人國一般，但再過了一下子就小到看不到了！
接著就開始享用飛機餐，可以在飛機上吃東西好有趣，但不知道是不是因為不習
慣飛機餐的口味，味道似乎沒有想像中的美味，有一點點失望，但還是很開心吃
到了期待很久的飛機餐，吃完了飛機上提供的餐點，過了大概一個半小時就到香
港了。
在香港機場裡我和同學們很興奮的走來走去，不停的逛免稅商店，這是我
第一次趟上國外的土地!看到了好多外國人，不過大部分都還是東方人所以沒那
麼緊張，過了一個多小時就要準備登機了，在登機前的檢查，前面的一位小朋友
不停的灌可口可樂，我有點疑惑，因為他讓後面的人都停下來等他登機後才能登
機，但幸好工作人員還是讓我們先豋機了，我才想到飛機上不能帶液體的物品，
頓時覺得有點好笑還有一點點同情。
上了飛往美國的飛機，過了幾個小時，才發現以前為甚麼大家都在抱怨經
濟艙很不舒服，也才發現原來十三個小時那麼漫長，只好看著飛機上提供的電
影，和玩玩小遊戲或聽歌，有點開心的是，看到了一直想看卻因為不想花錢去看
而錯過的電影；大概過了 7 個小時左右，我往窗外一看，原本的美景都被黑夜所
遮掩，就像穿了一襲黑色的禮服，真的甚麼都看不到，只看得到月亮，但過了大
約半小時，我和同學們才發現那是機翼上的小燈，因為月亮一直在同一個角度，
害我被取笑了一下，就在興奮和疲憊交戰之餘，我們在飛機上已經過了九個小
時，突然，機身劇烈的晃動，上下左右不停的晃，這真的是有史以來最緊張的一
刻，飛機遇到了亂流，這時在有些尖叫聲伴隨的情況下，我安慰自己:這只是在
坐火車搖來搖去而已。不知道是我很好騙還是怎樣，緊張的心情頓時消失了一
半，過了約五分鐘，亂流才平息下來。
就在到美國的一小時前，窗外的景色是一片大陸，一望無際的大陸，讓我
大開眼界，因為以往都是看到一望無際的海洋。
終於，到了芝加哥機場!看到了好多外國人，但是在那裡，我才是外國人。
出境前好緊張，這是我第一次跟外國人交談，不過還是順利的過關，在拿了行李
之後，我們找到了迎接的老師，就在一連串雞同鴨講的對話下，我們上了載我們
到普渡大學的公車，過了四個小時，一路上看到了陌生的街景，陌生的景色，陌
生的人們，終於到了普渡大學。
我們住進了普渡大學的學生宿舍，大概第二天就已經可以習慣外國人講的
英文；話說那裡的宿舍，那對我們來說真的是太豪華了，有自己的房間，有廚房
可以每天煮東西吃，還有多種球類的球場，到現在還是忘不了那豪華的宿舍。
在那邊的一個月，老師們定時帶我們到商場採購我們需要的食材，每個假
日都有很好玩的活動，其中印象最深刻的就是當地的節慶:三江節；有大遊行、
大園遊會，甚麼都很大型，但最有趣的是，我們參加了當地的划船比賽，和很多
外國人一起競賽，雖然比賽開始大概五分鐘就只看到台灣的學生群奮力的滑水，
外國人的小船都已經不知道滑到哪裡了，但還是好有趣，這是人生中第一次划船!
就在比賽結束上岸的同時，有記者來訪問我們，不知道是不是因為我們是台灣學
生中第一個完成比賽的小組，後來竟然上了當地的新聞，還提到了我的小組成員
每個人的名字，我們都為此感到很開心。
在離開美國的前一天，我們做了報告，內容是我們在美國一個月的經驗，
在報告完的同時，我才意識到我們準備要離開美國，回家了。老師和外國的朋友
們在大家報告完時，相互擁抱，有的人也熱淚盈眶，有點捨不得離開。
終於，結束了這趟有趣且興奮的旅程，我們又坐上了飛機，又是疲憊的十
幾個小時，又是一個亂流，又是一陣尖叫，又是一次自我安慰，我回到了台灣，
見到了家人。
回到家了，我回到台灣了!想想當時是美國的白天，便利用網路留了訊息給
照顧我們一個月的老師，我真的很想念他們，但是，我也終於見到了我最愛的家
人。
這趟旅程讓我經歷了很多可能永遠不會遇到的事情，學了很多，也獲得了
很多，很感謝能夠有這次的機會讓我到國外闖一趟!
This time, study abroad is my first trip abroad. I am very happy to go abroad for

traveling!
Before departure, I arrival at the airport to check luggage and collar Flights very
early. Boarded the plane made me so excited! But my seat is in the middle, can not
see the scenery, so I exchanged a window seat with another people. The time when the
plane took off, there is a very significant climbs, the cabin in shock, it is very exciting
and very nervous liters over when the building on the ground is getting smaller and
smaller ,and this time I really felt, I'm leaving Taiwan, where I have lived for twenty
years. Looked familiar streetscape gradually reduced just like Lilliput, and suddenly
becoming too small to see! And then they began to enjoy the flight meals, can be good
fun to eat on the plane, but do not know is not because not accustomed to flight meals
taste, taste does not seem to imagine delicious, a little disappointed, but still very
happy to eat looking forward to for a long time airplane meals, eating meals on the
aircraft, about one and a half hours to Hong Kong.
Classmates and I are very excited at the Hong Kong airport, walked up and down,
stop shopping duty-free shops, this land is my first trip abroad! See a lot of foreigners,
but most are still Asians so do not be so uptight, and after more than an hour to board
a flight checks before boarding, a children stopping in front of me is drinking
Coca-Cola very fast, I'm a little puzzled, because he let the people behind all stopped

On aircraft flying to the United States, after a few hours, I understand previously

hours so long. I had watched the movie on the aircraft, and playplaying games or
listening to music, a little happy to see the movie that always wanted to see but
missed because I did not want to pay to see the movie, after about seven hours or so, I
looked out the window, views outside the window are obscured by night, just like
wearing a wearing a black dress, I could not see anything , just look at the moon, but
after about half an hour, my classmates and I found that it is a small light on the wing,
because the moon has been the same angle make fun, excitement and exhaustion
warring apart on the plane has been nine hours, a sudden, violent shaking of the
fuselage, vertical and horizontal shaking, this really is the most tense moment, the
aircraft encountered turbulence, this time in the case of some screams accompanied, I
comfort myself: this is just to ride the train swaying. I think I'm gullible, tense mood
suddenly disappeared half, and after about five minutes of turbulence settles down.

the way to see a strange street, strange scenery, strange people, and finally to Purdue
University.
We checked into a Purdue University student dormitory, probably the next day had
been accustomed to foreigners speak English; Purdue University dormitory, for us
really is too luxurious, have their own room, the kitchen can be cook something to eat
every day, there are a variety of ball games, the stadium, now or forget that luxury
dormitory.
The month we were there,teachers regularly take us to the mall so that we can buy
the ingredients we need. Every holiday has a lot of fun activities, of which the most
impressive is the local festivals,Three Rivers festival.There were parade and big
garden party，but the most interesting is that we participate in a boat race competition
with a lot of foreigners. This is the first time boating in my life!When we finish the
game, a reporter came to visit us. Later turned on the local news, it referred to the
name of each of my team members, and we all feel very happy about this.
The day before leaving the United States, we did a report, the contents is about
our experiences in the United States the month. End of Report at the same time, I
realized that we are ready to leave the United States to go home. The report finished,
the teacher and foreign friends hugged everyone of us. Some people were to
tears,everybody of us a little reluctant to leave.
Finally, the end of this interesting and exciting journey, we boarded the plane, and
we faced tired a dozen hours again.There were also a turbulence and some
screams,and I have a self-comforting,too.Then I went back to Taiwan to see his
family.
Got home, I went back to Taiwan! Think that was the United States during the day,
I use the Internet to left a message to the teacher who took care of us for a month, I
really miss them, but,I finally saw my favorite family members.
The trip I experienced a lot of things may never encounter, learned a lot, and also
received a lot of very grateful to have this opportunity to let me break trip abroad!
2012 學海遊學 IPFW 大學團 中文心得報告

將時間到帶至 7/7 早晨，將早已收拾好的行李放到後座，打包自己雀躍已久的
心情，即將前往從以前認為遙不可及的美國，早上 6 點小港機場早已擠滿許多要
出國的國人，心中緊張的感覺大家應該都大同小異。從一開使得知自己錄取學海
到今天，已經經過 2 個月了，中間還經過緊張萬分的美簽申請，害怕自己一個不
小心的回答替這趟旅程增加許多變數，最後，站在這人擠人的小港機場才了解，
我終於要去美國了。通過海關的那一刻，握著手中的中華民國護照，壓抑自己想
大叫的念頭，美國，我來了。
因為轉機的關係在香港國際機場停留 2 個小時左右，大大的落地窗使人一眼望
去沒有壓迫感，寬敞的候機室讓旅客舒服的休息著，從前只能從媒體得知台灣比
不上別人的的地方，如今，忠實呈現眼前，並不是說台灣全都是比不上人家，僅
能說我們還有許多要改進或是加強的地方，畢竟當外國旅客到達台灣第一眼所看
就是國門，擁有完美的第一印象絕對是對台灣大大的加分。當時間一到再次登機
的時候就是要坐 15 個小時的飛機到美國了，心中更是期待。
15 個小時裡面，窗外的景色由白變黑再轉白，為了打發機上無聊的時光，只
能靠機上影片和睡眠漫漫度過，看著前方螢幕到數著降落的時間，心中總是期盼
能在看完下一部影片或是從下一次睡眠中醒來時間就會減少一大半，當最後 30
分鐘機長開始廣播芝加哥當地時間和溫度時，開心的心情已達沸騰了。
一下飛機，最害怕遇到海關，因為一行人都是第一次去美國，深怕一個錯誤
海關就會讓你原機遣返，這樣之前戰戰兢兢的申請美簽和先前的努力都白費了，
然而和海關表明此行的目的和驗個指紋他們都是很歡迎我們來到美國的，一出關
後，興奮的心情真的是無法平靜的，大家集合後和認領自己的行李就要一起去出
口找接待我們的人了。
一到出口就看到 Meg 拿著牌子接待我們，燦爛的笑容瞬間讓我緊張的心情減少
大半，一行人就上了學校派來的大巴士，前往 IPFW，途中 Meg 一個個的認識我
們，我們也順便看看芝加哥的景色，然而時差的魔力還是太厲害了，過不久大家
都進入睡夢中了，經過四小時的車程後我們終於抵達我們的高級 Student Housing，
在那裡也認識接待我們學生 Chloe，Gary 和 Ryan，這一個月裡面因為有他們過
得非常開心。
7/8 經過昨天如幻似夢的到達美國後，今天一張開眼，環顧著自己的獨立套房，
學校安排給我們的房間是四人一間，但是每個人都有自己的獨立套房，私人空間
非常足夠，今天主要行程是和 Meg 吃 Brunch 還有採買一個禮拜的生活所需的
Grocery shopping，雖然稱為超市但是規模就有如台灣的家樂福和愛買，裡面應
有盡有，我們買了一個禮拜所有要吃的早餐，因為每天早上的早餐是要自己做來
吃的，這一個月來每天做早餐都已經做出自己的一片心得了，如果一早非常優閒
就可以自己慢慢間一些培根或蛋來吃，但是想多一點時間補眠的話就會以微波爐
加速做早餐的時間。
7/9 今天一早 Meg 帶我們認識我們的老師 Betsy，這一個月因為她讓我一步步
的了解英文一點也不可怕，而且她的耐心教導讓我非常的受益良多，待我們就有
如媽媽一般，時常關心我們，也總是替我們爭取許多東西，今天她帶我們去認識
我們上課的教室和製作學生證，不得不誇獎他們的辦公能力，學生證的製作時間
僅花 10~20 分鐘，和同學聊一個天就好了，但是看了一下它遺失補發的金額要
20 美金，這可是讓我非常保護我的 IPFW 的學生證，畢竟這也代表我曾是他們的
一員，今天也上了一點課，內容主要是讓 Betsy 了解我們和同學的互相認識，雖
然來自同一個學校但是卻對彼此還不是很認識，透過畫圖的方式讓這一堂課變得
生動有趣，其中 Betsy 也指出我們會話中有一些不合理的地方，例如我們都知道
her 這個單字但是一緊張就會說成 she’s，因此她期望一個月過後我們能有進步。
7/11 今天晚上的主要活動是和一些美國學生互動，認識了 Natalie 和 Lynn，和
他們聊天非常的開心，雖然中間會有一些聽不懂但是大致上可以和他們溝通的來，
然而在活動中 Meg 請我們提出亞洲學生和美國學生的不同之處，雖然腦中有許
多想法但是手卻有如千百斤重不敢舉手發表，其實 Meg 的問題在課堂中我們都
有和 Betsy 討論過，但是要我們在其他國家學生面前提出想法，非常的令我卻步，
不過今天也認識了 Nick 一家人，而且也非常歡迎我們下禮拜去他們家的 ice
cream social。
7/12 今天是我們第一次的校外教學，一早 Betsy 和我們上了一些課後，我們一
行人就浩浩蕩蕩的前往 Union Circle 等公車，前往今天的目的地 Fort Wayne
Museum of Art，這次要欣賞的內容是有關美國夢，世人的美國夢主要是在美國
能賺大錢、有房、有車和在美國能成家立業，Betsy 在昨天就有和我們討論過這
一個議題，主要是讓我們回家想一個題目可以問導覽人員，並且在導覽過程中讓
我們可以大致了解這次的主題和內容，在這次的 Field Trip 中我從導覽人員身上
學到許多，可以感受到他們都非常博學多問，且對我們都非常好，不吝嗇的分享
許多知識。
7/14 今天要去 down town 參加 Three River Festival 的遊行，一早我們和 Chloe
與他的朋友 Naoko 搭車前往 down town，今天將相機、記憶卡和電池準備好要好
好的拍遊行隊伍，站定好位置後就非常開心的準備迎接這次的遊行，因為在台灣
很少看到遊行隊伍所以感到非常開心，在遊行隊伍中可以看到有人騎馬、學校樂
隊表演亦或是當美國大兵經過時每一個人皆會起身替他們歡呼，感謝他們替國家
服務，內容都非常有趣，即使站了好久都不會有腳痠的感覺，這一天 Chloe 也帶
我們去吃一家越南餐館，非常好吃，但是我們走了大概 30 分鐘至一個小時才到
達，過程中都覺得肚子好餓，不過還是很謝謝 Chloe 帶我們去這一家非常美味的
餐館，吃了這麼多天的美國食物，能吃到亞洲菜真的非常開心。
7/18 今天主要的行程有兩個，Allen County Public Library 和 Ice Cream Social at
Nick’s house，今天到圖書館時透過導覽人員讓我們參觀了一般人不能進去的林
肯展覽區，裡面有許多林肯遺留下來的東西，透過這次參觀使我們了解林肯的歷
史，還有能將書本每一頁上傳到網路的工作區，透過這個功能我們只要輕鬆點擊
滑鼠就可以閱讀到許多書本知識。
7/19 今天再 clubhouse 參加了 leadership 的培訓營，與我們會面的都是學校一
些非常有領導能力的人，他們透過這些活動訓練自己的領導能力，這次美國的好
朋友 Lynn 也有參加，能在這邊看到他真的很開心，而且小組比賽時我還和她同
一組，真的很開心，其中有一個活動是我們要用許多的棉花糖、牙籤和軟糖(過
程中我有偷吃，非常不好吃)蓋一個最高的棉花糖塔來和其他組比賽，但是小組
中的有一些人要不能說話、只能用手、說中文、和閉眼睛，這可是增加了我們遊
戲的難度，雖然我們這組沒有贏得比賽，但是過程中真的很好玩，透過蓋棉花糖
塔的活動，我們也更進一步認識彼此。
7/20 今天是禮五，是要和 Chloe 戶外教學的日子，這次的美國行多虧她帶我
們到許多地方，今天要去 Three River Festival-International Village 據說有許多個
國的園遊會，但是到那裏才發現不如預期啊! 雖然還是有許多國家的攤販但是整
體感覺卻是讓人沒有想要逛的欲望阿，於是我們就到 Fort Wayne 的 downtown 逛
一逛，運用我們強而有力的 11 號公車走跳市區，然後我們又走到好吃的越南餐
廳，現在想到還真懷念，是我吃過最好吃的越南菜之一了。
7/21 今天是要和 Meg 一起 Bike Ride on Fort Wayne and Bike Trails to the River
Games，一路上欣賞許多平常看不到的景色，經過了湖、露營區、和古老的紅磚
道，剛開始覺得其腳踏車很辛苦，但是騎到終點才覺得好好玩，一點也不累，而
且時間過得很快，到達我們的目的地時 Betsy 和他的老公已經在那邊等我們了，
他是我們今天的攝影師，幫我們捕捉等一下划船的“蠢樣”，Canoe 是今天的重
頭戲，每三個人一組要比賽誰先到達另一邊的橋再折返回來，可惜我們這一組一
開始就出師不利，不是卡樹就是方向錯誤，最後是有勞岸上人的指導我們才正式
出發，但是已經都看不到其他組了，雖然我們是最後一名但是過程中和同伴們一
起開心的划著船卻是很好玩的。
7/29 今天是一個 Big day，我們終於要去思思念念的芝加哥了，一天來回，挑
戰不可能的任務，一大早大家就比平常的時間更快的時間準備好，偉恩堡到芝加
哥大約要花 4 個小時的時間，因為早起的關係大家馬上入睡，只剩辛苦的司機
Victor 趕路，一睜開眼我們先到的是 Chicago 公牛隊的主場，在外面和麥可．喬
登雕像拍完照後前往 China Town 吃午餐，港式飲茶真的是讓我再三回味阿，一
點也不輸台灣的飲茶店，再到附近逛一逛，遇到我們台灣有名的慈濟擺攤，和我
們聊了很多很開心，還有喝了珍珠奶茶，解解鄉愁阿，再到 The field Museum，
真是大開眼界，這才是真正的“博物館”阿，裡面館藏真的很豐富，接下來就驅
車前往 Navy Pier，是一個大到像海的湖，然後再到千禧公園看有名的 Bean(豆子)，
大家在那裡拍了許多好玩的照片，然後到 Sky deck，這裡是要到電梯到高樓上然
後會有一個四面都是透明玻璃的看台，只要走出去就可以俯瞰整個芝加哥，非常
刺激，再到高樓之前我們會先看一段影片，我們台灣地標台北 101 有出現在裡面
唷!然後我們就一直趕路去吃厚 Pizza，不過等的有點久，我們吃完都晚上 12 點
多了，但是真的是非常好吃阿，現在還讓我念念不忘，最後我們到達宿舍大約是
凌晨 3 點了，結束我們的極限芝加哥旅程。
7/30 今天起床的真的有點累阿，昨天的芝加哥旅行真的非常好玩，今天晚上我
們要去看 Baseball game，Betsy 幫我們訂的票是要做在草地上的，第一次看棒球
賽耶，雖然不是什麼有名的大聯盟，但是也讓我非常振奮，在每一局的中間都會
安排一個活動，有 Kiss Cam 被拍到的人要接吻，還有許多小朋友下場玩遊戲，
真的很可愛，而每個人都拿到一個棒球當作紀念品唷。
8/2 今天是我們最後一次的校外教學，首站我們先到 Allen County Courthouse，
這是一個讓我覺得美的無法呼吸的一個”法院”，接待我們的是一個非常學識淵博
的老爺爺，最讓我印象深刻的是我們躺在地板看美麗的天花板，躺在地板欣賞真
的是非常有趣的經驗，然後我們去欣賞一間間的法庭，裡面真的是非常古色古香
很有味道，法庭內的椅子和壁畫都有百年歷史了，不得不佩服百年前人的智慧，
每個壁畫也都有不同意思，透過壁畫可以了解印第安那州的歷史喔。接著我們去
Science Central，這是一個比較適合小朋友的科學博物館，但是我們 19、20 歲的
大學生也都玩得不亦樂乎，透過這些小活動能了解許多科學原理，讓我頓時有返
老還童的感覺。
8/3 這是離別的前一天，晚上，我們到 Cole Common 參加 IPFW 替我們舉辦的
餞別會，有我最喜歡的 Betsy, Meg, Chloe, Natalie ,Ryan 和 Gary，我們分成幾個
小組來介紹我們精心準備的 PPT，我們這組可是壓軸喔，我們介紹大家一些簡單
的中文，最後我們告訴大家 We love you and we will miss you，然後大家就吃著好
吃的美食，一起拍照，最後當 Betsy 要離開的時候，才驚覺以後都不能看到他了，
這一個月多虧她把我們當成自己的小孩照顧，許多事情細心處理、幫我們爭取多
事物，眼淚當然是止不住的，最後和大家一一擁抱互說 Good bye，就回房間整
理明天要正式返家的行李了。
8/4 一早就要離開生活一個月的 IPFW 了，真的很謝謝學校給我這次機會參活
動，讓我開拓我的視野，增進國際觀，任是許多朋友真的是我這輩子忘都忘不了
的事情，也謝謝他們給我這麼美好的回憶，We love you and we will miss you.
2012 學海遊學 IPFW 大學團 英文心得報告

