Everything you need to know to be a
FALK FRESH FRUIT
VOLUNTEER…
LUNCH SERVICE is from 11:10 am to 1:00 pm
ARRIVAL
You are permitted to park in the bus lane or semi- circle
during your volunteer time.
Make sure you sign in at the main office and get a
visitor’s pass to wear during your visit.
If it is your first visit as a volunteer fruit slicer,
please introduce yourself to our cafeteria
personnel, Bertie, Anita, Kerry and Lisa so they can:
Show you where to put your personal belongings during
your visit.
Show you where to wash your hands.
Show you where the fruit and necessary supplies can be found and the best way to use
them or handle them.
FRUIT CUTTING
Please follow these guidelines to help ensure the health and safety of our children:


ALWAYS wear gloves when cutting and serving fruit.
Remind children (and adults) to use the serving tongs to select
their fruit.
 If a child is struggling with the tongs, you can
offer to help put the fruit on their tray. It’s also fine to
give them the time to work on this skill.
 Children are permitted to have a whole piece of fruit instead
of sliced pieces. All children are permitted to have the sliced fruit,
even students who have a packed lunch. Paper plates are available for those
without a tray.
 Children have been encouraged by their teachers to take no more than three or four
slices of fruit at a time. Students are always allowed to return for more fruit.
DEPARTURE
If you plan to be in the building longer, you will need to have your car out of bus lane
or Governor’s circle by 2:00 pm as busses do start to arrive at this time. Please
remember to sign out so that we are not searching the building for you if a car is
blocking these lanes.

Give an apple–take a smile!
That’s what you’ll get when you volunteer to
cut fruit for our children at lunchtime
The lunchtime fresh fruit program has been a huge success since its
inception in 2006. Our students are eating more fruit at lunchtime than
ever before!
We are looking for lunchtime volunteers
for the 2014-15 school year. What? You’ve
never volunteered to be a fruit cutter and
don’t know what to do? All that it entails is
to work a full or partial lunch period (from
11:10am - 1:00pm) cutting the school’s
fresh, organic fruit and presenting it to
the children. It’s easy, it’s fun and the time
just flies by. See the separate ‘guidelines’
flyer for more details.
Thank you to the Falk faculty, staff, parents, grandparents and friends
for donating your time to making this important and healthy program
a success.
You can sign-up to volunteer by sending an e-mail to:
falkfreshfruit@yahoo.com or by calling Patricia Tsagaris at
412/242-1382.
