Enrollment Requirements for CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER A tour and parent/child intake (orientation) are required for admission to all programs. Tours are provided Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Intake may be scheduled with the secretary. Intake entails completing required enrollment/financial forms, submitting immunization records, meeting child's teacher, orientation of policies, procedures, curriculum, and answering any questions. Young Scholars also makes available an exciting, integrated Fine Arts program through Arts Alive, Inc. PRESCHOOL through MIDDLE SCHOOL (3years - 8th grade) Young Scholars is known for its accelerated early education program. Many graduates of our Pre-K programs have entered Houston’s most revered private and public schools. Our innovative approach in bridging gaps in funding streams, education, and staff development has afforded families of Young Scholars to receive a public school education in a private school setting. Our model has been used throughout the state as a way to provide affordable, high quality early care and education. Young Scholars Academy for Excellence (YSAFE) instructional design utilizes certified, professional staff to implement learner-centered instruction. The design promotes higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Integrated curriculum, including field lessons are utilized to develop skills in: Language Arts, Math, Science, Technology, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Foreign, Personal Health and Safety, Physical Education. We also offer students an opportunity to develop leadership skills and character through extra-curricular activities such as Student Council, Cheerleading, and Steppers. After School / Extended School Day Our enrichment program is coordinated by our elementary/ middle school teachers. A focus on entrepreneurship, leadership, fine arts, culinary arts, technology, science, sports, literacy , etc. help to enrich student skills through hands-on activities. Homework assistance and tutorials are available. Some activity fess may apply. Summer Camp / Summer School Summer Camp is specifically designed to provide enrichment over the summer. Summer School is offered through our charter school. Summer School is designed to provide remediation and/or enrichment. Summer Camp and Summer School schedules are available in the month of April. Summer School is offered for HISD students which qualify. Gifted and Talented (Young Energetic Scholars: YES) Our Gifted and Talented Program (Young Energetic Scholar - Y.E.S.) serves students who have been identified as potentially gifted or talented in intellectual ability, creativity or leadership. Curriculum is specifically designed to develop the student's special talents while enhancing their learning capabilities.