Going to America really means my dream come true, when I was a child I hoped I
could go abroad and see the world. My mom always tells me that the world is big, I
have go out and feel it. I tell myself the knowledge is not only from the book but also
from your life.
About the language, it’s really hard for me to speak fluently at the beginning but
practice makes perfect, we had an excellent teacher, Betsy, she was very patient to us,
she made everybody to practice all the time even we used the wrong sentences or
vocabularies and she never let us feel embarrassed because I think it is important for
Taiwanese, we think the English is not our mother language so we are afraid to speak
out loud. The 30 days in America, I felt I was more confident than before and it was
not that shy to speak the wrong English, even we used the wrong words they still
could figure out what we mean and it was just like us sometime we needed to guess
what they say according to some words he/she said in the sentences. And the most
important of all, do not scared and shy to ask the questions and tell people your
problems, they are very nice to help you.
About making friends, I have to say that I am a lucky girl, I made a lot of friends
such as Chloe, Lynn, Ryan, Gary, Meg and Nick’s family…….I am so glad I can be
their friend and they are all very nice, Gary and Ryan brought us to go bowling, mini
golf and outlet, it’s really fun to be with them and we a lot of crazy things together.
Chloe and Lynn were the nicest girls, we do a lot of stuff together, Chloe was one of
our student president, she was in charge us just like a tour guide, at some Saturday,
she needed to bring us to downtown joining some events and I couldn’t forget the day
we went to the Three River’s Parade with her, after the event Naoko, one of her friend,
and she brought us to a Vietnam restaurant to have lunch, I really missed the Asian
food around that days so the food really tasted very delicious and it still in mind now,
making me want to try again. Meg was a really good teacher, she was the first person
we met in America, I really liked her laughing, it’s very cute and fun, in this one
month, she prepared many events for us, let my day be full of joy. And I am going to
introduce my excellent “American mom” and she was also our best teacher ever, she
always treated us like her own children and made the best choices for us, in the class
she pushed us to speak and helped us to practice English, most important of all, she
tried very hard to build our confidence, I really appreciated and thanked her.
About the Chicago trip, walk, walk and walk are the only three words to describe
this trip, however, I have to say it is the best trip ever, we went to Millennium Park,
there are some information about it, Millennium Park is a public park located in
the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois, USA and originally intended to
celebrate the millennium, planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction
began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16,
2004, four years behind schedule, especially we went to the Cloud Gate and Crown
Fountain, there were a lot of movie taken at Cloud Gate, it was looked like an silver
beans and we took a lot of funny picture through its reflection. Crown Plaza, the
fountain is composed of a black granite reflecting pool placed between a pair of
transparent glass bricktowers, if the weather permitting, the water operates from May
to October, intermittently cascading down the two towers and spouting through a
nozzle on each tower's front face, at that day we walked through the fountain we saw
a lot of kid playing happily with their parents. Then we used the delicious pizza to end
our trip, Giordano's Pizza is the world's most famous stuffed pizza, it was not like any
normal, thin pizza, it’s filled a lot of food such as mushroom、vegetables or meat, so it
looked very thick and yummy, and I felt fulfill when I bit it.
It’s really glad I have this opportunity to go abroad and explore my international
vision, because of this trip, I think I am more confident and independent, sometimes
we needed to do all the thing on our own even though we have many nice helpers, we
needed to order the meal by ourselves in English and asked the sales what we wanted
still in English, English is not our mother language but keep practicing can make us
perfect, I am so appreciate I have this chance and I really miss my American friends.
2012 學海遊學 美國印第安納普渡大學團 中文心得報告

當我還是一年級新生的時候，我得知了學校有一個學海獎學金的出國計畫，
其實那時剛好有機會可以申請，但很可惜的是我錯過了申請的時間，說真的有一
種心碎的感覺，那時候就抱著聽天由命的心態上了大二，心想如果有再一次的機
會，絕對不能再錯失了，但其實內心百般焦慮，怕這難得的機會從此就跟我差身
而過，不會再出現了。因為從來沒有去過大國家，真的好想出國去闖一闖，體驗
在異國的生活，我覺得我不應該說好想，應該是要說內心極度的渴望。從以前就
對語言方面特別有興趣，好像我對語言也有不少天分，很快的學會，也讓我很有
成就感，興趣也就越來越濃厚，所以真的夢想有一天我可以去美國，在當地生活
和當地人溝通，那怕是待在美國短短一天都是種享受，但我想機票費也不是說很
便宜，應該沒有人在這麼短的時間就要回國了，當然要去痛痛快快的玩樂一番，
才不虛此行。在得到學海出國資格前，我想這一切都只是每天縈繞在腦海的頻空
想像和幻想，感覺就好像是種奢求。但在老天爺的眷顧和學校的支助下，我終於
通過了不簡單的關卡，取得了通往美國的門票，即將踏上我夢寐以求的國土。
在看到學海錄取名單中出現我的名子時，心裡高興的情緒如泉水般湧出，也
隨即打電話和家人分享，他們都很喜悅的聽到了這個好消息，出國前的兩三天，
媽媽就開始幫我整理我的行李，深怕我漏掉了帶那些東西，去美國就會有很多不
方便的地方；爸爸也一直叮嚀我出門在外凡事都要特別小心，這真的是一趟未知
的旅程，父母不免會擔心，特別是生長到二十歲這個年紀，第一次單獨離開台灣
要前往幾萬公里遠的美國，他們的關心讓我備感溫馨。但那時我內心的獨白是:
「放心吧，爸媽，我會好好照顧自己的，你們不用擔心。｣就這樣心情一直是興
奮的，到了七月六號晚上，跟爸爸互相擁抱，我們互相都帶著笑容說再見，爸爸
也祝我能在美國有一個月特別的另類生活；引擎聲在寂靜的夜晚中發動了，媽媽
開著車從雲林到楠梓，時間已經是凌晨一點多了，和媽媽去吃完宵夜後回到宿舍
休息，但是我躺在床上輾轉夜未眠，因為興奮的感覺沒消失甚至快衝破心頭，一
直看著時鐘一分一秒的轉動，終於等到了天亮，七月七號六點鐘，準時到達機場，
媽媽幫忙我提著行李到候機大廳等待，要和我一起出國的同伴們也陸續的抵達機
場，集合後，看著大家的表情都難掩著興奮和期待，拖著行李前往稱重的地方，
而媽媽也在我過海關之前跟我依依不捨道別，隨著飛機的啟航，我就是個旅行者，
期許我即將在新的地方會紀錄下生活上精彩的一頁。
一開始先飛到香港轉機，飛行時間只有兩三個小時，翱翔在雲海之上，坐在
窗戶旁，欣賞雲海的美，一大片白茫茫，心裡都神清氣爽了起來，飛機上的餐點
也很好吃，到了香港，在候機的時間四處閒晃了一下，也拍了很多不同航空公司
飛機的照片，很多外觀設計都很有美感又時尚，外面看起來很小，但實際上每台
飛機都可以容納無數的乘客，從以前就為這件事感到有一點神奇，到現在還是沒
變；在打發時間不久後我們一行人又搭乘國泰航空的班機要前往芝加哥了，這次
的飛行時間就有點久了，需要十幾個小時，第一次坐長途的飛機讓我有很多的感
想，有享受的地方但是也有難熬的時候，享受的是在機上一邊吃著美味高級餐點，
一邊欣賞著螢幕中播放的電影，飯後甜點還是哈根達的冰淇淋，空姐的服務態度
也都超好的，還給了我們很多額外剩下的冰淇淋，真的是很滿足了我們的味雷；
當而睡意來的時候，閉上眼睛蓋著毯子加上聽著自己喜歡的音樂，整個人很放鬆，
睡得很安穩；但當睡眠時間足夠了，肚子也有飽足感的時候，就會覺得坐在機艙
裡有一點小小的辛苦，坐到有點累，活動空間又很小，只能不時的站起來上廁所
或走一走，也有點無聊，只能看看螢幕裡提供的娛樂節目，還會不時的注意飛行
所剩時間，心裡想的是還有好久喔，然後默默的倒數時間，好想快點到美國。
等飛機要下降的那一刻，心情簡直比中頭彩還開心，終於可以讓我坐到快要
爛掉的屁股和快要打結的筋骨好好活動一下了，但下了飛機，我還是處於昏昏沉
沉的狀態，耳鳴有加上暈機有點想吐的感覺，真的很不舒服，可是想到我已經到
了美國這件事就讓我頓時清醒振作，拖著疲憊的身軀通過了海關人員所詢問的問
題後，就順利的出關了。之後在眾多的接機人海中，我們在尋找著要帶我們前往
普渡大學的校方人員，在左尋右看不久，我們便看到了熱情向我們打招呼，手上
拿著有著 IPFW 標誌的旗幟，緩緩朝我們走來的 Meg，第一眼見到她，超級有親
和力，臉上不時掛著笑容，非常歡迎我們的到來。Meg 帶領我們走出機場，等待
大巴士載我們去普渡大學的所在地－偉恩堡。當天的天氣晴空萬里，豔陽高照，
我忍不住閉上眼睛深吸了一口氣，好新鮮的空氣，芝加哥多美的城市啊!在我心
中留下美好的印象。
從出發到達目的地還要三個多小時，美國就是什麼東西都很大，遼闊的土地，
從至個城市到另一個城市，三小時，對我們台灣人來說路途遙遠阿!但當地人卻
習以為常。一上巴士，Meg 跟我們聊天也認識我們每個人的名子還發給我們 IPFW
贈送的見面禮，之後因為長途飛機讓我們都臉帶倦容，我在車上睡著了，但有些
人卻不想錯過難得的美景，眼皮很重卻沒闔上眼，一路上用相機捕捉下每個景像。
當地時間的中午時刻，巴士停靠在一家道地的美式餐廳讓我們用餐，走近餐廳，
我很快的瀏覽了菜單，腦袋空白，愣了很久，因為有一些字看不懂，也毫無頭緒
自己要吃什麼，但還是硬著頭皮隨便點了餐，人生中第一次開口用英文點餐，感
覺有點奇怪很不習慣，但凡事都要有新嘗試，是個還不錯的新體驗。因為我們一
大群台灣學生一進餐廳就吸引很多人注目，我就遇到了一個外國人問我:Where
are you from?，我緊張的回答著:Taiwan，這又是個第一次，與外國人之間的對話，
因為沒有很溜的會話能力，我都一直是面帶微笑的化解尷尬，還好她沒有跟我聊
很久，不然我想我應該需要 Meg 來幫我了。用完餐，又繼續著車程，這時我精
神變好了，也開始望向窗外欣賞壯闊的美景，沿途的大片麥田，小木屋式的鄰家
建築，讓我回想起以前看過的美國電影裡的畫面，現在都真實的呈現在我眼前，
真的是大開了眼界，好喜歡這種美式風格、美式鄉村。
一開始是到了普渡大學的學生宿舍區，好多獨棟的建築映入眼簾，白色的牆
參雜著紅色磚塊的設計風格頗獨特，眼望過去整齊劃一，這也將是我們即將住上
一個月的地方，沒有擁擠的壓迫感，取而代之的是空曠和悠閒感，我開始愛上這
個地方。近入學生們從事休閒活動的地方 Club House，有桌球、撞球、健身房等
設施，每天都可以去那裡玩，既能放鬆又可以達到運動的好處，國外的大學果真
不同凡響，這就更加讓我喜愛整個氛圍。接這進入房間簡單的放下行李後，就四
處看看，對房間內的設備都很感興趣，有些很先進的東西從來沒看過，在心理
WOW 了好大一聲，因為住的地方簡直跟五星級飯店有的比，好有度假勝地的感
覺。
隔天在 Triangle Park 吃中餐，餐廳老闆還為我們特製了菜單，很多從來沒有
品嘗過食物，來美國都可以大飽口福；之後 Meg 和其他兩個工作人員載我們去
Meijer 買我們早餐要吃的東西，賣場空間是台灣大賣場的兩三倍大，東西琳琅滿
目應有盡有，也很便宜，讓我們買了很多，每天早上我們都必須負責自己的早餐，
自己煎蛋、培根夾吐司配上一杯牛奶，讓早上的精神和元氣都滿分，在國外自己
下廚的體驗真的也是別有一番風味呢!而因為前一天到達學校時天色已經昏暗，
並沒有特注意時間；當從 Meijer 回來後也吃完了晚餐，看了一下時間快七點了，
但天色依舊明亮，讓我有點驚訝也有點不習慣，跟台灣的情況差的有點多，但幾
個禮拜後也就見怪不怪了。
在美國生活的這一個月中，在文化交流上面學到了不少，語言能力也有所進
步，負責教導 ESL 學生的老師 Betsy，不僅在課堂上給予我們很好的教材和資源
讓我們可以有效的學習英文，帶我們到偉恩堡市中心參觀時也會鼓勵我們去問題
並在旁協助我們，我比較喜歡去戶外學習的方式，因為每次待在教室都只能練習
發音、團員間互相用英文對話，顯得有些沉悶，但在戶外就可以很自由很開放無
拘束的學習，多聽多看多探索，建議學校採用這種方式，待在教室的時間可以少
一點。我們去市中心參觀了圖書館，裏面有好多資源可以提供市民使用，但台灣
卻不是每個地方都有這麼大的經費可以有這麼大量的知識庫，讓我有點羨慕；也
去看了放了很多收藏品的密室，那不是一般人能進入的，但我們很幸運的有這個
機會可以一探究竟。到藝術博物館欣賞了油畫、水彩畫、利用回收物品製作成的
立體大型藝術品等當地藝術家耗時已久辛苦完成的結晶。還去了當地的法院，裏
面的裝潢非常的富麗堂皇，也具有藝術感，每個巨幅大畫都有深刻的意義。真的
是每到一個新地方都可以讓自己大開眼界。
當時在偉恩堡剛好遇上當地一年一度的盛典 Three River Festival，我們也去參
加了一系列的活動，第一個是去看遊行，它為 Three River Festival 揭開了序幕，
熱鬧的人潮、精彩的表演、震耳欲聾的歡呼聲再搭配上街道旁英國學院風的建築
物，瞬間好多畫面就像串成一部微電影，都以美麗的形式烙印在我腦海裡了；接
下來是 Bike Riding，穿過樹蔭小徑，體驗騎單車的樂趣，我們騎到了我們要參加
泛舟的目的地，我克服了對水的恐懼，也試著用划槳讓水上形成密集的波紋，獨
木舟就一直往前進，第一次划船好有成就感；最後去了國際村，體驗各式各樣不
同的國家風情。
也因為每個禮拜都有不同的活動，每次去參加就都會認識不同的人，Game
Night，在那裏認識了 Megan 是個非常漂亮的女生，每次和她說話都可以感受到
她的氣質非凡，Gary 是個非常好相處的菲律賓人，而 Ryan 是個廚藝非常好的韓
國人，在偶然的機會下我們品嘗到了道地的韓國料理，William 是美國人，一開
始他很熱情很大方的打開話匣子和我們聊天，而我們一開始因為不熟，台灣人的
表現就是會有點害羞，話真的不多，也因為英文能力有限，一開始聽他們說話和
做要做出反應回答他們，有些吃力，但 William 卻一點也不介意，要我們盡量表
現的外向開放一點，我想這也就是文化上的差別。在 Leader Training 中認識了
Seyoung、Joe、Lynn、Wendy……，在和他們玩遊戲的過程中，發現每個 Leader
都有自己的長處和特色，他們的領導能力也是我們可以學習的地方。Chloe 都會
跟我們一起搭公車到 Downtown，帶我們去逛很多商店還帶我們去吃 Chinese Food，
美式食物熱量都很高也有點重口味，真的很不習慣美國的飲食，能吃到家鄉味真
的是一種感動；而也因為 Chloe 是中國人會講中文，所以每次懶的用應文溝通的
時候，就會偷偷的用中文溝通，這也是我們那時候在美國的樂趣之一，因為每次
都會聽到 Betsy 和 Brian's office 裡面的校方人員 Ashley 說: English!!!No Chinese!!!，
有時候遇到不會表達的句子真的會很無助，只好偷偷講中文了，回想起那段時光
真的很難忘。
認識了這麼多朋友，我們從一開始的陌生，到幾個禮拜後的一起熱絡的聊天，
一起 Hang Out 去打保齡球，一起看小聯盟球賽，一起營造了好多美好的回憶，
對最後一天為我們舉辦 Farewell，離情依依，非常不捨的向他們道別。我想旅行
就是這麼一回事，當自己熟悉並愛上當地一切美好事物的時候，通常也是要說再
見的時候，現在回想起來真的很想念在偉恩堡的的點點滴滴。一個月的時間稍縱
即逝，希望有機會還能重遊偉恩堡，和好久不見的朋友碰面。
而我也不會忘記，在 2012 年的夏天，我在偉恩堡做了很多有意義的事情，
也有不少收穫，我認識的朋友們也非我生命中的過客，而是從我們認識的那一刻
起，他們就在我心中占有一席之地。

