Ideal Parent Project Student Handout This project provides you with an opportunity to think about an ideal parent. Since we covered healthy relationships and parenting styles in class during this unit, you might have already spent some time considering the qualities and characteristics that are important in a parent. PART ONE: In the first part of this project, you will be creating a collage to illustrate the personal qualities, skills and talents you would look for in an ideal parenting partner. Use photographs from magazines or internet sites (or draw images yourself) to represent these qualities, skills and talents. You can also write words to describe this person. Imagine you get to create an ideal parenting partner. What would s/he look like? Which personality traits are important to you? What skills and talents would s/he possess? Refer to the list below for some ideas. Be sure to include at least seven of these factors. Personality: funny, generous, patient, etc. Appearance: what they would look like physically Skills: athletic, mechanical, domestic abilities, etc. Talents: musical, dramatic, artistic talents Education/Career: educational goals, job/career Lifestyle: hobbies, pastimes, common interests, etc. Ideas About Family/Children: size of family, roles of parents, family background Cultural/Ethnic Origin: country/place of origin, ethnicity, etc. Religion/Spiritual Denomination: beliefs and practices Parenting Style: how s/he would parent and interact with children Be prepared to share your collage and explain your choices to the class. This will be part of your oral presentation. PART TWO: In the second part of this project, you will consider what qualities you could bring to a parenting partnership in the future. What could you offer a child? Think about your personality traits, skills, talents and ideas about parenting. Decide on at least three important factors. Using an artistic medium (artwork, dramatic skit, monologue, poem, song, webpage, video, etc.) prepare a five minute oral presentation in which you describe these factors.
