Smarter Cities - Focusing on
"How", not "Why" or "What"
User Experience in Smart Living
Space
Gordon will make a case for more focus on the
how rather than the what and why in smart city
development and implementation. He also will
introduce the Masdar City in Abu Dhabi (UAE),
a zero carbon sustainable city project costs
$20 Billion USD, where he headed Strategy and
advisor to both the publiv and private sectors.
IoTs are becoming pervasive with the aim to
enhance user experience via the possibilities of
interconnectivity. But most smart things/IoTs are
largely built to address immediate needs of single
vertical sectors and these sectors include;
Transport, Housing, Energy, Law-enforcement,
Retail & Industrial applications. From our customers
voices, these IoT or smart things, need to be able to
cross verticals to derive meaning and provide new
services. Services that address beyond immediate
business needs in multiple vertical sectors in order
to enhance user experience while addressing social
and cultural demands. The immediate opportunities
to solve aging population and transport issues are
through environmental and transport improvements.
And all these starts from living space.
Handling the NASA Big Data Tsunami with Surfboards
from the Apache Software
Foundation
The Internet of Electricity will be the King; sitting in
the centre connecting any kind of grid assets with
each other, as well as with, for example,
application servers and a cloud based integrated
system supervision and optimization process.
There is an Energy Revolution ahead. And as the
notorious Computer Scientist - Alan Kay famously
once said: “the best way to predict the future is to
invent it.”

Sustainable Cities and Smart
Grids
A New Era of Connected
Healthcare
Dr. Viejo will introduce: energy and sustainable
cities; challenges of energy grids of the future;
consum-actors and prosumers. Then he will
outlook how will be the future smart grid
solutions through R&D.
Philips personal health programs represent a new
era in connected care for consumers, patients and
health providers, as healthcare continues to move
outside the hospital, and into our homes and
everyday lives. They are built on the Philips
HealthSuite Digital Platform, an open and secure,
cloud-based platform that collects and analyzes
health and other data from multiple devices and
sources. These health programs leverage Philips’
deep healthcare and consumer expertise and will be
brought to the market via professional and
consumer channels.
Beauty & Performance
through Data: A Discussion of
Design and Human
Experience
Once relegated to retail and healthcare, big data is
transforming an unexpected industry: architecture.
NBBJ – which designs buildings for Google,
Tencent, Amazon, Samsung and Microsoft – uses
software tools that harvest public and private data
sources to optimize the design, experience and
performance of a building and the people who live,
work, play and heal inside. From tools that analyze
and predict the number of interactions an
employee will have with colleagues each day in a
specific office design, to software that ensures
appropriate noise levels in hospitals, learn how big
data turns the architecture industry upside-down.