When I was a freshman, I got the information that school has the project
about going abroad for one month. Then I had the chance to apply and try to get
this qualification , but, unfortunately ,I missed the time of this application .When
I knew this fact the only feeling is disappointed can be described in my mind. But
life still need to go ahead, don’t let one trivial thing defeat you, I said by myself.
Through the time goes by, I go up to the sophomore, holding the fatalistic
mentality. Can I get the second opportunity or not, I think it just depended on
destiny. Though I have this belief during this waiting period, still a little anxious.
Because I afraid that the fortune for me will not come again. Why I have this
pessimistic mood? Actually, I don’t know. The only thing I know is I can’t always
think in this bad way. I need to change the state of my mind, or I will lose the
motivation which I really want to pursue for a long time. But I can make some
prediction why I have that anxious expression and behavior, I guess that because
I have wanted to go abroad to broaden my horizon in a great desire since long
time ago. Dreaming of experience the life in foreign country and communicate
with local people. I think it’s must really cool and fun.
I really can’t believe my dream is going to come true, when I saw my name
appeared on the admission List. I finally passed the trial and got the ticket to
America. The mood is hard to describe in any words, it’s truly happy ,definitely
having more pleasant atmosphere than hit the jackpot. I made a phone call to my
family and told them this great news ,in a rapid speed. They are delightful, too.
The two or three days before I go abroad, my mom started to help me prepare
my items in the luggage Because she worried that I lost something important
goods I need to use when I go to travel. That way may make me inconvenience.
So I really thanks my mom always cares me a lot. It’s also an unknown journey,
so my dad reminded me that I need to have vigilance and be careful on
everything. Sometimes parents will be very serious when their child doing some
tremendous events, especially this is my first time went out alone, and without
their accompany. Under that moment my soliloquy is :dear my mom and dad, I
will care myself well, you can be relieved ,and I think it’s also a good time for me
to learn how to be independent. Until the evening of July sixth ,I still feel excited,
having a hug with my dad and saying goodbye to each other wear a smile on our
face. My dad also wished me can have a totally different and colorful life in
America. My mom drived me from Yunlin to Kaohsiung, when arrived Nanzih, the
time is very late, we went to ate the midnight snack. After that we went back to
my dormitory to take a rest .But I couldn’t sleep well, tossing and turning on the
bed, because I really expected the next coming morning, looking forward to take
the plane to the aspirational and coveted place where I dream to proceed. Follow
the clock ticked infinite times, my mind got a little out of control. Finally, it’s time
for me to set out from my dorm to the airport. When I reach there on time, my
mom helped me to take the heavy baggage, waiting at the longue with me. The
other fifteen members also appeared at the arranged location one after another.
After we gathered together, beginning to put our suitcases on the scale to inspect
the weight, going to the check－in counter to make everything sure we can go
abroad. I wave my hands and said goodbye to my mom, then I went to the
departure area. We Passed the security check successfully, sitting at the waiting
lobby for a while, then going to the boarding gate.
The flight is going to take off, from now on, I become a traveler, I hope I can
create a new chapter full of wonderful things in my life.
In the beginning, we need to transfer the plane at Hong Kong airport, the
time of flight is short, just about three hours. When reach the cruising altitude, I
enjoyed admiring the beautiful of dense cloud changing different shape during
that route, and the food they provide also delicious, all of these good
environment made my spirit more refreshing. When we landed at Hong Kong
airport, I strolled around and took some pictures of stylish plane to kill time.
Pretty soon, we start a journey again, this time, the destination is Chicago. The
total duration time for the flight is more than ten hours. This is my first time to
take a long time flight, so I have many opinions. Though the in-flight
entertainments are fully equipped, including movies, music, games etc, the flight
attendant’s service is excellent, too and I loved every meals I ate. Even so, still
feel a little uncomfortable because of the narrow space, I can’t stretch my arm
and leg smoothly. And when I already done the recreation I interested in, this
situation make me more boring and tired. That why I left my seat to go to the
toilet and walk at aisle so frequently. Just want to arrive America in a quickly
way.
when the plane landing at Chicago airport, I eventually can ease and do
exercise. But I was in terrible circumstance after I went out the cabin, I got an
airsick, tinnitus so that I want to vomit. However, one inspiration flashed in my
brain, it told me I am in America right now, so I feel better, I think it’s amazing.
Without answering too much question, the customs officer just asked me two
simple questions, then I inbounded. After everything be well prepared, we guys
started to find the coordinator in the crowded throng. Looking for a while, we
find the school’s staff, she greeted us passionate by waving the flag with the icon
which printed IPFW which is the abbreviation of this school. Afterwards, we
followed her step to go outside to take the bus to our real destination Fort
Wayne. While waiting the bus coming, I took the deep breath to feel that fresh air
in foreign country ,it’s really awesome.
Most things are wide and large in America in my impression, not to say the range
of the land, so we need to spend three hours to arrive IPFW. What a long distance,
so we took a break in the middle of course. We went to a local American
restaurant to eat lunch. When I browsed the menu over, I can’t understand the
whole meaning, so I afraid of ordering the meal initially. But I urge myself to try,
if I want to learn and get some experience to improve my English skill. This is my
first time to use speaking ability and I thought I made an ample move
successfully. We catch many customers’ attention in the restaurant. Later, one
American walked toward my direction to talk with. I was quite nervous. He asked
me: Where are you from? Then I answered: Taiwan! Although it a simple and
easy conversation, I still feel embarrassed. Anyway, that my foremost attempt
once again.
when it comes to IPFW’s student housing is really gorgeous, the outside
appearance made me feel ware just like a village, many students from all over the
world can live together. School provide many advanced facilities and comfortable
equipments for students to use. So I feel attached to this area immediately.
However, I have the problem I need to face, the sunset time is late in Fort Wayne,
it’s took me few days to accustomed.
During these period I stay in Fort Wayne, I have the enormous harvest.
Every coordinators in our program helped us a lot. Care about us all the time and
encourage us to speak English in a open minded way. And I like the outdoor
activities most, because I like to explore the extraordinary objects around my
side. In my viewpoint ,when I went to downtown to visit Art museum, Library,
Allen County Courthouse, TV station, I consider that really more interesting than
the knowledge we got in the classroom. By the way, I think our ESL course
teacher, Betsy, helping us to try to speak English with the complete sentences
when we have many chances to go outside to learn, because of her I enhanced
my capability a lot in one month.
If someone ask me: which occasion is the most fascinating you attend in Fort
Wayne? No doubt, I will answer “The Three River Festival”. Because we
participated a series of activities in the Festival, such as
parade ,canoe ,International Village, Trolley shopping. All of them are amusing
and special, because it’s the annual grand ceremony, so I think we are very lucky
to meet this Festival in coincidence.
To me, every friends I met in Fort Wayne are not the passengers fleeting
away in my life, what I need to say is that when the first time we met, you guys
already have the important position in my mind. Wish one day I could go back to
Fort Wayne again.
To sum up, the year of 2012,I had an unforgettable and awesome tour in
Fort Wayne during my summer vacation.

今年，雖然有很多風風雨雨，但也是我人生中美好的一年。
因為，今年暑假，我參與了學海，到美國度過了難忘的一個月。
遙想當時，跟著我們班好幾位同學，一起去校本部考英文檢定。那時的我戰
戰兢兢地，深怕英文不是很好的我會名落孫山，無法參加學海。考完後，看大家
都一派輕鬆的走出來，讓我更憂心了，感覺自己離出國的夢想越來越遠了！我的
導師跟我說：「考試考完後，就應該放下了，再擔心也沒用。等待結果出來，如
果有上就去，沒上也沒關係，至少你有去嘗試過。」經過老師這番話後，我逐漸
放下緊張的心情，考完後在杞人憂天的確無助於事，只是增加自己的心理負擔罷
了！考試前實力的累積與努力才是最重要的，不是嗎？
在四月九日放榜的那天，當我看到榜單上有我的名字的那一瞬間，我無法用
任何言語來形容我當時的心情！！我不敢相信自己真的考上了！！感謝在準備
考試期間許多人給我的建議與指點，才能讓我離夢想更近一點。待情緒穩定之後，
我的心情真是憂喜參半。喜的是考上了很開心，憂的是去美國之前有很多事要做，
辦簽證、上台北面試、整理行李（什麼東西是該帶與不該帶的？…），最重要的
是，我擔心我的破英文無法跟當地人溝通！！！不過目前最需跨過的關卡就是去
AIT 辦簽證，為此我還特地上網做了許多功課，跟許多人請益面試的技巧。然而，
我還是發生了很多糗事…先是在按指紋那關按了四次，怎麼按就是沒辦法過，按
到那關關主感覺放棄我了！後來在面試時，我跟我另外兩名團員很認真的回答問
題，但或許是我們的面試官比較謹慎，最後雖然有給我們過，但發了一張黃單要
補件！真的有點兒小窘，因為除了我們三人要補件外，其他人都有過關！！！
之後在學校的補件下順利過關，剩下的，就是整理行李與心情了。整理行李
真是一門學問，光是要不要帶泡麵這問題就讓我問了快不下 10 個人。有人說可
以帶；有人說不能帶；有人說可以帶但不能有肉類……綜合以上觀點，再加上我
阿姨的一句：
「帶泡麵去可以換口味、思鄉兼當王」
，我最後帶了泡麵去，果然有
幫助！感謝我的阿姨們，聽到我要出國，不但大方地借我行李袋，還情義相挺地
贊助我旅費，讓我能夠順利地出國學習兼旅遊，真是太感謝他們的幫助了！！
七月七號，從睡不到兩三個小時的美夢中清醒，帶著整理好的行囊，準備出
發前往機場，跟台灣說聲 See you！這是我第二次出國，然而，我卻沒有要離開
的心情，或許，我心裡還不願意相信我要去美國了吧！當大家興高采烈地在過情
人節時，我想，我已經踏著我簡單的步伐，坐在飛往另一國度的鐵鳥裡了吧。在
長達 16-17 個小時的長途飛行，我除了吃飯、睡覺、看影集外，就不斷拿著英文
書猛 K，深怕過海關時出差錯。幸運的是，海關人很好，還跟我聊了一下天，審
查就在聊天中過關了！我們在芝加哥下飛機時是當地時間的下午一點多，等出機
場時看到我們的正妹接機老師，她叫 Meg，是一位人很 Nice 的大姊姊。之後我
們就坐上了只為了我們開的超級大巴士(目測大概有 40-50 座位吧！)，前往距離
芝加哥機場還有四個小時車程的目的地－IPFW（印第安納-普渡大學偉恩堡分校）
美國的高速公路跟台灣的很不一樣，它不是高架式的而是平面式的，讓人不
會有開在高速公路上的感覺。途中我們在高速公路的速食店用餐。剛開始大家都
有點兒膽怯，加上牆上的餐點招牌字有點小，令團員們不知從何下手？！他們不
像台灣的店家除了牆上的招牌外，還有在點餐台時供客人方便點餐的 Menu。後
來是 Meg 親自示範一次，並協助一些團員們點餐，大家才能飽餐一頓。美國的
飲料是可以續杯的，感覺好像不怕你喝的讓你自己裝。餐點份量也很大，光是單
點就能吃得很飽。在結帳時，與台灣不同的是，在美國買東西是需要加稅的，且
稅金的%數是根據各州而不同，像印第安那州大概是 6~7%，而之後介紹的芝加
哥稅金高達 9.5%！！！很多錢都被稅金吃掉了。而且美國的錢幣是算到小數點
後兩位，所以光是硬幣就有四種幣值，同種幣值印出來的花樣還會不同！！在結
帳時，如何拿取正確金額的錢幣給店員？對初來乍到的我們來說真是不小的挑戰
呀！
晚上六七點我們終於到達了目的地－IPFW 的學校及宿舍區。一眼望去，你
會以為自己到了高級豪宅集合住宅區之類的地方，每一棟宿舍就像是一棟棟的豪
宅。進到了宿舍內並分配房間，一樓是大廳，供大家集合、討論、看電視的地方，
牆上還有一台目測約 60 吋的觸碰電視。之後到了房間，一進房便看到許多家庭
設備，如一整套的微波爐、瓦斯爐和大烤箱，冰箱、洗衣機和烘衣機，甚至還有
洗碗機和製冰機！連廚具（碗、小盤、大盤、餐具）都貼心的幫我們準備好了！！
之後再往裡面走，除了四間個人房間外，還有個小客廳可以休息並欣賞戶外的美
景。Meg 還為了怕我們肚子餓，還自掏腰包的買了餅乾、貝果和水果給我們吃，
真是超貼心！剛到美國時，我們對美國的天色很不習慣！在台灣，大概 6-7 點天
色就暗了，然而，在美國卻是要到晚上 10 點太陽公公才下山，或許也因為如此，
我前兩個禮拜在美國都自然醒，完全不用鬧鐘叫呢！！
隔天早上，我們先去學校對面的 Triangle Park (是一間我們會吃一個月晚餐的
餐廳)去用 Brunch ( 據說美國人很愛吃早午餐 )。剛開始大家都不是很會點餐，
所以點餐速度很慢。Triangle Park 很貼心的製作了專屬於我們義守大學的 Menu！！
很感謝裡面的服務生以及 Meg、Mike 和 Gary、Ryan 他們很有耐心的教導我們如
何點餐？餐點內容是什麼？…等，讓我們能餵飽我們飢腸轆轆的肚子！下午，我
們就去幫我們的冰箱「填飽肚子」啦－Grocery shopping！美國的 Market 很大，東
西應有盡有，什麼都有什麼都不奇怪。讓我印象深刻的是，美國的水果是秤重的！
基於台灣櫻桃很貴加上美國盛產櫻桃，到 Market 的我就努力的搜尋櫻桃，好不
容易找到了我就拿一袋起來。原本我以為價錢就是牌子上寫的，但 Gary 告訴我
們說那價錢是一磅多少錢，而非一袋多少錢！這讓我學到了一課。
第一周開始了！我們在大廳先認識了即將擔任我們一個月的英文老師－
Betsy，她帶我們去參觀花園，遇到了人很好的園丁先生，他很熱心地介紹我們
許多的職務。之後又去逛校園，認識新環境和教室。原本我以為我們會考試分班
並跟外國人一起上課，但我們是 15 人自成一班，這讓我有點兒小驚訝！我記得
第一堂課，老師發下了一張紙與畫畫用具，要我們把紙摺成四份，分別畫出你最
喜歡的食物；你最喜歡的國家；你的興趣是什麼？；你最害怕什麼？畫完後給你
五分鐘時間去找你不同寢室的同學，以英文詢問對方的畫，並上台介紹對方給大
家聽。這讓我印象很深刻，因為在台灣的教育總會叫我們自我介紹，而不會先了
解別人，之後介紹此人給大家。第一天就讓我看到了美國和台灣教育的不同！禮
拜三晚上去宿舍區的 Clubhouse 和美國學生們一起”cookout and game night”，主
持人 Nick 很細心地整理了一些東西方文化上的差異，其實有些點還蠻精準的，
如東方較被動，西方較主動；東方的愛是默默的關心，西方的愛會勇於說出口；
東方思考事情總是三思而後行，而西方對事情的看法較屬於行動派，勇於去做…
等，讓我們看到了不同文化上的一面，有助於我們互相了解彼此。要回去時看到
有人在沙灘排球場打球，他們很熱心地邀請我們一起加入。他們是一群從各國來
的高中生，我們認識了兩個很會打排球的泰國人。在國外打球和台灣不同的是，
不管你打得好不好，他們都會說 it is nice./it’s ok./Try it again./Good jobs./Nice
play…等，他們都不會責怪你；和在台灣不同。很難得可以享受這麼輕鬆自在的
打球氣氛，而且這一點都不影響他們的認真度，他們甚至會為了接一顆球做出
類似仆街的動作!!!或許是因為這種運動的氣氛很好，我和一些團員們在美國常常
會跑去運動，不管是籃球、排球、桌球，甚至撞球，有時也會飯後散步到處走走。
禮拜五我們受邀參加了 international party，他們希望我們能介紹台灣的特色小吃
並做出來給各國的學生品嘗。我們決定做台灣的國民飲品－珍珠奶茶!!!!珍珠的
材料真難找，美國好像沒有這種東西，Betsy 幫我們找到的是類似西米露的東西。
黑糖也是很難找，在美國，黑糖和紅糖統稱叫做 Brown sugar，而不是我們誤以
為的 Black sugar!!!但是他們的 Brown sugar 又跟台灣的黑糖不一樣，感覺很像是
有黑糖味道的紅糖!!!最後在 Betsy、Meg 以及大家的努力下，我們成功地推廣了
台灣的美食，這也算是國民外交的一種吧！禮拜六我們很幸運地參加了當地的節
慶－Three Rivers Festival 三江節!!!為什麼叫做三江節呢？因為偉恩堡是由三條
江所圍繞出來的!!!那天的活動是一年一度的遊行，據說是為了歡慶美國國慶日所
舉辦的!!!這是我第一次參與遊行，雖然我們從頭站到尾幾乎站了兩個半小時，但
是拿相機的手卻從沒停過，甚至拍到手痠、沒電!!!在遊行中你可以看到各式各樣
的創意出現在其中，令你驚訝連連!!!
第二週緊接著到來。最近的課程是發音課和聽力課，老師會找一些教音標發
音的影片給我們看並練習。聽力課則是會找一些有趣的網站或影片，讓我們練習
聽力。禮拜二時，原本的 Grocery shopping 改成去 Glenbrook Mall shopping!!!美國
的 Mall 和台灣不同，只有一層樓，但是裡面超大超廣的！大家一進去就開始狂
去買美國品牌的衣服，很多人都滿載而歸!!!晚餐就在裡面的餐廳裡享用，沒想到
Meg 帶我們去吃 Friday!!!這間店我連在台灣都沒吃過，沒想到第一次就貢獻在美
國!!隔天去參觀美國的圖書館(ACPL)，裡面真的營造出很舒適的氣氛與空間，每
個精心規劃的區域能讓各種需求的人都達到滿足。解說員人很好，還帶我們去看
秘密的地下室－林肯博物館的東西和許多書籍，也聽了很多林肯的小故事。能這
麼近距離的看到林肯的文物，對他的感覺好像更熟悉了一點。晚上 Nick 邀請我
們去他們家參加 Ice cream social party.我們玩了許多的小遊戲，最令我印象深刻
的是 Mafia，在台灣稱「天黑請閉眼」
，不知為何我一直被認為是殺手，明明我就
是善良公民!!!總之在被指控四次殺手之後我終於被殺掉了!!!除了遊戲外，我們還
吃了 Nick 特別準備的冰淇淋，果然冰淇淋就是要人多才好吃呀!!!禮拜六我們去
Bike ride & Canoeing。在騎腳踏車到比賽獨木舟的會場時，我在一個轉彎處因為
煞車不及不慎撞到牆壁，我的人瞬間就飛起來並摔到地上!!!我終於懂為什麼偶像
劇或電視劇在人和車相撞後，人會飛出去了!!!若非此次經驗我還一直以為那只是
電視台做的特效，想藉由誇張的動作吸引觀眾目光。超糗的是這一幕還恰巧被我
的一些團員們看到，其實就是因為他們想要看我，讓我分心才撞到的!!!幸運的是，
因為外套的保護，我並沒有受傷。後來到了獨木舟的比賽會場，採取三人一組的
方式，在前、中和後面各坐一個人。前面和後面的人負責划槳和控制行進方向，
中間的人負責穩定重心。這也是我生平第一次划獨木舟!!!由於獨木舟的材質以及
我們是菜鳥的關係，下水時只要稍一晃動，我們就會膽戰心驚深怕掉下水里!!!
比賽剛開始時我們處於一直撞樹和石頭的階段，有些在橋上觀看的美國人還會笑
我們呢!!!划行一趟的時間大概是 45 分鐘，如此高強度的活動讓我的前後兩位團
員累翻了!!!因為你必須拿著槳持續在划，而且到終點之前不能停止，否則就會被
困在江面上了。加上當天太陽又很大，把每個人都曬得昏頭轉向!!!然而，我們還
是憑藉著台灣人奮鬥的精神努力的划回來!!!當地的平面媒體還有報導我們台灣
學生一行 15 人參加獨木舟比賽的趣事，並採訪了我們的團長和團員們呢!!!真是
一次有趣又難忘的經驗。
第三週來臨了。禮拜一是我的母難日，非常感謝我的團員們和 Gary、Ryan
很貼心地提前兩天幫我舉辦生日趴，我想這應該算是我目前最難忘的生日經驗
了!!!這是我第一次在國外過生日，非常有趣、新奇，且令人印象深刻。我們家沒
有過生日的習慣，所以看到大家幫我舉辦生日趴，讓我覺得很感動且很溫馨。禮
拜一我還遇到了一群從成大來的同學們，裡面竟然有我的高中同學!!!這就是所謂
的「他鄉遇故知」嗎？這感覺好奇妙好無法言語！禮拜天我們去芝加哥一日遊!!!
這要感謝 Victory 學長和 Po 學長的安排規劃兼辛苦地當一日司機與導遊，我們才
能去在雙方學校都知情且同意的情況下，以「自費行程」的方式開開眼界！！感
謝兩位學長幫我們精心規畫行程，讓我們看到了芝加哥公牛隊的主場和喬丹雕像、
中國城、吃港式飲茶、有藝術氣息的 Field Museum (博物館)、著名的 Navy pier (海
軍港)、超有趣的 millennium park(千禧公園)、到 Skydeck 體驗超快速電梯和踏出
空中的感覺，最後去吃一家要等一小時以上的 deep dish pizza 店!!!!他們的 pizza
是厚披薩唷!!!在回程的路途，感謝小郭和于瑄妹妹很盡力地跟兩位學長講話，讓
他們能集中精神開四小時的夜車，真是辛苦你們了!!!!
最不想面對的一週悄悄的來了！禮拜五，學校在 Cole commons 辦了一場
Farewell。Betsy 要我們分組準備 presentation，我們這組負責的題目是娛樂。我們
比較了台灣和美國在娛樂方面的差異，介紹一些台灣的特有文化－KTV 和釣蝦
場，最後教他們玩海帶拳和黑白猜!!!每組的報告都很棒，一點都沒有 farewell 的
感覺!!!隔天就要離開了，但我卻一點兒也不想離開!!!美國的生活真的很愜意、很
舒服又很自然，在學校甚至可以躺在草皮上看滿天星斗，在小河流附近看螢火
蟲!!!而台灣的生活則是處在高度壓力且緊張又毫無生活品質的環境。他們對生活
品質很重視!!IPFW 的書店每天關門時間都不同，禮拜五是下午一點就關門了!!!!
這或許是提醒許多台灣的企業要讓員工在工作和休閒之間取得平衡吧！！我們
之後就回去收拾行李，一直很擔心行李超重，害我一直整理整理到凌晨四點!!!
在睡沒幾個小時後就坐上學校準備的大巴士出發到機場。其實在坐車時我還是沒
有要離開的感覺，總覺得就像之前的芝加哥一日行一樣，我們只是來芝加哥參觀
參觀而已。直到坐上了飛機，才不敢相信這事實。我們坐上飛機，準備起飛時，
老天爺下了一個半小時的雨，彷彿是在替我們哭泣一樣，也或許是不希望我們離
開吧!!!回程的飛機感覺飛的很快，沒多久我就踏上了久違的台灣土地，久違的高
雄！在出關領行李時發生了件事，讓我的心情小小的不美麗！我領行李時發現
我的行李袋被人割破了一個大洞，那割痕可以明顯看出是出自於人為，而非天然
的傷口!!!當時我心裡就想：「完蛋了!!我的棒球該不會被偷走了吧!!!!」果然，在
當場檢查時發現我的棒球不見了，回家再檢查一次，發現全部東西都在，只有那
三顆棒球不見了!!!這件事讓我對機場的服務及海關們不是很開心，每個旅客都希
望自己的行李能夠完好無缺，更何況，那三顆棒球對我來說，具有非凡的意義!!!
有一顆是小聯盟送的紀念球，而另外兩顆是要送給別人的禮物!!!他們就因為機場
對員工的教育訓練不足，讓他們對旅客的行李物品產生了不好的念頭!!!我不知道
我的行李到底是在美國還是台灣被割破，我也無從追究。寫這段經驗最主要的目
的是想提醒未來要去學海的學弟妹們，要多多注意行李裡面有無任何貴重物品或
具紀念意義的東西！有些東西或許對你們來說不是很貴重(例如我的棒球)，但對
他們來說卻很有價值！看到這裡有人會問說：「學姊，該不會是你自己的行李看
起來很高檔吧！」我想說的是，我的行李是行李袋而非行李箱，行李袋也是看起
來最不顯眼的那種，重點是還是跟阿姨借來的!!!連我阿姨都覺得很奇怪怎麼會有
人想割破他?!!總之，提醒各位學弟妹們，一切小心為上！

