Cougars in Recovery, the collegiate recovery community at the University of Houston, offers incoming students a smooth transition to the university, both socially and academically; offers positive social interactions; sets standards that hold recovering students accountable, and provides support, guidance and opportunities to serve the community. 1. Enhance program by incorporating students' strengths and interests to increase student participation and ensure the success of students in recovery at the University of Houston by incorporating social activities that will be developed and led by students. Broaden the scope of the program to encompass a larger group of students in recovery both on campus and in the city of Houston by incorporating support for a wider range of addictions and mental health concerns. Purpose of Assessment Activity To increase the number of students participating in sober social activities to foster positive, substance free relationships and build a sense of community through shared experiences. Method Create a calendar of social events as determined by students incorporating their varied interests and strengths; offer an outdoor adventure activity with a skill learning component each semester. Track the number of CIR students and community members in attendance at each activity. Learning Outcome(s) and/or Assessment Activity Objective(s) In an effort to provide services that will be attractive to a larger number of UH students; CIR will determine additional areas of support that could benefit students. Purpose of Assessment Activity To better meet the needs of students; increase of the membership size and percentage of active participants within the CIR community. Method CIR will develop a questionnaire to determine the full array of addictions students are struggling with as well as any co-occurring disorders to determine specific areas where additional support is required.
