Professor Anthony P. Moran BSc, PhD, DSc, FRSC, MRIA 1960–2010 Professor Anthony (Tony) Moran, who died in office on 30th September 2010, was a Professor of Microbiology in the National University of Ireland Galway since 2005. He was Founder and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biochemistry, School of Natural Sciences, NUI Galway. His untimely and sudden passing, before reaching his 50th birthday, is deeply mourned by his many students, colleagues and friends, and, above all, by his wife Mari, daughter Anna, son Martin, mother and extended family. Since first appointed Lecturer in 1992, Professor Moran contributed extensively to both research and teaching in NUI Galway. His major research contribution to microbial biochemistry and glycobiology is widely recognised at both national and international levels. To commemorate Tony and his great achievements the School of Natural Sciences will establish in its new seminar programme a: Prof. Anthony P. Moran Lecture. The lecture topic will cover an area of Tony’s expertise and will be held by a leading international scientist once a year during the week of the 30th September.