For me, this year is the most wonderful year in my life.
Because this summer, I participated the summer program that I-Shou University
provided to study abroad for a month, a memorable month.
Several months ago, I took the exam of 學海 scholarship with my classmates.
I felt nervous when I was in the exam. I was afraid that I could not pass it. When I
finished the exam, I thought I would not have an opportunity to go abroad. On April
9th, the day of knowing the final result, when I saw my name in the pass list, I cannot
use any words to describe my feeling. I could not believe I pass the exam!!! I could go
to the USA to study for a month. I thought how lucky I was that the miracle
happened to me!!! This is my first time to go to America. I knew I had a lot of things
to do before going to America, such as applying visa, interview in AIT, preparing the
luggage, etc. The most important thing I need to do first is pass the interview in AIT
and get the visa successfully. Although I and another two members met some
problems in the process, we all get the visas finally!! Next, the second thing I need to
do is prepare the luggage. It made me crazy because I didn’t know which things I can
bring it or not. For example, some people said I can bring the instant noodles, others
said I cannot bring it. It made me feel confused. But finally I brought it and it is useful
for me when I miss Taiwan’s food. I really appreciate that everyone’s help and advices
in this period. Thanks for your help, especially my aunts, teachers, parents and
friends. My aunts, thank you for all that you done for me. Not only lent the luggage
to me, but also supported me some travel expenses!!! I was thankful for my teachers.
They gave me some advices and suggestions that made me pass the exam
successfully and get the chance to go abroad. I was thankful for my parents and
friends. They gave me support and encouragements that made me feel exciting in
the unfamiliar and unknown environment. Without your help, I think I would not
have an opportunity to participate in the short-term summer program to go abroad.
Except saying “thank you”, I can’t find any word to describe my appreciation. Thank
you for everyone who help me and love me a lot!!!
When everything was ready, it was time that we go to the airport and take the
plane. We said goodbye to our parents, friends and Taiwan. This is the second time I
go to other country and take the plane. Compared to first time, I didn’t feel that I am
going to leave! I thought maybe I still can’t believe that I am going to America, a
place that everything is big! We needed to transfer in Hong Kong, and we had a
long-distance flight waiting for us….
The Food
In the period of America, we ate different kinds of food. In Monday to Friday, our
lunch and dinner were arranged from school. At lunch time, we enjoyed the special
lunch in Brian’s office. The most favorite food we had eaten was a store called Panda
Express! It is a Chinese restaurant that has many lots of Chinese dishes. We loved the
Chinese dishes very much because it was similar to Taiwanese food!!! It helped us to
eat the familiar food and become a buffer of slowing down the homesick.
At dinner time, we often went to a restaurant called Triangle Park in front of the
school. They were so sweet that prepared a special menu for us. It has various kinds
of dishes, such as steak, rice, noodles, sandwiches, hamburger…etc. Their service
was good. The waiter or waitress would ask you first which drink would you like? And
then they would fill out your glass cup and ask you which meal would you like to eat?
Finally, they would give you the delicious meal. We found two things different from
Taiwan. One is that they will ask you there meal is good or not during the mealtime.
They are care about their quality and service they provided. I think it is a good
sample that Taiwan needs to follow. The other is American’s racial discrimination!!!
We find that the job of white people is to help guests order the meal. However, the
Black one only can do the thing like clear up the tables and plates, they don’t allow to
order meal…..
The American’s food is too salty and too sweet. I didn’t accommodate myself to the
taste. I wondered why the highest prevalence of dialysis in the world is in Taiwan
rather than in America.
The Activity
In America, we participated in many activities that school arranged for us. Such as
International party, leadership, ice cream social at Nick’s house, Baseball
Game-Dinner at Game-Fireworks…etc.
International party
We were very grateful that the international students invited us to attend the activity.
They hoped we can introduce the most representative food in Taiwan. Finally we
decided to introduce the popular beverage in Taiwan－the Bubble tea.
In international party, the students in different countries showed their special food to
other students. We were very happy that our bubble tea was popular with others. I
think that it is another unofficial diplomacy.
Ice cream social
In Wednesday night, Nick invited us to go to their house to participate in the Ice
cream social party. We play a lot of games, I was most impressed with the Mafia, it
called "天黑請閉眼 in Taiwan. I do not know why I have always been considered to
be the killer! I was accused of four killers before I finally killed!!! In addition to the
game, we also enjoyed the ice cream that Nick prepared for us. We are very happy
to enjoy the ice cream with everyone. It is more delicious than usual!!!
The Field trip
In every week, the school arranged several field trips to enrich our life. Such as a tour
of Fort Wayne Museum of Art, watching the parade in Three river festival, visiting the
Allen County Public Library, watching and understanding the different culture in
other country－International Village, enjoying the Bike Ride and Canoeing on Fort
Wayne Bike Trails to the River Games, visiting the Public Television Station, visiting
the Fort Wayne Zoo, going to downtown to have a Summer Trolley Shopping Tour,
and visiting the Allen County Courthouse & the Science Central.
I am thankful for IPFW to plan various field trips that make us undergo the
experience that you will not do it in Taiwan.
The trip to Chicago
On Sunday, we went to Chicago for a day trip!!! We would like to thanks for the
Victory seniors and Po seniors. They arrange the whole schedule and act as drivers
and tour guides. Thanks for the two seniors to help us planning travel, we could see
the main stadium of the Chicago Bulls and statue of Michael Jordan, China Town to
eat Dim Sum, Field Museum, the famous Navy pier, interesting Millennium park,
going to the Skydeck to experience ultra-fast elevator and the feeling of standing in
the air. The last, we went to the deep dish pizza shop to wait the pizza at least one
hour!!!! Their pizza is thick Pizza!! In return journey, thanks for president Guo and Yu
Xuan , they have worked very hard to chat with the two seniors, so that they can
concentrate on the way to school !!!
Farewell
On Friday, the last day we stayed in IPFW, the school held a Farewell in Cole
commons. Betsy divided our class into five groups to prepare presentation. My group
is responsible for the subject of entertainment. We compared the differences
between Taiwan and the United States in the entertainment. We also introduced
some of Taiwan's unique culture-KTV and fishing shrimp. Finally, we taught them
how to play the Kelp and Black-and-white guess!!! Each group presentations are
great. We didn’t feel that it is a farewell!! Next day, we needed to leave. But my
member and I didn’t want to leave!!!
In America, the life is very comfortable and natural. You can lie on the grass to watch
the beautiful stars, and see fireflies near the small river at school!! It is different in
Taiwan. In Taiwan, people usually stay in the environment with high level of stress
and tension, and without the quality of life. I think that Taiwan enterprises should
need to think how to let employees keep balance between work and leisure!!
Thanks/Appreciation
No matter you live in Taiwan or in the United Stated, I really want to say “thank you”
to everyone who help my members and me a lot. Thank you for your efforts to let us
have a wonderful trip in our life. Thank you, everyone I met in IPFW!!!!! I miss you so
much!!!! I hope one day that you will go to Taiwan to have a trip.

