II. Course Description
In order to make our Winlock High School team more competitive, I will develop a new offensive
strategy for the team. I will select a coaching informational method i.e. videos, books, clinic lecture,
speaker. I will write up notes for the information I am studying. I will assess this information and
explain how I will be able to utilize this information in my coaching assignment. Finally, I will teach this
information to my athletes and then evaluate its effectiveness.
III. General Goals
In doing this work I will:
1. Study key information for offense for football.
2. Evaluate this information as it pertains to my coaching assignment.
3. Make a practice or lesson plan that will incorporate this information.
4. Teach this information to my athletes.
5. Evaluate the plan in terms of my athlete’s performance.
IV. Details of Learning Plan
A. Information Acquisition
(5 hours)
1. I will select a book on the wing-t offense
2. I will read the book, take notes on the information, and submit as an assignment.
B. Learning Application
(5 hours)
1. I will take the information from the wing-t book and construct a practice plan that will teach the
essential steps I feel are important and will use in my offense.
2. I will execute this practice plan, teaching my players the information at practice.
C. Self Reflection
(2 hours)
1. I will video tape this practice plan
2. I will watch the video and evaluate player performance in executing this practice plan.
3. I will make the necessary corrections in my practice plan or instruction to my athletes.

A. Information Acquisition
1. I will select a book, a video, and a clinic lecture on the 4-3 defense.
2. I will study and take notes on all three, which I will submit as an assignment.

1. I will take the information from the 4-3 book, 4-3 video, and 4-3 clinic lecture and compare and
contrast them into a single plan of action that I can use for my team.
2. I will construct 5 practice plans that will teach the essential steps I feel are important and will use
in this defense.
3. I will execute these practice plans, teaching my players the information at practice.
500 Level Assignment.
(22 hours)
1. For this assignment activity I will focus on the development of my program and student/athletes as
they relate to this sport and to the community. I will select the movie Rudy and the movie
Remembering the Titans as motivational pieces for my athletes and we will watch them as a team.
2. After the movies we will discuss the important issues covered in the movie.
3. I will then provide a summary of the item used for this study.
4. I will then explain my goals in using this movie.
5. I will provide: a reflective summary on the discussions the team has regarding these movies and a
description of how this prepares them and the program to become positive for our community.
6. Then we will outline some strategies from our discussions to be able to use in the community.
7. We’ll execute these strategies in the community (involvement in youth programs, fundraisers, etc)

C. Self Reflection

2. I will watch the video and grade (evaluate) the performance of my players in executing this

Sample Assignment Activities
To guide you in preparing your WorkPlan proposal, please review the following examples
of the kinds of assignments you could pursue for for various parts of your self-designed
study.
A. INFORMATION ACQUISITION:
1. Assignments in this section involve seeking new information via workbooks, videos,
training camps etc.
2. Describe your coaching assignment including the sport, age level, your role and the
program.
3. Select one or more of the following formats for study.
Length of study time will vary depending on format chosen:
A. instructional video
B. instructional book
C. clinic presentation
D. other--approved by instructor
Study the format chosen. Time in studying should be between 2-10 hours.
I.E. instructional videos might be an hour or two compared to a clinic presentation
that could be up to 10 hours of instructional material.
4. Evaluate the subject matter chosen by responding to the following questions:
A. Explain your goals, as a coach, for studying the particular material
you have chosen.
B. Provide a basic summary of the material studied.
C. Evaluate the material:
1. What can you use from this material?
2. What would you leave out?
3. How does this piece compare to other material you might have studied?
5. Provide summary descriptions for each key concept, drill, strategy, philosophy, etc you
acquired from this material and will use in your program. I.E. perhaps you selected a
video on fundamentals and the video covered 10 fundamental strategies. You would
provide a description of these fundamental drills for this assignment.
6. Select 1-2 feature length sports movies to show to your athletes for motivation. Some
examples include Rudy, Hoosiers, etc—see list in bibliography section.
B. LEARNING APLICATION:
Assignments in this section reflect application of your new learning to your coaching situation.
1. Describe how you will use this information in your particular coaching assignment. This
assignment would be like a practice or lesson plan in which you would map out the
expectations of the information in your practice and then the details of how you would
execute it in a practice.

2. Explain how you will evaluate the success of this information in your coaching situation.
I.E. a physical or timed test, graded film on the athlete’s performance, improvement in
ability, etc.
3. Provide a short video clip of your instructional method, practiced skill, or game film that
demonstrates the application. Video clip should be no more than 10 minutes in length
and must comply with format and guidelines set forth by such websites as youtube.com
as an example.
4. Become a guest speaker on your sports topic to a clinic or community and provide the
details of the speech.
5. For this assignment activity you will be focusing on the development of your program and
student/athletes as they relate to this sport and to the community. Start by selecting one
of the following formats to study:
Motivational book
Motivational sport movie
Motivational speaker
Other
6. Provide a summary of the item used for this study. Explain your goals in using this piece
for instructional development to your athletes; and explain how you will use this activity
to teach your athletes.
7. Provide a 1-2 page reflective summary on your sports program as it relates to your school
and community. Include a description of how your program is preparing your athletes to
become positive citizens.
C. Self-Reflection
The Self-Reflection assignments help you assess the effectiveness of your new strategies.
1. If you complete this course while your athletes are in season, implement your new strategy
and provide a 1-2-page summary indicating: a) What worked well b) What needs
improvement c) Nest steps.
2. Video-tape your athletes using your new strategy, review and play back for your and their
review. Provide a 1-page summary assessment, including tips given to athletes. If you
would like feedback on your team play, consider uploading a 10-minute or less segment
on www.youtube.com for your reviewer to comment on.
D. Integration Paper
