Hazardous Waste Pickups and Management in EHS Assistant
Add a radioactive material container
• To add radioactive waste, click the radio button for “Radioactive”
Select the physical form of the waste
• Select the physical form of the waste. Liquid scintillation vials can now
be selected as the container type.
Select the container type and number
• Add the number of containers with exactly this type of waste, other
containers with different sizes or different materials happen later.
• Select the container type from the drop-down menu.
Add the location and any pertinent comments
• Comments regarding the location of required activity sheets, or other
documentation are always helpful.
Mixed Isotope Waste?
• This refers to “Mixed waste” which is radioactive waste that is mixed
with other hazardous materials such as organic solvents. Only use this
if you have mixed waste, and it has been approved by Radiation
Safety.
Mixed Isotope Waste Chemical Selection
• For mixed isotope wastes, a panel for selecting other chemicals will
also be present. For more information, see the chemical waste
selection tutorial.
Select the isotope
• Use the blue “i” button to select an isotope from your sublicense.
• Verify License Line # and Permit #.
• Add the activity of the waste and unit, then click the blue “Attach”
link.
Select any additional hazards
• If additional hazards are present, such as organic solvents or toxic
chemicals, click the checkbox and select them from the drop-down.
Submit, add another container
• Click the “Submit” button to complete this container. Use the “Add
Another Container” button afterward to add subsequent containers.
• Use the “Done” button to complete the request, or the “Cancel”
button to remove this container but continue the request.
Second Container, and So On
• You can continue to add containers of different types until your
pickup request is complete.