回到台灣了，這一切我還很難相信，在美國的一切依舊歷歷在目。
想到幾個月前的今天我才剛拖著行李在小港機場的候機廳等著，腦海中描繪
著未來一個月我在美國的生活。第一次出國、第一次坐飛機，既緊張又期待又興
奮，踏上飛機的那剎那我不停的東張西望，對四周的一切充滿好奇，坐定後，我
身旁的同學半開玩笑，笑嘻嘻的把頭湊過來問我說：「待會要起飛了妳會不會緊
張呀！沒關係不要怕！有我在！」原本不會緊張的我被她這樣一問搞得我好緊張。
離預定起飛時間過了一陣子後飛機才開始慢慢滑動，當飛機離地的瞬間緊張感隨
之被興奮取代，看著窗外熟悉的城市漸漸縮小，有種說不出的感動。由於我點的
的餐點是特別餐的緣故，在機上吃的三餐都是非常健康、不加任何調味的水煮食
物，每每看著隔壁的同學吃的津津有味，甚至還有哈根達斯冰淇淋做為餐後甜點，
我的心裡可是後悔萬分及超級羨慕，每次送餐的時候我都自我解嘲跟其他人說我
點的是減肥餐，還說如果往後一個月在美國餐餐都是吃這樣的話回國我應該就瘦
了，殊不知往後的一個月我們吃都是超鹹、超甜的食物。第一次搭機我最難忘的
經驗是遇到亂流，記得在某次用完餐後不久，我們遇到了一個超可怕的亂流，當
時飛機不停的搖晃，猛然之間垂直下降一段不小的距離，不少乘客開始尖叫，當
下的我超級害怕出什麼意外的，事後跟同團的其他人聊到這件事時，沒想到大家
都跟我有同樣的想法。
坐了十幾個小時的飛機，終於抵達了芝加哥機場，一下飛機，映入眼簾的一
切都是陌生的人事物，四周的英文指標提醒著我：「我在美國了！」從這一刻開
始我們 15 個人要在人生地不熟的美國展開為期四個禮拜的生活了！雖然有些緊
張不安，但從大家臉上露出的笑容可以看出來，每個人都超級興奮，等不及要在
美國探險了！一出關，迎面看到很多人，有些是整個家庭一起來的，他們有一個
共通點就是舉著一塊小板子，上面寫著名字，我想那些應該是來迎接新成員的接
待家庭吧！在那群人中我們看到了一個年輕女子拿著上面寫著「義守大學」的板
子， 她就是學校派來接我們以及往後四個禮拜負責帶領我們的人，她的名字叫
Meg，是當地高中的法文老師。我們一行人迫不及待的托著行李跟在 Meg 後面
準備搭車去學校，Meg 跟我們說學校離芝加哥有段距離，車程約三小時。我們搭
的是超大台的遊覽車，車上還有廁所呢！不過以美國來說這應該是標準尺寸。我
們的司機是一位人很好的老爺爺，一上車他就播乘車的安全教學影片給我們看，
美國好像有規定。看完影片，Meg 發給我們每人一個 IPFW 專屬的小小後背包，
裡面裝著校園簡介、地圖、四週的課表、雨傘，還有美國生活教學攻略？由於搭
了十幾個小時的飛機，再加上有時差，除了沿路停下來讓我們在速食店解決晚餐
是清醒的外，大家在車上幾乎是睡成一片，中途幾次我有醒來，但每次醒來窗外
的景色似乎都一樣，玉米田、玉米田還是玉米田。
搖搖晃晃、搖搖晃晃，晃了好久我們終於到了 IPFW。Meg 先帶我們去 club
house 報到及領鑰匙，我一進到 club house 就被裡面的裝潢及設備嚇到了！地板
全都鋪地毯不說，還有超大螢幕的電視、沙發、桌球桌、撞球桌、桌上型足球台、
健身房，還有廚房及吧檯……等，很難想像這是交誼聽的規格阿！報到完後 Meg
幫我們分配房間，領完鑰匙終於可以入宿啦！IPFW 的宿舍分成好幾棟，有 A~M
棟，分別有單人房、雙人房、三人房及四人房。我們住的是 J 棟四人房，不意外
整棟宿舍地板一樣鋪了地毯，然後每層都有一個交誼廳。原本以為燕巢分部宿舍
已經算非常高級了，殊不知 IPFW 的宿舍更是高級，開門的那瞬間馬上聽到「哇！
哇！哇！哇！」不僅有客廳、廚房、洗衣機、烘乾機連洗碗機都有了，雖然說是
四人房，但每個人的房間都是獨立的，有個人的衛浴設備、超大的彈簧床，還有
整面都是鏡子的衣櫥兼更衣間，在裡面走動跟本不是問題，能有這樣的房間我想
應該是每個女孩的夢想吧！繞了一圈宿舍，每到一個地方都發出「哇」的讚嘆，
這是宿舍嗎？根本太豪華了吧！我家都沒這般規格了。當晚我跟室友們都異口同
聲的說我們不想回去了！
隔天早上，我們到學校附近的餐廳 triangle park 吃早午餐，那間餐廳也是往
後四個禮拜我們解決晚餐的地方。那天我們比預定的時間早到餐廳，在外面等待
的同時看到很多也是來這邊用餐的家庭，他們跟我們一樣都是在等，不過跟我們
不一樣的是他們都是坐在車裡搖下車窗來等，他們沒有開冷氣這點讓我有點意外。
等待時，有些美國人會問我們從哪裡來的，其中有一個老爺爺聽到我們從台灣來
的時候很興奮，因為他說他以前是海軍，年輕時有來過台灣。餐廳的裝潢很有特
色，像電影中會出現的場景，牆壁上掛著的竟然是「武器」，我們還開玩笑的說
會不會哪天我們吃飯吃到一半牆上的武器會掉下來，這家餐廳還有露天的坐位，
旁邊倚著小湖，用餐的同時可以看到鵝在湖裡游來游去，幸運的話還可以看到成
群的松鼠在對岸的草地上跑來跑去呢！星期五的晚上，還有歌手駐唱。那家餐廳
的餐點雖說不上是最好吃的，但那裡的服務態度跟品質則可以說是最棒的。剛去
的前幾天我們都看不太懂菜單，不知道該點什麼，服務生都很有耐心的站在一旁
等我們慢慢看或是跟我們解釋，有一次我們去時還發現桌上放很多沙拉醬，而沙
拉醬旁還放著一張小紙條寫著沙拉醬的名稱，原來這是老闆怕我們不知道沙拉醬
的名稱及嚐起來如何，貼心的為我們準備的。讓我最感動的是我們最後一次到
triangle park 用餐時，一進去就看到餐廳特地為我們準備的蛋糕，上面還用中文寫
著「謝謝，在未來好運」想到這次是最後一次在這裡用餐的感傷的心情再加看到
他們特地做的蛋糕，我都快哭了。
第一天上課老師帶我們參觀校園，校園離宿舍區有段距離，要去上課還要經
過一座橋。在校園裡隨處可見他們的吉祥物—長毛象，據說是因為韋恩堡這個地
方之前有長毛象存在，在某棟教學大樓裡還擺著長毛象的化石呢！我們的上課方
式跟其他遊學團不一樣，我們沒有分班考試，所以是 15 個人一起上課，美國的
教室不像台灣這麼大，一個班級的學生人數也不像我們這麼多，每次上課我們都
要把桌椅圍成圓圈，老師上課方式很多元跟我們也有很多互動，不像台灣上課方
式比較制式化。我們一天上課只有四個小時，每天早上 10 點上課，下午 3 點半
就下課了，除了星期六的活動外，平時週間學校也會安排戶外教學，像是去市區
聽 live band 吃午餐，參觀美術館、圖書館、電視台、動物園、法院大樓、科工館、
看小聯盟……之類的。雖然說學校有發給我們一個月的公車卡，但基本上除了平
時的戶外教學及星期六的活動會用到外，其他時間根本沒機會使用，原本想說星
期日我們可以自己搭公車遊韋恩堡，殊不知星期日跟本就沒有公車，所以如果想
在星期日出遊的話除非是有人願意開車載，否則是不可能的，第一個禮拜我跟幾
個同伴曾經異想天開的要走路去賣場，結果剛走不久就放棄了，天氣太熱是原因，
不過重點是我們根本不知道要走哪條路才能走出宿舍區，虧說我們都 google 好要
在哪個路口轉彎之類的，幸好我們在美國認識的人都很好，他們都願意開車載我
們。
連續兩個星期六我們都是去市區參加當地的 Three Rivers Festival 活動。第一
個禮拜是看遊行，當天我們到時整個街上早已充滿來卡位的人了，不過美國人都
很守秩序，不會有台灣之前燈會那種擠來擠去甚至會爆發口角的場面發生，每戶
人家都自備毯子或椅子，鋪在街道的兩旁或坐或臥，雖然我們比較晚到，但根本
不必擔心視野不好看不到的問題。參加遊行的隊伍主要是以韋恩堡當地的店家及
學校為主，不過遊行中還看到很多車隊，有哈雷機車、名牌車及敞篷車，其中有
個畫面讓我很感動，就是每當美國人看到國旗或是軍人經過時，原本坐著或躺著
的人會馬上起立表示敬意，這點我在台灣根本沒見過。第二個禮拜我們參加的
Three Rivers Festival 的 River Games，有水球戰、獨木舟競速賽、獨木舟障礙賽，
那個禮拜上課時 Besty 有問我們想參加哪個項目，而我們 15 個就像串通好的一樣
全部選了獨木舟競速，而重點是我們當中沒有一個人滑過獨木舟！當天只好硬著
頭皮上囉！那天的行程是安排我們先騎腳踏車到市區的比賽場地，然後再比賽，
我記得我們滑了快一個小時，回去後不僅累癱了還鐵腿鐵手！雖然我們包辦了倒
數幾名，不過這是一個相當難忘的經驗，我很喜歡，比賽的時候還有記者跟電視
台採訪我們，隔天果真上了地方的新聞及報紙。第三個禮拜學校是安排我們到市
區逛街坐假日才有開的”公車”，一開始聽 Besty 講的時候我以為像是舊金山的
噹噹車一樣，所以我很期待，不過當天看到的時候我有點小失望，因為跟我想像
的不一樣，它跟公車有點像，不過它有鮮艷的外觀而內部全是木製的椅子，重點
是司機跟車掌小姐都很熱情，看到我們是華人，一上車就用中文跟我們問好，還
推薦我們可以去哪裡逛。
最後一個星期日，兩個從台灣來的學長開車載我們到芝加哥玩。我們第一站
去了公牛隊的主場 United Center，雖然我不迷 NBA 但想到可以親自踏上公牛隊的
主場仍不免感到興奮，不過我們去的正不是時候，那時候球季正好結束，所以
United Center 不對外開放，我們只好在外面跟麥可喬登的銅像拍照過過癮。我們
第二站去中國城吃午餐順便逛逛，在那邊遇到了慈濟在那邊辦活動，還受到阿姨
的熱情招待，讓我們倍感親切且深刻體會到台灣人的好客。接下來我們還去了芝
加哥博物館、海軍港、千禧公園(之前有巨型瑪麗蓮夢露雕像的地方)、Crown
Fountain。最後我們去了芝加哥最高樓威利斯塔的 Skydeck，那裡也是讓我印象最
深刻的地方，相信有使用 facebook 的人都有看過一張很驚悚的照片，就是有人站
在很高的地方往下看，然後他的底下是透明的，那張照片就是在 Skydeck 拍的！
沒想到我能夠站在 103 層樓往下看，而不再只是透過照片羨慕別人，親自體驗那
種難以言語、居高臨下的感覺。參觀完 Skydeck 後，我們走路去吃來芝加哥必吃
的披薩，沒吃過吃芝加哥披薩等於沒來過芝加哥，芝加哥的披薩跟我們印象中的
披薩不一樣，它的餅皮超厚的，大概有 5~6 公分有吧！這一點都不誇張！要吃它
還必須使用刀叉呢！我記得為了吃到它，我們可是費盡了千辛萬苦。首先，我們
走了超遠超遠的路，好不容易到達目的地後又排了很久才點到餐，點完餐後服務
生又說目前客滿還要等 45 鐘，好不容易有位子了，又等了很久才看到傳說中的
披薩，為了這餐，我們前前後後等了大概 2 個小時有，等到我們吃到披薩時已經
晚上 11 點多了！那時大家已經餓的前胸貼後壁了，不知道是餓太久了還是怎樣，
我覺得那披薩超級美味，吃的瞬間，深深覺得這麼長時間的等待值得了！
四個禮拜或許很長，但對我來說卻顯得特別短，好不容易才融入當地的生活
與他人建立的友誼才剛剛萌芽，卻到了要離別的時刻，還有好多好多事是來不及
完成……在回台灣前我們五個姊妹未能完成一起躺在校園草地上欣賞星空的約
定。旅行就像一段故事，在故事的結局總會留下些許遺憾，耐人尋味。至今仍懷
念那段在美國無憂無慮的時光，夕陽西下(美國太陽大約 9、10 點才會下山)姊妹
們一起在校園漫步、談天，直到月亮升起，螢火蟲與我們相伴。

I can’t believe that I’m in Taiwan because everything in America are still vivid.
Remembered that I sat down at the waiting room and described what my life in
America will be in my mind few months ago. I’m so nervous, expected and a little bit
excited because this is my first time leaving my own country and taking the air plane.
I was curious about everything I saw after I embarked on the air plane, so I walked
and looked around the surrounding. After sitting, my friend beside me who told to
me just for fun. She said “The air plane will take off later, are you nervous? Don’t be
afraid! I’ll by your side.” I didn’t feel afraid at all in the beginning, but I felt a little bit
nervous after she asked me. I couldn’t describe that moment when the air plane was
taking off, I was touched and excited. Especially, I looked out of the window and
everything I’m familiar became smaller and smaller. It took me tens hour to arrive
America by plane, the flight was really tiring. It was an unforgettable experience that
we passed through the violent turbulence when we just finished the meal. The air
plane kept shaking and dropped suddenly, some people started screaming. I was
worried about something happened, but, fortunately, we passed through the
turbulence safely.
When I arrived at Chicago International Airport, everything I saw were strange
to me, and all the signs were written in English reminded me the truth, I was in
America! That truth made me so excited. After we passed the Customs, I saw lots of
people holding signs and written someone’s name on it. I guessed they were
homestay’s hosts waiting for the new member in their family. Then, we saw a girl in
the crowed and holding a sign written I-Shou University. She’s our tutor and picked us
up at the airport, her name is Meg, a high school French teacher. She said IPFW is far
away from Chicago, we had to take a bus to get there and it would take three hours
or more. The bus we took is very huge that I had never seen, it has restroom in it. It’s
amazing to me. Our driver was a kind old man, he played the security video when we
got on the bus. After the video, Meg gave everyone a backpack which had the
umbrella, school schedule, guidebook and so on in it. Due to we were tired and the
jet lag, all of us slept on the way to IPFW.
IPFW is the fifth largest public university in Indiana, and the largest university in
northeast Indiana. The campus is really huge, if you want to walk around the campus,
it may take you about one hour. However, the environment and scenery of campus
are beautiful so it’s easy to you to ignore what the time goes. When you are walking
on the campus, you will see the squirrels in the tree and flocks of geese walking on
the grass or swimming in the river if you were lucky. At night, you could even see the
fireflies. But, you must see the IPFW’s mascot, Mammoth, everywhere. It was said
that the Mammoth had lived in Fort Wayne for long long time ago. Nowadays, you
can see the fossil of Mammoth in the lobby.
The Student Housing is in Waterfield campus, which is different from main
campus. There is a bridge between two campus, it connects school and dorm. We
have to go through the bridge to class everyday and it would take us 10 to 15
minutes. IPFW Student Housing combines the independence of apartment living with
the convenience of living on campus. The Student Housing have 13 buildings, from A
to M. We lived in building J, which are deluxe rooms. Four people lived in the same
apartment but we have the privacy of our own bedroom and bathroom. There are
lots of furniture in our apartment such as sofa, side chairs, full-sized kitchen,
full-sized refrigerator which can hide a person, microwave, oven and so on. It even
provided the garbage disposal and dishwasher that I’d never seen them before. The
most important is there has a large wardrobe in the room, it looks like a every girls’
dream dressing room because it’s large enough to walk-in, and all of its doors are
covered with mirror. The first time when my roommates and I saw our dorm, all of us
said the same word “I don’t want to go home anymore.” Because the dorm is too
luxurious for me to believe that’s just a dorm. It’s much better than my house.
In America, the way of teaching is different from Taiwan. Our teacher, Betsy, she
always asked us sit in a circle during class. She said that it’s easy to her to see
everyone in the class and we also could discuss with each other conveniently. She
not only stood in front of the classroom and just talked but also sat next to us and
had interaction with us. We had four hours English class everyday, but school would
arrange some field trips sometimes. Take some for examples, we went to downtown
listen to live band show, visit art museum, Allen County Public Library, TV station,
Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, Allen County Courthouse, Science Central, watch the
minor league baseball and so on. We took the local festival on the first and second
Saturday in America. The Three Rivers Festival is a long standing tradition for Fort
Wayne Indiana, and it’s the second largest summer festival in Indiana. There are a
bunch of great events you won't want to miss. The points of Three Rivers Festival are
River Games, The Bed Races, and the Lutheran Hospital Three Rivers Parade.
Fortunately, we took part in the Parade and River Games. But I like the River Games
most. The River Games has three events in it, it includes The Great Canoe Race
(speed), Summit City Soaker (Obstacle Course) and Water Wars with water balloons.
All of us chose the Great Canoe Race in the same time. On the game day, we rode the
bicycles to downtown first, and took a break and prepared for a while, then started
the competition. Though we lost the game, we were happy and had the
unforgettable experience. We were even on the local news and newspaper.
The last Sunday, we went to Chicago with two Taiwanese who live in America as
our local tour guide. All of us were so excited, we went to China town, Navy pier,
Millennium park, skydeck, museum and United Center which is the home of the Bulls.
One of my favorite place is skydeck. If you have facebook, you must have seen the
picture that somebody was standing the height place and overlook the city but the
floor of he stood was made of glass. Skydeck is on Willis Tower where is a 108-story,
1,451-foot skyscraper in Chicago. I couldn’t believe that I could see that awesome
scene in person. Words couldn’t even describe how excited I was when I was
standing there.
I’m very thankful for I-Shou to provide that’s chance to me. I won’t forget such a
wonderful experience. Especially, everyone treated us very well. I miss them and the
life in America. At that time, we lived a carefree life and had beautiful scenery by our
side.

去年的我就有參加過學文獎學金，那時是到深圳大學去做交流，短短的一個月下
來，不僅學到他們的風俗文化、想法，甚至也更了解她們的生活習慣。那時我就
立下一個小小的心願，就是我要通過學海獎學金的考試。而很幸運的，我也通過
了學海獎學金的考試，而我選擇了是印第安納普渡大學。
7/7~7/9:七月七號是出發日，我們先在高雄小港機場搭港龍航空到香港機場轉機，
然後再搭乘國泰航空前往芝加哥。搭了近兩個小時的飛機我們到了香港機場，當
我到香港機場時心中有震撼了一下，因為他們的機場很大很寬敞，讓我心中有開
闊的感覺，也逛了一下他們的免稅商店，真是應有盡有啊！而之後就搭乘十一點
多的飛機前往芝加哥，這是一趟漫長的旅程，這算是我有印象以來第一次做那麼
長途的飛機，在飛機上不是吃東西就是睡覺，而飛機上的餐點也很美味，從窗外
看出去景色也很美，經過了十五小時的飛行，我們終於抵達芝加哥，一趟全新的
生活體驗就即將開始了。
入關後，Meg 老師就在接機大廳等我們，老師人很好也很像媽媽幫我們打理生活
的一切，從芝加哥到學校還必須有四小時的車程，一路上大家都因為時差的關係
睡死了，當然我也不例外。沿途的景色和台灣差好多，他們的房屋越接近郊區就
越矮，而且道路都很寬廣，不像台灣的那麼密集，相對的空間也比較小。而之後
到了學校宿舍，我只能說比分部宿舍更高級，有廚房、獨立衛浴、甚至還有更衣
間，簡直是來這裡享受的吧!!!!
7/10~7/12:星期二開始了英文的課程，不外乎就是訓練聽力以及表達能力，而表
達能力也算是我們較欠缺的，畢竟要在當地說出當地的語言心理多少都會有點畏
懼。而經過這三天的課程以及和一些美國學生的對談下，我真的覺得自己的聽力
有更進步，而且懂得部分也越來越多了。
7/14:這天大家起了個大早，一起搭 3 號公車到韋恩堡的 downtown 參加一年一度
的大遊行，遊行從十點開始到近十二點結束，這遊行很新鮮，而且民眾跟遊行者
都展現出他們無比的熱情，使盡力的揮手、表演，而他們臉上依然是散發出無比
燦爛的笑容。而中午吃飽後我們就做八號公車到 glenbrook mall 去購物，雖然等
公車等了好一陣子，這就是沒車的悲哀啊!最後我們還是等到公車去到了 mall，
那裏是一個很大的商場，隔壁連接著 macy’s，macy’s 也是一個大型的購物商場，
而去到 glenbrook mall 的主要目的就是買一些在台灣較貴或是台灣沒有的美國品
牌，像是 hollister、forever21 還有 Abercrombie &fitch，當然我也買了不少，而到
這個不說國語的地方，買東西、問路都要用英文，這對我而真是個極大的挑戰阿，
快要一個禮拜了，我還是不太敢跟外國人說話，只能說，有了環境還是需要時間
來培養啊！
7/18:今天早上還是例行的上課課程，有聽和說。中午到 Brain 的辦公室吃炸雞，
接著下午我們搭三號公車到 downtown 的市立圖書館，這個圖書館和台灣的圖書
館非常不一樣，它非常大，而且有提供很多台的電腦供民眾使用，而也一個個不
同學群或是年齡將圖書館分成一區一區的，這讓使用者更容易且能迅速的找到所
需的用書。很特別的地方有，在圖書館的地下室有一個工作室是專門製作電子書
的部門，我們也看到許多員工正在上傳電子書，而解說員說這是因為政府希望能
讓大家更方便的得到資料，最重要的是它是免費的，只要想學習大家都有機會。
除此，這圖書館也讓我覺得像小型博物館，因為在地下室還有一個地方保存一些
林肯總統的文物，像是手稿、紙鈔以及演講台等等在加上解說員的解說能讓我們
對林肯總統更加了解，這趟表面看似無聊的”圖書館”之旅，其實讓我們獲益良多。
而晚上我們也到 Nick 的家參加 ice cream social 的活動，這也是我第一次踏入美
國的房子，我一直覺得美國的房子好浪漫，住家幾乎都是建立在草皮上，而 Nick
的家當然也不例外囉，後面甚至還有個小庭院和盪鞦韆呢，如果心情不好時在這
必定會放鬆許多，接著是玩一些團康活動、吃冰淇淋，很謝謝 Nick 幫我們準備
的這些活動，讓我們更加貼入美國的生活。
7/19:這天早上我們參加一個學校舉辦的國際領袖領導營，是一起和 IPFW 的頂尖
學生參與這個活動，雖然他們都是外國人，但是經過這幾天的英文課後，對於說
英文也不會那麼緊張、畏懼了，經過自我介紹及寒暄問候，就開始今天的活動了，
而這活動就是要考驗團隊的合作，利用棉花糖、牙籤及軟糖去建造一個越高越好
的高塔，而組員必須有一個矇眼，一個只能說中文，一個只能說話手不能動、一
個只能用單手，看似簡單的遊戲其實一點都不簡單，如果沒有利用每個人的長處
在加上溝通協調，高塔就很容易突然倒掉，雖然我們不是建最高塔的，但是我們
贏在高塔的穩定度及團隊的合作，我想這樣的實際操作是我在台灣很少看到的，
因為常常都只是”教”但卻少了實際應用，而我也認識了一些美國學生，有 Lydon、
Holly….等等，他們人都非常親切，這也算是遊學的大收穫吧！
7/21:這一天 Meg 帶著我們騎腳踏車到 downtown，沿著腳踏車步道騎，一路上
的風景美不勝收，我們還經過舊的韋恩堡，騎了大概半個多小時我們到達要划獨
木舟的地方。路途不算累也不算太遠，畢竟美國是這麼大啊!一點時開始進行獨
木舟的比賽，但我們把這活動當成樂趣，並沒有要競賽的意思，畢竟這是我們第
一次划阿!我和 Sapphire 和 Effie 一組，我們都很緊張因為根本都沒有經驗，比賽
一開始我們還掌握不到划獨木舟的絕竅，所以硬生生的往湖邊划去，當然也撞到
湖邊的樹幹和樹支，岸上的人雖然都在笑我們，不過還是一直幫我們加油，慢慢
的我們也掌握到絕竅了，一開始我們以為是船頭的人控制方向，後來才知道是船
尾的人阿，但也因此我們亂撞的機會越來越少，划獨木舟來回花了將近 45 分鐘，
划槳划得很賣力在加上炙熱的太陽，只能說熱慘也累慘。但最有意義的地方是我
們三個靠著合作完成這項活動，雖然我們是最後一名，但我們很快樂！
7/29:自從我們來到 IPFW 後，我們大家都說一定要到芝加哥這個大城市走一走，
畢竟印第安納州只是芝加哥的一個小洲罷了，但隨後因為交通時間的問題，我們
也漸漸放棄去芝加哥玩了。很開心的是，這裡有一個學長也是台灣人，他說來到
這不去芝加哥玩玩就等於沒來過，所以他就幫我們安排了一日遊的行程，且花費
只要一百元美金。這天我們六點半從 IPFW 出發，開了將近三個半小時我們抵達
芝加哥，我覺得路途不算遙遠，畢竟美國是這麼的大啊！第一站我們去了芝加哥
公牛隊的主場館，一直對於籃球很熱愛的我，更別說 NBA 了，來到這根本是讓
我雀躍無比，而正門外有一座大雕像是 Michael Jordan 的雕像，因為他曾是公牛
隊的球員。很可惜的是，現在剛好是球季結束的時間，所以我們只能在外面拍拍
照，但是內心卻還是很激動，畢竟這裡是多少 NBA 球星的出入之地啊！接著我
們到了 Chinatown，顧名思義這裡都是鄉國中國人居多，有總回到去年在大陸的
感覺，中午我們到港式茶餐廳去吃飯，這又讓我回到去年去香港的情景了……。
雖然這段期間吃了那麼多不同的飲食，但我終究還是懷念台灣的食物，好吃又便
宜。接著我們又到了博物館看展覽，我們看的是成吉思汗的展覽，這和在台灣看
展覽的最大不同是，你身邊全都是外國人，而且他們的簡介全都是英文，我想這
也是一個增加英文能力的好時機。緊接著，我們到了位於密西根湖畔的 navy pier，
這是個海軍碼頭，現在是個多功能娛樂中心，有遊樂場、餐飲店、兒童博物館，
甚至可以搭船出遊，享受芝加哥的天際線。礙於時間緊迫的關係，我們沒有搭船
出遊也沒有坐上摩天輪俯瞰整個湖景和夜景，但當下那種享受的感覺實在是溢於
言表。接著我們去吃到芝加哥必吃的手工披薩，雖然讓我們等了一陣子，但是當
pizza 上桌的那一刻，那厚厚的餅皮加上完美的配料，早就讓不耐煩拋到腦後。
而最讓我興奮的就是我們去 Willis Tower 的 skydeck，它共有 108 樓(442M)，觀景
台在 103 樓，搭乘電梯大約 60 秒鐘就可以抵達，速度相當之快。而這也讓我想
起去年我去廣州塔時，只有到 344.8 公尺高而已，所以這次又足足高了 100 公
尺，而且最大差異是在 skydeck 有四個 ALL- GLASS BOX，也就是四面都是
玻璃的箱子，讓你可以站在裡面，腳底懸空，就如同站在空中一般。站出去那一
刻，心裡真是既期待又怕受傷害，超級怕玻璃突破掉然後掉下去的那種感覺……
還好一切都很平安。雖然只有短短的一天芝加哥，但真的讓我又更開眼界，不僅
可以享受腳底懸空俯瞰整個市區美景，也對於各地區更多了解，更重要的是，我
的心境視野變得很廣大，多到世界走走便會發現到處都是新玩意、隨處都能打動
你的心房……。

成長很多也讓英文更上一層樓。讀萬卷書不如行萬里路，這趟芝加哥以及 IPFW

Last year,I participated in a Literary scholarship.That time, I went to the Shenzhen
university to do the exchange. I learned their customs, culture, ideas, and even more
about their habits during a month. At that time, I set a small wish is that I must pass
the English exam. Luckily, I passed Xuehai scholarship exam, and finally I selected
Indiana University-Purdue University University in Chicago.
7/7~7/9: July 7 was a departure date, our group gathered at the Kaohsiung Xiaogang
airport at about six o'clock.About eight o’clock,we took Dragonair airline to Hong
Kong international airport for transit. Hong Kong international airport was very
spacious and also have many different kinds of duty-free shops. Nearly eleven
o'clock,we took Cathay Pacific to Chicago. It was really a long journey for
me,because it took fifteen hours to reach the destination.I ate snack,watched movies
and sleep during these time. The scenery outside the window was very spectacular.
After a long time,we finally landed at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.After
enter a country, we saw a woman whose hands holding a sign that wrote”Isu
students”was waiting for us.She was our teacher who called Meg.She was very kind
and humorous.She told us that drive from Chicago to IPFW must take four hours.
After all, the land of the United States is very large. Along the way, we fell asleep
because of the jet leg.Of course,I was. The scenery along the way was very different
from Taiwan. The city's buildings are tall and spectacular,however, houses in the
suburbs usually have only two floors. After arrived at the school dormitory, I can only
say that is more advanced than Isu’s dormitory. There is a kitchen, a separate
bathroom, and even a dressing room.It was a big surprise for us and we all did our
best to make good use of it.
7/14: There are many different, special and tranditional festivals in Taiwan.But do you
have ever heard about”Three River Festival”?I don’t think so. Today,Meg took us to
the”Three River Festival”.It’s special because this majestic festival is a not-for-profit
organization established in 1969,brings nine days of July family-friendly fun to the
heart of downtown Fort Wayne. Three River Festival receives no government
funding,earning its entire annual budget from souvenir sales,event
fees,refreshments&entertainment tickets and the generous sponsorship of area
business.At ten o’clock,we saw the parade which including helicopters , police patrol
cars and many clubs.The parade is new to me because I never see this kinds of
activities in Taiwan.After the end of the parade,we went to the restaurant to have a
lunch,I ordered fried rice because I missed hometown foods so much….After the
meal,we got on the bus and went to the “Glenbrook mall”for shopping.We are all
excited because they have some of brands that Taiwan don’t have.Macy’s is also a big
and famous shopping mall which is next to the Glenbrook mall in Fort
Wayne.Regrettably,we don’t have enough time to visit it but I still have lots of fun in
Glenbrook mall.The main purpose is to buy some America brands like
Abercombie&Fitch ,Hollister,forever21……,the most important things is they are
cheaper in here,so I bought several clothes.When I came here,is a place don’t speak
Mandarin,it is really a big challenge for me because if you want to ask for directions
or buy somethings you can only speak English.I think this is the reason why I came
here.Although at first I can’t express myself very well,I will still keep practicing my
English.After all,”where there is a will there is a way”.
7/18:This morning still had class that include speaking and listening.After class,we
went to Brain’s office to ate fried chickens as a lunch.After finished the lunch,we took
No.3 bus to the downtown for the library tour.The Allen County Public Library has
been part of the social and cultural fabric of Fort Wayne, Indiana and surrounding
communities since 1895. Then known as the Fort Wayne Public Library, it served
residents with 3606 volumes in a room in City Hall. Since then it has grown to consist
of the main library in downtown Fort Wayne and thirteen branches in the city and
outlying communities.The most special things is that library’s basement has a place
where store some of President Lincoln's heritage, such as manuscripts, banknotes and
lectern with announcer commentary allows us to learn more about President
Lincoln.This tour seemingly boring, in fact, we learned a lot.After that,we went to the
Nick’s house for the activity of the ice cream social,it’s also the first time we entered
the house of the United States. I have always felt that the U.S. house are romantic,
homes are almost built on the grasslands.Of course,so does the Nick’s house.There
also have a small courtyard and swing behind the house,in here,it will help you to
relax when you have a lot of pressure or you are in the bad mood.Then we played
some group activities and also had ice cream, it’s very grateful to Nick because he
planned these activities so that we can get more closer to life in the United States.
7/21:Today,Meg took us to the downtown to join the activities of “Three River
Festival”.But this time we neither take a bus nor by car,we went there by
bicycle,along the bike trails it had beautiful scenery .We also passed through the old
Fort Wayne. This is an old ruins,the buildings are also very special. After riding for
about half an hour,we arrived the place where we have a canoeing.The weather could
not have been better on the river Saturday afternoon for the RiverGames near the old
Wells Street Bridge on the St. Marys River.The games, presented by Frontier
Communications as part of the Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival,
featured a recreational canoe race, as well as a more serious competition in a U.S.
Canoe Association-sanctioned event. It was the second year for the event at its current
location,so we are very lucky. We do not have any experience about Canoeing,so we
just want have fun during the games. At first, we did not catch the knack, so we have
been hit the tree many times. Gradually, we found the method of control over the
direction, therefore,we finished this activity successfully and also had lots of fun.This
event took about forty-five minutes.Although it’s really hot and exhausted,we worked
together to finished this activity.
7/29: Since we came to IPFW, we said we must go to the biggest city –Chicago to
take a look. Indiana, after all, just a small state in Chicago Bale.Later,because of
time,traffic and money, we gradually gave up to go to Chicago.After a few days,the
happy thing happened, a Taiwanese seniors said he can take all of us to the Chicago
by van. He helped us arrange a day trip and spent only U.S. $ 103. This day we
departured from IPFW at six thirty in the morning. We spent about three and a half
hours to Chicago. It is probably the time of Tainan to Taipei. I thought the road is not
far away, after all, the United States is so big!First, we went to the main stadium of
the Chicago Bulls. The mood was very excited for me because I love basketball very
much, not to mention the National Basketball Association. This main stadium is called
“United Center”,which is an indoor sports arena located in Chicago, Illinois.Besisdes,
the east side of the stadium features statues of Michael Jordan which is known as
"The Spirit". Unfortunately, now is the time of the end of the season,so we only took
some pictures outside. Nevertheless, I am honored to be here in my life. Then, we
went to the famous attractions-Navy Pier. It is a 3,300-foot long pier on the Chicago
shoreline of Lake Michigan. It’s primary purpose was as a cargo facility for lake
freighters, and warehouses were built up and down the Pier. However, the Pier was
also designed to provide docking space for passenger excursion steamers, and in the
pre-air conditioning era parts of the Pier, especially its outermost tip, were designed to
serve as cool places for public gathering and entertainment. The Pier even had its own
streetcar. Today, Navy Pier is Chicago's number one tourist attraction. I am very proud
that I was able to come to this place. In addition to these,the most memorable thing
for me is Willis Tower,which is also called Sears Tower is a 108-story, 1,451-foot
skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. The Sears Tower observation deck, called the Skydeck,
located on the 103rd floor of the tower, it is 1,353 feet above ground and is one of the
most famous tourist attractions in Chicago. We can experience how the building
sways on a windy day. We can see far over the plains of Illinois and across Lake
Michigan to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin on a clear day. In January 2009, the
Willis Tower owners began a major renovation of the Skydeck, to include the
installation of retractable glass balconies, extending approximately four feet over
Wacker Drive from the 103rd floor. The all-glass boxes allow visitors to look through
the floor to the street 1,353 feet below. For me, standing on the inside of the glass box
was very horrible, fearing the glass will be broken and I will fall from 1353
meters...,finally,I can only say that I think too much. Although only a short day in
Chicago, it really widen my horizon and everywhere can impress my heart . In
conclusion, I'd like to thank ISU and IPFW for all you've done for me, these
wonderful life left unforgettable memories in my life.
2012 學海獎助學金心得—IPFW

2012 的暑假對我來說十分不一樣也特別有意義。一來是因為就讀學系的關
係我們在明年學年結束後，也就是從 7 月開始就必須到各個單位實習，所以這將
是我人生中最後一個能夠無憂無慮待在家的暑假；二來是我在這個暑假頭一次搭
這麼久時間的飛機並且也是我第一次踏上傳說中的美國。
用傳說中的美國來形容好像太誇張了!但對我來說這次的經驗真的是我從未
想過的!在就讀義守之後我就注意到學校設立了學文和學海獎助學金提供我們機
會到中國和歐美澳等地參觀學習，去年我利用了優秀新生的資格參加學文團到了
溫州醫學院，而我則是因為參加了英語夏令營所以才有機會報考學海的甄試。而
我當時感到十分緊張，因為我知道如果這次的真是沒通過那我就沒辦法再有第二
次機會了!最後幸好順利通過了甄試，而我也幸運的在說明會中拿到了我最理想
團別的號碼牌，我選擇了印第安納普渡大學韋恩堡校區。
當身邊的朋友詢問我要到哪所學校什麼地方，往往我說出答案後她們還是一
頭霧水，但這並不意外其實我也從來沒聽過印地安納普渡大學、也沒聽說過叫韋
恩堡的地方。美國這個大地方我們往往最常聽到的就是紐約、波士頓、芝加哥和
洛杉磯等大城市，而美國五十二個州最耳熟能詳的也是那幾個。在行前我先上網
了解印第安納州韋恩堡這個地方，發現他的緯度和台灣差不多，所以當地氣候我
們應該能適應。還有原來韋恩堡是印地安納州第二大的城市，我們校區離市中心
並不遠，在了解這些事情之後原先的擔心就少了一大半。
從香港到芝加哥飛行時間約十四個小時，長時間飛行真的很折磨人阿!而且
前往芝加哥的途中遇到幾次亂流，才體驗到原來遇到亂流是這種感覺。再不斷重
複吃飯、睡覺、看電影這三件事之後我們終於抵達了芝加哥機場。一下飛機步入
號稱全球最忙碌的芝加哥機場一瞬間我才真的有種”天啊!我真的到了美國!!”的
感覺。一準備要入關的時候也很令人緊張，深怕移民官問的問題我聽不懂或是表
達不夠好，到時造成誤會那就麻煩大了。畢竟之前也會耳聞大家說美國安檢十分
嚴格，有任何讓他起疑的地方都會把人帶進小房間或居留什麼的。不過幸好我們
全團十五個人都順利的過關，也有人說他的移民官還特別跟他多聊兩句。領完行
李我們一出境就看見手拿 IShou 牌子的女生，他就是我們接下來一個月負責帶我
們的 Meg。
從芝加哥機場到 IPFW 還要 4 小時的車程，因為那時正逢芝加哥的下班時間
所以路上車流量十分的大。路上塞車我們也只能一直走走停停，長途搭機再加上
車程讓我感覺更暈更不舒服，但是即便如此我還是硬撐著努力張大眼睛伸長脖子
想看看窗外的風景，我記得外頭的景物就只能用好多好大來形容!公路上除了一
般我們在台灣常見的小轎車還有我覺得很特別的卡車，那些造型特殊的卡車在公
路上行駛看起來就像是電影變形金剛裡的畫面。而當時路邊也有很多一望無際的
玉米田，後來才知道原來印第安那州的農業就是以玉米為主。那時候公路經過芝
加哥市區我們看見的是一棟又一棟的高樓，心裡面真的不敢相信那些在電影裏頭
出現的場景建築物就這樣活生生地呈現在我眼前!在車上 Meg 發給我們第一份
IPFW 給我們的見面禮；一個印有學校圖騰和字樣的束口後背袋裡裝著學生手冊、
行程表、還有把學校的雨傘，內容感覺很豐富。休息睡了一會終於我們到達的
IPFW 的 student housing，也就是我們未來要生活一個月的宿舍。
進入宿舍區之後車上其他的同伴們不約而同地發出微微的讚嘆聲，好美式的
建築物阿!簡約但又不失質感，米白色的步道兩旁是綠草地，還有一條河和幾座
橋以及籃球場、沙灘排球場和涼亭。車子停妥後外面站了兩男一女想必是接待我
們的學生吧?!進入宿舍(後來才知道原來他不是宿舍而是 club house)裡面 RA(宿舍
管理員)向我們大約說明一下宿舍裡的規則及注意事項，完畢之後大家都顯露出
疲態，帶著個人行李跟隨 Meg 及那三位學生的腳步前往我們所居住的 I 棟。進到
大家各自的宿舍還有房間每個人的精神又稍微恢復了活力，因為裏頭的設備、裝
潢擺設真的十分的良好甚至是高級!我們的宿舍型態是一間公寓裡有開放式廚房，
小吧台、四張吧台椅。廚房旁邊是個小客廳，擺放茶几和沙發椅。而我們有四間
套房大家都有各自的房間及衛浴。稍微參觀過大家都對學校所提供的宿舍讚不絕
口，而且學校還替我們準備了貝果、餅乾零食和水果對我們十分照顧。我們也很
感激!在一切都大概安頓好我們也終於能夠洗個澡，好好休息一下恢復體力，明
天星期天的 Meg 安排了早午餐。
這間名叫 Trangle Park 的餐廳是位於離我們宿舍區不遠的地方，它也和 IPFW
合作，所以我們的行程表上有很多次晚餐都是在這家餐廳用餐。在早午餐席間我
們認識了另一位老師 Mike 他為人十分風趣!而我們也正式向彼此自我介紹，這時
候也是考驗大家記憶名字的功力。這次到美國來目的當然是為了增進我們的英語
能力，所以這次在餐廳要先閱讀懂菜單之後再向服務生點餐。這都是我們第一次
在全英語環境下點餐當然大家都很緊張，果然想要享受美味的早午餐是沒那麼容
易阿!下午的行程到量販店採買我們未來所需的食材或日常用品等，雖然在台灣
也有逛過量販店但在異國就是特別不同。看到架上陳列的有許多我們未見過的商
品，當然也有我們看過的這時候大家就會比價看誰比較便宜。這個 gorcery
shopping 是我們到美國後第一個需要我們自費的行程，所以到了收銀台要結帳的
時候大家也開始對美金的面額使用一頭霧水，還有含稅這件事感到比較不習慣。
回宿舍的途中為我們開車陪我們的 student leader 也一邊向我們介紹沿途上一些
餐廳或商店，採買完東西我們回到了宿舍。我們在美國的第一個周末結束了，明
天即將開始我們為期四週的課程!
周一一早我們在 I 棟的交誼廳見到了我們的班導師 Betsy，之後我們步出宿
舍邁向校區開始校園導覽讓我們好好認識這所美麗的學校。豔陽下午我們參觀了
學校旁一個植物中心，美國人對於植物栽種大多很有興趣但在家中卻苦無空間，
於是發展出屋頂放盆栽或是向這種的植物園區申請一塊土地栽種蔬果，有人會照
料你的植物；當然當你放假閒暇之餘就可以和全家大小一起過來享受大自然的樂
趣。慢慢我們走訪了各個學院大樓也知道了我們之後上課的教室地點，午餐時間
都固定在 Brian 辦公室裡吃飯，秘書 oviana 每天都幫我們準備好各樣美味可口的
午餐有 subway、pizza、炸雞、中國菜、義式料理和墨西哥料理，真的很感謝他
們如此照顧我們讓我們每次都很期待午餐時間。也是因為天天在辦公室裡吃飯所
以我們和辦公室裡的職員都培養了很好的感情，後來要離開了我們都真的很捨不
得!
在這短短的四個禮拜裏頭，我們從一開始的不敢大方開口說英語和別人交談，
到後來能和其他學生聊天分享交流彼此國家和生活的文化。謝謝 Betsy 十分用心
的了解我們每個人對於想學英語的需求後為我們安排一系列課程，除了在教室裏
頭的學習，我們也走出戶外由老師帶領我們搭著公車參觀了當地的圖書館、博物
館、兒童動物園、青少年科學中心還有參加當地的 three river’s festival，或是和
其他當地學生一起參加訓練營或 party 等。還有 student leader 們也很別出心裁的
帶我們體驗美國學生平時的休閒娛樂，這些都讓我們對美國的瞭解更多一點!四
個禮拜的時間真的過得好快，當我們開始對於環境適應之後卻也已經到了要回台
灣的時間。儘管如此我們確實擁有了一個很充實而且美好並且也讓我們回味無窮
的經驗，也帶回了很多紀念品很多回憶。謝謝學海助學金給我們這麼棒的機會開
拓視野，也因為這個契機讓我有了未來還要到更多地方旅行學習的想法，希望未
來能再回到這片土地再好好體驗更多不同的事物!
2012 IPFW

Since I known that I passed the exam and I got the chance to visit the U.S.A, I will
never forget that moment. On the orientation, my friends and I were so nervous
about that if we couldn’t choose the place we want to visit. Fortunately, all of us can
go to our ideal school.
When we waiting for the flight at the Kaohsiung international airport everyone
looked like a little tired maybe since all of
us were got up early but I could feel the delight of everyone. And it’s interesting for
me to see the US dollars, I thought it might be complicated. After transferred at the
Hong Kong international airport and took a long trip about 14 hours we finally
arrived at Chicago airport.
Before we leave I heard a lot of things about United states and it also contains
that some people had troubles or couldn’t pass when they during the check, so we
were very nervous! It’s a place without any Chinese if I can’t express the mean
correctly maybe I will get in trouble! Anyway, I waited in line with the form and
anxiety and the thing seemed not such bad as what I thought because I entered
successfully! Went out the gate we found a lady hold a board with a word ‘I-Shou’,
we knew that the lady must be the person to pick us up.
Her name is Meg and one thing surprised me was she is a teacher rather than a
student. Although I was so tired after the long time flight but I still tried hard to open
my eyes and watch the views. When we passed by the Chicago city, there are so
many skyscrapers and the scene is so amazing I was shocked by the things in front.
On the way to IPFW, we took a nap. About 4 hours ago, we finally arrived at the
student housing. When I saw the views from windows I was very excited and glad, we
smiled and praised cause of the beautiful place and I think it must be great to live in
here. I can imagine that will be how wonderful of our life in next 4 weeks!
Entered the club house I saw the facilities like pool table, table tennis table and
treadmill and the RA orientated the rules of student housing. We got the key and
went to our apartment in building I. The house is so nice! Everyone was very exciting
of this and we couldn’t wait to look around everywhere, we just like a group of kids,
very curious about everything. But we were really tired so we were not be too
excited to sleep and the other reason was we were going to have a brunch with new
people
We had a brunch at Triangle Park, a totally American style restaurant as what I
imagined. The restaurant just next to our student housing, we could get to there
without any transportation. Besides, Triangle Park cooperated with IPFW so we had
many times to have our dinner there. I think it was the first challenge and a thing to
learn to us since we arrived. Because it was our first time to visit USA and all of us
had no experience of ordering in English. The waiters in American restaurants will ask
you what drinks you want to have at the beginning, it’s a little different from Taiwan.
I remember that we were very surprised when we saw the menu for I-Shou and
everyone was looking for the words on the menu try to find out the words we know.
Once I had a tea time at a cafe and the order I had was “eggs benedict”, and it tasted
great so when I saw the name on the menu I decided to have it as my brunch. Some
members had no idea and I told them that my experience of eggs benedict so some
people order it too. We met Mike in the brunch time and I think he’s very nice and
when I confused about the side dishes, he recommended me hash browns and it
really tasted good! Finally, we ordered in English successfully and we had a great
brunch.
The next place we were going to grocery shopping in order to let us have
breakfast on our own. We usually learn most of things of USA from movies or series
so we know that American usually have grocery shopping once a week, It’s
interesting to me. We went to meijei, by the way, the pronunciation is special. We
took toast, ham, eggs and fruits like cherries and strawberries. On the shelves we
saw some snacks or products that we have seen in Taiwan, but something's price is
not as expensive as in Taiwan. After we picked all the things we needed, it's time to
pay and the second challenge we were facing. I think the US dollars are very different
from the NT dollars, we had to recognize penny, dimes, quarter and it's hard in a
short time. Fortunately, Meg, Mike and our student leaders helped us so we could
use the machine to scan the price and pay.
Today was our first day of the learning program, we met Betsy, our teacher at
the lobby, we looked around the campus first. After we visited the each classrooms
we will have class there, we came to Brian’s office. We almost had lunch every day at
office, the staff there are very nice! They prepared the lunch for us, every day we
could have different of food as our lunch; besides, they assisted us practicing English,
we had a good time to talked with them. Finished lunch and we were going start our
first class in USA.
Betsy collected our opinion about learning English, planned class for us. We
drew a picture about what we like or the image in a book and introduce it in English, I
think the way is very helpful, we really practiced English a lot. But learning shouldn’t
just stay in the classroom, so we went to the library, zoo, science center, museum and
we also learn the culture in America from the locals. I really like the parade of the
three rivers festival! Not only because those people were dressed in special look but
also because I was touched by those cute people’s effort to this annual festival.
In our schedule we had many opportunities to meet other Americans and we
knew more about their way of life. We had parties with American students and we
also visited nick’s house, it’s really American style. It was my first time to hear “ice
cream social”, it was very funny, I do have a good time with nick’s. With those
American students, we talked about the food, architectures, traffic, weather,
education and something else in our country, share our culture and experiences.
We couldn’t get to anywhere except Fort Wayne originally due to some reasons.
But after we asked teachers and they allowed us to visit Chicago. Thanks to two
Taiwanese, Victor and Paul, they took us to Chicago and planned for us. Every spots I
liked very much! Although we could spend only one day on Chicago, but we really
had a wonderful Sunday. We went to United Center, of course we took pictures with
Michael Jeffrey Jordan’s statue. And we had dim sum as our lunch in china town,
visited museum, the bean and Skydeck. These places are very popular and have so
many tourists there. The last place we went to the famous pizza house in Chicago, it’s
delicious and I still miss it now.
It’s not easy to say everything I had in Chicago, but only I can say is I will never
ever forget these! I learned not only English but also different thoughts, cultures, the
most important is I met these people. Although we came back, we still keep in touch
and I really like them and miss them so much. Thanks to my school, I-shou University,
I had the chance to make my dream come true. After this experience, I’m looking for
some information about study aboard or working and traveling. I found that it’s very
interesting and meaningful to look around the world. I hope I can visit other
countries and go back to IPFW again!
2012 學海遊學 美國印第安納普渡大學團 中文心得報告

從一進入義守大學，就非常嚮往可以藉由學海獎學金完成自己出國
遊學的夢想，而當這個夢想成真的時候，實在是非常的興奮又期待。
7 月 7 日我們這 15 人就從小港機場揮別台灣，準備在飛機上度過漫
長的 13 小時，而等待我們的就是-----廣大的美國。
一出芝加哥機場，就見到了我們美麗的帶團老師 Meg，Meg 簡單的
自我介紹及認識我們一下後，便說我們要搭乘 4 個多小時的車去 IPFW，
這對做了半天飛機的我們來說真是一大打擊。但坐車時並不感覺疲憊，
反而非常興奮，因為我們終於踏上了美國，沿途的風景也很不同於台
灣，所以我們大家就已經拿著相機對著窗外瘋狂拍照了。
一進入 IPFW 的宿舍，我們一群人陷入瘋狂，設備跟五星級飯店差
不多，非常寬敞、有自己的衛浴設備、廚房、冰箱、洗碗機、洗衣機
等等，應有盡有。隔天，Meg 就帶著我們去 Grocery Shopping 採買我
們這三到四天的早餐及生活用品。一個禮拜內最多會安排兩次
Grocery Shopping，也可以視情況而定。周一至周五每天會由 Betsy 上
4.5 個小時的英語課程，晚餐若沒有特別的活動，都會在學校旁邊的
Triangle Park 用餐，美國人的食量真的比我們大很多，餐前會有麵包、
飲料、和兩個前菜，接下來才上主菜，服務生的服務也非常好。
很幸運的，我們到達的第一個禮拜，就是 Fort Wayne 的 Three Rivers
Festival，因為 Fort Wayne 是三條河流的交界，因而有這個維持三到
四個禮拜的節慶。多虧了 Three Rivers Festival 讓我們看到遊行，這場
遊行很盛大，每個在偉恩堡的團體都會上街遊行，有一整列的警車、
重型機車、跑車、學校樂隊，啦啦隊等，當然也不外乎 IPFW 囉!我們
還自己騎腳踏車，沿著腳踏車道，從 IPFW 騎到 Downtown 去玩
canoe(三個人一組的划舟競賽)腳踏車道非常漂亮，沿路都有木板組成
的車道，而旁邊就是波光粼粼的湖，而且騎車的時候一點也不覺得熱，
因為有綠樹遮蔽，在偉恩堡騎腳踏車真的是很享受的一件事。我們
15 個人幾乎都是第一次玩 canoe，第一次玩就要和外國人競賽，令我
們既興奮又緊張，不過槍聲一響我們就被遠遠的拋在後面了，但我們
還是很自得其樂，奮力的划完全程，甚至還上了當地的小報，報上說
有台灣的學生來參加這次的活動，我們大家都很引以為傲。
在課程時間內 Betsy 安排我們參觀了偉恩堡的美術館、圖書館、動
物園、法院、電視台等地方，讓我們更了解當地的文化，甚至還有解
說員為我們解說。在圖書館裡我們還去了林肯博物館，裡面收藏了林
肯肖像、照片、親手寫的書信、甚至他坐過的椅子。而法院也令我映
像特別深刻，法院裡金碧輝煌，裏頭的每一幅畫都有他相徵的意義及
歷史，氣氛也很莊重。在動物園我們看了海獅秀，動物園很大分了很
多區域，非洲區、澳洲區、家禽區，很多動物都跟台灣很不一樣，最
特別的是，還會有孔雀在大街上走路一點也不怕人，動物園裡有纜車
可以坐和小船可以搭，都可以邊做邊欣賞風景及動物。
晚餐時間偶爾會有特別的活動，會和美國的學生一起吃晚餐和玩一
些小遊戲。Nick 邀請我們到他們家開 Ice cream party，party 中有很多
朋友一起參加， 我們邊吃冰淇淋、草莓、手工餅乾，一邊玩紙牌遊
戲，這次的活動很特別，因為我們徹底體驗到美國的當地家庭生活，
也參觀了他們的房子及庭院，真的就如同點影裡演的一樣，很溫馨很
乾淨，而且大家一起玩遊戲，很快就可以互相認識。
我們也去體驗了偉恩堡的棒球賽，美國人真的很熱愛看棒球，觀眾
非常的多，而我們坐的不是有椅子的座位，而是旁邊的草皮區，Betcy
說是為樂多讓我們跟美國的朋友們多聊天，而我也很喜歡坐在草皮上，
邊聊天邊看球賽，甚至還配上爆米花和冰淇淋，真的很悠閒又享受。
更令人興奮的是中場休息時，大螢幕上還秀出 Welcome ISU university
大大的字樣，有種賓至如歸的感覺。球賽結束後還有煙火秀，也是一
堡我們大家的眼福，真的很想再去看一次棒球賽。
其實我們大家一直很想去芝加哥，但因為這不在行程內所以需要我
們自行規劃，很幸運的我們碰到了同樣來自台灣的學長，願意租車在
我們到芝加哥，還幫我們安排行程當地陪，真的真的很感謝他們，從
印第安那州到芝加哥可是要四個小時的車程呢。我們一行人六點多就
開車出發了，第一個就去了芝加哥公牛隊的主場，但是因為球季結束
了所以沒有開放參觀有點可惜，不過大們口有麥可喬登的雕像，我們
也拍照拍得很開心。接下來是中國城，一切都感覺很熟悉，終於看到
中國字的招牌了，還有很多中式的料理，我們還吃了港式料理。不過
唯一的缺點是中國城比起其他地方，相較起來就比較雜亂一點。芝加
哥的博物館很壯觀，我們還看了成吉思汗的展覽，裡面還有 3D 恐龍
展、地底生物的展覽等等，其實認真逛起來一整天都不夠。走在芝加
哥，到處都林立著高樓大廈，是個很現代化的國家，我們去看了
Millennium park 還有 Navy peir，非常的漂亮也很熱鬧旁邊還有豪華遊
艇，我們也買了很多芝加哥的紀念品。最後一站，也是最令我興奮的
一站，Willis tower，當電梯搭到 103 樓後，從窗外向下看可以把芝加
哥的高樓和海岸盡收眼底，已經高的看不見地上的人和車了，skydeck
最大的特色就是，有完全透明的玻璃，讓你可以在 103 層樓上懸空，
以前只能從新聞上看到，而如今真的到了，真的覺得很興奮。晚上的
芝加哥更為美麗，高樓大廈配著微黃的燈光，真是美不勝收。結束了
芝加哥一整天的行程，真的很感謝學長願意帶我們來，芝加哥之行是
一生中難忘的經驗。
在 IPFW 認識了好多好朋友，大家也都很幫助我們，Meg 總是很關
心我們大家，會跟我們介紹美國當地大大小小的事，對我們很有耐心，
真的是一位好老師。Betsy 為了教我們英文也很用心，用了很多不一
樣的教材，也帶我們去了很多的偉恩堡著名景點。William、Gary 更
是難得一件的好朋友，陪我們聊天、逛街、打排球、吃飯、打保齡球，
也很謝謝 Rayn 也請我們到他的宿舍吃他做得一手韓國菜，每次到
Rayn 家大家都歡的很開心。
最後一天的歡送會，我們作了簡報，說明了我們這一個月以來的生
活，最後一天真的很不捨，很多人都紅了眼眶，畢竟大家都相處了一
個月，而且我們真的很幸運，受到了很多人的幫助，希望大家在為來
的日子裡還有機會再見到面。
考到學海獎學金，能夠到美國去一個月，真的覺得自己很幸福很幸
運，不僅交了很多朋友，也讓我大開眼界，更知道英文的重要性，也
期許自己能夠更精進自己的英文實力，有機會再去美國。這次的經驗
對我來說意義非凡，為我的大學生活中寫下很不一樣的一頁。
From entering I-Shou University, a great yearning
for the dream can be completed by the scholarship to study
abroad,

dream

true,

is
very excited and looking forward to. July 7, we are in airport to say
goodbye to Taiwan to 13 long hours spent on the plane,
and is waiting for us ----- U.S.
When we arrive Chicago airport, we saw our teacher Meg.
After Meg introduced herself, she say we want to catch more than
four hours by car to go IPFW. We are very excited
because we finally in the United States, the scenery along the
way is also very different from Taiwan.
When we entered the dormitory, we go into crazy, because
their
devices
like
five-star
hotel,
very
spacious,
with
its
own
bathroom,
kitchen, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. The next
day, Meg took us to Grocery Shopping to buy daily
necessities.
Betsy
teach
us
4.5
hours
of
English courses a day, Monday to Friday. We eat dinner at Triangle
Park, where is next school. Americans eat really much bigger than
we are, they will eat bread, drinks, and two starters before main
course.
We
always
eat
too
much,
but the waiter service is also very good.
Luckily, we can take part in Three Rivers Festival in Fort
Wayne. Fort Wayne is the junction of the three rivers, and thus
the festival hold three to four weeks. Thanks to the Three Rivers
Festival
let
us
see
the
parade,
the
parade
is very grand, each in Wayne Fort groups will take to the
streets, there have a row of police cars, motorcycle, school
bands, cheerleaders.
We ride along the bike paths from IPFW to downtown,
and play canoe. We never play canoe before, so we are excited
and nervous. We are very enjoy ourselves, finish the entire
distance,
even
on
the
local
tabloid,
the
newspaper
said
Taiwan
students
to
participate
in
this event, and we are very proud of.
We visited Wayne Fort Museum, the library, the zoo, the court,
television stations, and other places. It let us know more
about the local culture. At Library, we went to the Lincoln’s Museum,
which has a collection of Lincoln portraits, photos, hand
written letters, and even the chair he sat. At Court I am particularly
struck
by
the
image,
each
painting
has
its relative levy significance and history, and the atmosphere is
very solemn. And we saw the sea lion show at the zoo. The Zoo
is
divided
into
many
regions
such
like,
Africa,
Australia area, poultry area.
Nick invited us to his house to join Ice cream party, we ate ice
cream, strawberries, handmade biscuits, while a game of
cards,
this
event
is
very
special, because we thoroughly experience the local
families living in the United States .
We
go
to
the
Wayne
Fort's
baseball
game, the Americans really like to watch baseball, the
audiences are very much, and we do not sit on the chair, but
the turf next area. I like to sit on the turf, because we can chat and
watch the game together, even with popcorn and ice cream, it
is
really
relaxed
and
enjoy. Even more exciting is the intermission on the big
screen also showed off the big words "Welcome ISU
University". After the end of the game there have fireworks, I really
wanted to go to a baseball game.
In fact, we've always wanted to go to Chicago. Luckily we
encounter the same seniors from Taiwan willing to take us to
Chicago, and also help us to arrange the itinerary local accompany.
I really appreciate them. First went to the home of the Chicago
Bulls, but because the end of the season, so there is not open. But
the statue of Michael Jordan, we took photographs shot very happy.
Next is a Chinese town, everything feels very familiar to see the
signs of the Chinese characters, there are a lot of Chinese cuisine,
we also eat a Hong Kong-style cuisine. However, the only
drawback is that the Chinese city compared to other places, by
comparison is more messy. Chicago museum is spectacular, we
also saw the exhibition of Genghis Khan, 3D dinosaur exhibition,
underground biological.
We went to see the Millennium park and Navy peir, there are
very beautiful, we bought many souvenirs in Chicago. Willis tower,
looking down from the window when the elevator ride to 103 F.
Chicago is more beautiful at night, high-rise buildings with a
yellowish light, is really beautiful. The end of a full day trip in
Chicago, really grateful.
In IPFW we made a lot of good friends. Meg was always
concerned about us, and very patient, she is really a good teacher.
Betsy also very in order to teach us English, with a lot of different
textbooks, and also took us to many famous attractions in Wayne
Fort. William, Gary is a rare piece of good friends, stay with us to
chat, shopping, playing volleyball, eating, bowling. Ryan invited us
to his dorm to eat Korean food, we always have good time in
Ryan’s dorm.
The last day we made a presentation, description of our life, in
US. We are very reluctant to each other, and hope that we will have
the opportunity to see in the future.
This trip not only let me make a lot of friends, but also opened
my eyes, and I know that English is very important, I will improve
my English abilities to have the opportunity to go to the United
States again. This special experience is very significance for me,
and for my college life.

這是我第一次出國到那麼遠的地方-美國，坐飛機坐了將近 15 小時，終於踏上美國國土，
我的心情很雀躍，對於未來的一個月美國生活既期待又興奮，一下飛機便有很親切的 Meg 接
機，我們坐了大巴士前往學校宿舍，不過要坐 4 小時的車才會到，沿途的風景都是一大片的
草地或樹叢，見識到美國國土真的很大，旅途中，我們在一家餐廳稍作休息、享用晚餐，要
用英文點餐，格外的新鮮，但有點緊張，不過因為有 Meg 在旁的協助，大家都很順利地點完
餐，我發現有一點很有趣，服務員會給一個空杯子，你要自行到旁邊裝取飲料，而且還可續
杯；而番茄醬，也是自取的，要擠多少就擠多少。之後，到了宿舍，大家都呈現倦怠，Meg
貼心地要我們好好休息。宿舍是四人一間，每個人都有自己的房間，有個人獨立的浴室，而
且還有共用的大廚房，應有盡有，有大冰箱、微波爐、烤箱、洗碗機，和一些學校提供的碗
盤，都幫我們準備妥當。我很感謝學校提供的一切。
第二天，Meg 帶我們去 Meijer 賣場，買一些需要的食材，因為早餐是我們要自行準備的，
這裡的賣場賣的東西五花八門，不過特別的是消費者可選擇自行刷條碼，並自行結帳，不用
勞駕到收銀員，這樣的初體驗感覺真特別，其實，我們幾乎每個禮拜都會到各個賣場採購呢!
在採買時，我還買了護唇膏，因為美國的天氣實在太乾燥了，才來一、兩天，我就快脫皮了，
所以來美國攜帶護唇膏和乳液是必備的阿，不過還好當地賣的護唇膏超級便宜，一個只要約
台幣 40 元而已，而我這個月也幾乎快用完一條護唇膏了。
接下來的四個禮拜的生活，真的是多采多姿，每天都過得相當充實。
感覺每天早起做早餐的感覺真是不錯，好像覺得自己獨立許多呢!我們的英文老師 Betsy，
她人很好，上課第一天，老師帶我們參觀校園，一位植物專家也熱情地向我們介紹校園裡花
園，有一點我感到很特別，就是 roof top garden，在屋頂上種植植物，植物能自然照到陽
光，若下雨，則有雨水的滋潤，而且屋頂是斜的，水自然往低處流，植物就不會吸取過多水
分了!所以，植物長的特別好，而且也不太需要別人的照顧，還不只如此，它相當美觀!這樣
的種植方式，真是經濟實惠。
接著，就是去辦學生證，現場拍照後，才一會兒，就拿到熱騰騰的學生證了，IPFW 學校的
效率快的沒話講。中午時，我們都在 WU145 室用餐，在那裡認識許多對我們很好的人，他們
都很熱情，知道我們是來學習英文的，都會主動和我們聊天，所以和他們相處很開心，而且
中餐的菜單都是我們愛吃的，我們吃的非常滿足，實在太幸福了。上課第一天的歡迎會，我
們和長官一起享用晚餐，彼此做小小的自我介紹，既緊張又興奮!還看到是台灣人的教授，顯
得格外親切。
其實，每天的晚餐大多都在三角公園餐廳用餐，我們可是常客呢!雖然對我們來說味道稍重
了一點，但整體上餐點都很不錯也很美味，服務生也非常親切，我最常點的附餐就是水果盤
和蔬菜盤，既健康又好吃，在美國很少吃到燙蔬菜，大多都只有沙拉，而且餐廳裡的蔬菜大
多都是花椰菜、蘆筍，若想吃其他種蔬菜，可能就要去賣場購買，自己回家煮了。
在課堂上，美國和台灣的上課模式非常不一樣，美國是小班制，一班大約為 15~20 人，而
且常常需要大家將桌椅圍成一個圈，好讓彼此能有更好的互動，老師也容易照顧到所有學生，
老師很鼓勵我們主動發言，而不只是單方面的聽老師講課而已，而是希望學生能勇於說出自
己的想法，是沒有任何拘束、很自然的。這樣的學習方式很不錯，每位學生都有機會說話，
不會只侷限於一兩位同學在發言，也因為每個人在課堂上都會和老師講到話，所以漸漸地和
外國人說話時比較沒那麼緊張或畏懼。我們在上課時，雖然大多是在學發音，不過搭配一些
有趣的英文繞口令和影片，就變得很有趣，老師也會準備一些遊戲，來增加上課樂趣，老師
總在課堂的最後，發一張有填空的紙讓我們填寫，寫下今日所學到的單字和學到什麼以及今
晚要做一件事來練習英文，這樣的方式讓我們能懂得複習今日所學，並記錄所學。
來到了美國，才驚覺我的英文還有很大的進步空間呢!有太多單字都忘了，連最簡單的問題
有時都回答的不太好，在台灣時，較注重拼字、文法，很少是需要和人說英文，但到了美國
最重要的是能和別人交談、溝通，文法似乎變得沒那麼注重了，所以剛來美國，總是過於擔
心和強調自己的文法是否正確，但之後發現，只要將想說的說出來，即時文法錯誤，別人也
能猜到你想表達的，所以不要因此害怕開口說。
學校除了安排課程，也安排了一些活動，認識許多外國學生，一起吃飯並玩遊戲，從互動
中發現了各國的數數字一到十的手勢都很不同，很有趣，而且在每次的派對上，都可以交到
新朋友，大家都很親切，約好一起晚上打排球(因為在美國，就算已晚上九點了，天色仍很明
亮，所以我們總會打球到十一點才會罷休呢!)。假日時，他們也很樂意帶我們去購物或帶我
們出去玩，真的很謝謝他們。在有一次的派對上，我們嘗到了各國的料理，很有異國風味，
都非常有特色，我們也做了珍珠奶茶給大家品嘗，大家反應都還不錯，在這當中，認識了德
國人、西班牙人、緬甸人，他們都是高中生，卻看起來比我們成熟。我們還到過 Nick 家辦冰
淇淋派對，他們家人都相當親切，而且我們還玩叫殺手的遊戲以及傳彈珠遊戲，和外國人玩
遊戲感覺就是很不一樣呢!
走在美國的街道上，都會有外國人很親切的和你打招呼，雖然彼此不認識，但都會互相問
好，真的很熱情，這點讓我印象深刻。而我在美國這段生活，最常的運動就是打排球，有時
會有不認識的外國學生主動加入，因此結交了不少朋友，我們玩得很盡興。若想玩其他運動，
宿舍還有健身房、桌球、撞球、桌上足球任你挑選，簡直太高級了呢!在宿舍裡做運動，真是
一大享受。
我們除了上課外，還參加了相當多的戶外活動，參觀當地藝術博物館，並且體驗在戶外一
邊吃著美味餐點、吹著微風，一邊聽著樂團現場演奏，真的有到國外的感覺呢!我們也去當地
最大的圖書館，看到如何將紙本的書做成電子書的過程，這個技術很獨特，而且還到了密室，
有更多藏書，有林肯總統親筆寫的文件呢!而最令我驚豔的是圖書館收藏報紙的方式是我第一
次耳聞，報紙不是厚厚一疊的紙，而是將每頁的報紙內容換成一捲的相片帶，既容易收藏又
不怕蛀蟲侵蝕，實在太聰明了!讓我驚讚不已。我們還到過電視台，到了攝影棚，感覺好特別
呢!我們也去動物園，我們觀賞海獅秀，而這裡的動物園可以和動物近距離的接觸，可摸山羊
並拍照，就連長頸鹿也近在咫尺，伸手可及!
除此之外，我們還去現場看棒球賽，看到了在電影裡看到的場景，就是攝影機往觀眾台照，
照到的情侶或夫妻都要親親，感覺好甜蜜，好有趣，而當我們義守大學四字被標在歡迎前來
觀看隊伍的螢幕上，還真是又驚又喜呢!我們也參觀了市中心最大的的地標:法院，外面富麗
堂皇的建築最為特色，裡面更是美麗，驚豔在場我們所有的人，裡面的每一小塊的磚塊都價
值不斐呢!之後，我們到科學中心，摸索有趣的科學，了解物理、化學原理，玩的不亦樂乎。
在美國，最讓我難忘的莫過於能參加當地一年一度盛大的節慶-三河節，超多人聚集在街邊
觀賞遊行，有馬車上街遊走、有啦啦隊、有儀隊、有各式跑車遊行，其中也有不少是公益團
體，經過 Meg 在旁的解釋，我了解到原來有很多遊行的團體是幫助那些有難、需要支援的人，
像是協助那些因火災而沒有房子的人幫他們重建家園等…是相當有意義的!在遊行的隊伍，當
然也不外乎 IPFW 學校的隊伍，學校是以超大的大象氣球登場(大象是學校的吉祥物喔!)。超
顯眼的。
除了看遊行外，我們在隔周的假日還體驗了三河節一系列的活動，騎腳踏車，欣賞沿途美
麗風景，生活是那麼的愜意，騎到了目的地，接下來就是滑獨木舟，這樣的體驗我感覺很新
鮮又有趣，獨木舟比賽是三人一組，我們這組簡直是拼了，剛開始時，會重心不穩，方向不
定，不過熟能生巧，最後獨木舟終於能穩穩前進了，我們這組默契十足，獲得團員中的第二
名!雖然很累但玩得很盡興，而且現場還有記者訪問來自台灣的我們，甚至之後我們還上了當
地報紙呢!
我們除了在印第安納州之外，還到了隔壁的城市-芝加哥，雖然是自行付費的，不過一切都
很值得，我們行程滿檔，到處狂拍照，去中國城、Millennium Park 看「雲豆」
、參觀博物館、
到 103 層樓高的建築俯瞰城市的美，甚至還站在透明玻璃上，望下俯看高樓，真的非常刺激，
晚上還吃了來芝加哥必吃的披薩，真是美味!在芝加哥一日的時間，所有美景盡收眼底。
在最後的歡送晚餐，我們還在大家面前介紹台灣以及分享在美國生活的點點滴滴，還準備
了 ppt 呢!不過要用英文向大家報告，還真的很緊張，能和外國人介紹台灣，感覺自己好像成
了外交官，擔任重責大任呢!
一個月的時間過得好快，好捨不得在美國生活的點點滴滴，每天都有新鮮又有趣的事等著
我們，體驗了曾未有過的經驗，認識了很多對我們很好的人，很感謝他們對我們做的一切，
因為有他們，讓這趟美國遊學之旅增添不少色彩，使我每天都過得非常幸福，若以後有機會，
我必會再次踏上這美麗國土的。我知道能有這樣的出國機會真得是得來不易，我很感謝學校
給的機會，讓我增廣見聞，大開眼界!這趟美國旅行創造了好多美好的回憶，我將永遠放在心
裡，永不忘記。

I haven’t been to America so I was very excited about this trip. I was so surprised that I could go
abroad to the place far away from Taiwan.
After about fifteen hours, we finally arrived to the Chicago. I was delighted at that time because
I really expected for the life in America. As soon as we departed from the airport, Meg from IPFW
picked us up. In this trip, she took good care of us. And then, we spent four hours drive going to
Fort Wayne. On the way to dormitory, I almost saw large grass or trees everywhere. So, the land in
America was really large exceeding my imagination. When we arrived to our dormitory, we were
very tired because it was time too late. Meg said good night to us and hoped we could sleep well.
Speaking to our dormitory, it was so beautiful and gave us comfort. It was a four-person room.
Each person owned his/her bedroom and bathroom. Besides, we shared a big kitchen. The kitchen
contained many things we can use. Such as a big refrigerator, a microwave, an oven, a dish washer,
some utensils which school offered for us and so on. In club house, there were many sports
facilities, such as table tennis, pool, table soccer, and a big gymnasium.
Second day, Meg took us to “Meijer” to buy some ingredients or articles for daily use because
we only should prepare for our breakfast ourselves. “Meijer” was like “Carrefour” in Taiwan. I
found that consumer could choose the machine without cashier, named self-checkout. You
brushed bar code and gave money to machine. It was very convenient. In fact, we went to different
grocery stores every week. In American, I had to buy a lip balm to adapt the dry environment.
Therefore, bringing a lip balm and lotion was necessities for your luggage. Fortunately, the prices of
these things here were cheap. I almost ran out of a lip balm in the trip.
The next four weeks, the life was really colorful and substantial.
Getting up early to prepare for breakfast was a routine every day. This experience let me not
only become more independent but also form a good habit. The first day of classes, we met our
teacher, Betsy. She treated us very well. She took us to look around on campus. A plant expert
enthusiastically introduced some gardens on campus. The fun thing was roof top garden, “plant
the plants or flowers on the roof”. Plants easily absorbed the sunlight. If it was rainy day, plants
could absorb rainwater. Besides, the roof was oblique so excess water could flow away and the
plant will not absorb too much water! Therefore, the plants looked pretty good. I think this way
was so smart and convenient. And then, we went to apply on ID. After taking a picture, we got our
ID just few minutes. The efficiency of IPFW was really fast. I liked it so much.
At noon, we ate lunch in WU145 room many times, we met some friendly people. They were so
enthusiastic and open-mind. They ate lunch with us together. They knew we went here to learn
English so they actively chatted with us. I was glad to get along with them. We ate many kinds of
tasty food here.
At night, we mostly ate dinner in the Triangle Park restaurant. We were frequenter! Although
the flavor of food was a little salty or sweet for us, it was still delicious. The waiters were also nice.
Moreover, when we went here last time, they gave us a big cake which was written some Chinese
words to wish us have a great future. All of us felt surprised and were touched about it.
In class, the lesson in the United States was different from Taiwan. In America, there were just
about fifteen to twenty students in class. We always should surround tables and chairs to a circle.
So, everyone could talk with each other easily. Every student could have a better interaction with
each other. Besides, Betsy encouraged us to speak our opinions initiatively instead of only paying
an attention to her lecture. So, speaking in class was permitted. We learned the pronunciation in
class. Because Betsy often gave us some interesting English tongue twister or films, the lesson
became more fun. At the end of each class, Betsy gave us a piece of paper which contained some
blanks. We could write down some new words and review things we learned today.
In the past, I thought I was not bad at English. However, when I went here, I suddenly knew my
English has still a big space for improvement. I forgot words and even forgot how to answer the
question. I felt frustrated. I was so worried about my pronunciation and I over-emphasized on my
grammar I said right or not. Therefore, I became scared at talking to others. After my friend talked
to me some advice and inspired me, I felt better. If you spoke your opinion, people could guess and
understand the means you say. Foreign people didn’t care about the grammar while chatting with
each other. So, just speak loud without fear. You could find your English improved a lot.
In the free time, IPFW arranged some activities for us. So, we had many opportunities to meet
foreign students and make friends. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I left a good impression on
them. We also made an appointment to play volleyball together. Even if it was nine o’clock at night,
the sky was still bright. Because the sunlight was very long in Fort Wayne, we always stopped
playing volleyball until about eleven o’clock. We almost played volleyball every day. Moreover, our
new friends sometimes took us to go shopping, play bowl and so on. We enjoyed all the time.
At a special party, we ate many kind of food from different countries, such as Spanish, Burma,
and Germany. We listened to foreign student’s presentation about their countries. Besides, we also
prepared for pearl milk tea representing Taiwan. We were glad everybody liked this flavor. They
said it liked bubble tea.
In addition to classes, we took a bus to visit downtown. We toured of Fort Wayne art museum.
At lunch, we listened to band outside while eating light meal. The band was full of energy. What a
great performance! I really enjoyed the music. And then, we went to Allen county public library
and knew some special works of e-book. It was interesting. We entered the secret room and knew
many things about Lincoln. We learned a lot. Moreover, when we walked on the street, passers
always said hi and gave us a big smile. They were so extroverted. I thought we could imitate this
way when we walked on the road in Taiwan.
In the third week, we visited the public television station. This was my first time to enter the
studio. I was so excited that I took many pictures. When I sat a seat, I became an anchor reporting
news. It was so funny. This week, we also went to local zoo. We saw sea lion show. We could be
closed to animals. Therefore, I could touch goats and take picture with them. Besides, giraffe stood
near us so we feed grass. I found giraffe had a very long tongue!
In the fourth week, we went to scene watching baseball game. It was very crowd. When we saw
I-Shou University marked on the screen, we were so surprised and thought their behaviors were so
thoughtful. We were touched! Moreover, we toured of Allen county courthouse which was the
most representative building in Fort Wayne. It was beautiful and looked like a palace inside. It was
amazing. And then, we went to the science central. There were many interesting games waiting for
us. We explored the wonders of science.
Life in America, the most unforgettable experience was we attended the local annual grand
festival- Three Rivers Festival. Many people gathered to watch parade on the street. Parade
included carriage-walking, cheerleading, honor guard, roadster show and so on. Because Meg
explained detail next to me, I learned parade team had also many charity organizations. Many
groups were willing to help those in need. For example, charities assisted those without houses
due to fire in rebuilding their home. It was very meaningful! In parade, it was definitely nothing
more than the team of our school, IPFW. It was a very large elephant balloon in parade because
elephant is the mascot of IPFW! It was really conspicuous.
In addition to watching parade, we also participated in a series of Three Rivers Festival activities
next weekend. We rode a bike appreciating the beautiful scenery along the path. We lived leisurely
and carefree. After we rode to the destination, we joined the exciting game- canoe. This was our
first time to canoe. This experience was fresh and fun for us. The game was threesome. Our group
wanted to win so we slid hard. At the beginning, our center-of-gravity position was instable, and
the direction was uncertain. But, practice makes perfect. Canoe was gradually able to move
forward steadily. Finally, we won second place in the competition. Our teamwork was great. We
had the good team chemistry. Although canoe was tiring, we had still a wonderful time. Moreover,
reporters interviewed us on the scene and later we were on the local newspaper! It was so cool
and amazing.
We didn’t just stay in Fort Wayne. We also went to Chicago for almost one day. We were so crazy
because we didn’t believe we could go there. Our dream came true. We were very thankful for our
friends driving us. Our journey was very tight. We always took picture everywhere. We visited
many famous places, such as the millennium park seeing the bean, field museum, Willis tower
seeing the whole views of Chicago and so on. This Chicago trip was self-pay, but we all thought it
was worth.
At the final farewell dinner, we did the presentation for everyone. We introduced Taiwan as well
as shared dribs and drabs of life in Fort Wayne. I was so nervous before starting presentation.
However, I thought this was my last time here. So, I tried hard and prepared well. I thought I really
did it. Betsy was also satisfied with our performances. At the end, everyone hugged each other and
said goodbye. We all hoped that we can see everyone again in the future.
One month was gone very soon. I thought I will miss everybody and everything in America. I
experienced many interesting things I have never done before. I made a lot of friends who treated
me very well. I was so grateful to everyone in IPFW for all that they had done. I really lived a
colorful life every day. If I have the chance, I will set foot on this beautiful place, Fort Wayne again.
In addition, I knew the opportunity to go abroad was not easy to come by. Therefore, I was
thankful for the school giving me this chance to broaden my horizons. Finally, I want to say that I
will memory the unforgettable trip in my mind forever.
