THANK YOU!
A special thank you to the community for being so generous in donating to our Angel and Mitten Tree
as well as many boxes of food items. Our Community Outreach truly demonstrated the spirit of giving.
God Bless.

Criminal Reference Check
In compliance with Ministry directives, a
Criminal Reference Check is required if you
wish to volunteer your services in the school,
transport students and assist on trips. Copies
of the Criminal Reference forms are available
in the office. An annual declaration is required for all valid
Criminal Reference Checks that are on file in the school office.
Please call the school to set up a time to meet with Mrs. Gillis
to get the CRC form.
ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK
Please be aware that there are several pupils
in our school with a severe life-threatening
food allergy (anaphylaxis) to peanuts and
nuts. This is a medical condition that causes
a severe reaction and can result in death
within minutes. Although this may or may
not affect your child’s class directly, please
send foods with your child to school that are free from
peanuts or nut products. Thank you for your
understanding and cooperation.

preparing for the Mass. It truly was spectacular! Thank you!

SAFETY AT ST. DAVID OF WALES
MEDICATION
While outside during recess students sometimes find
themselves engaging in inappropriate activities that involve
rough play. Pushing, shoving, tackling, play fighting and wrestling
are all unacceptable activities that compromise student safety.
Please reinforce with your children the inherent dangers of
rough play, even when the intent is fun.
A reminder that students are not allowed to
bring any medication to school. This includes
prescription and non-prescription medication.
As per Board protocol, all medication must
be stored in the office, accompanied by
appropriate paperwork and doctor signature.
Please note that this includes Advil, cough
medication, etc. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. As always, we care about the safety
of all our students.
It is important that students come to school on time on a daily
basis. Yard supervision begins at 8:30 a.m. and the bell rings at
8:45 a.m. Students who are late for school need to get a late
slip from the office.
All visitors/parents/guardians in the school must report to the
office and sign in. We ask that all volunteers and visitors to the
school wear a visitor/volunteer sticker so they can easily be
identified by staff and students.
YARD SUPERVISION
Also, it is expected that you call the school (905) 848-4200
press #1 to inform us that your son/daughter will be
absent or late and the reason.
Please remember teacher supervision, in both the main yard
and Kindergarten courtyard does not commence until 8:30
a.m. Afternoon Kindergarten students are not supervised
until 12:30 p.m. in the Kindergarten courtyard. Parents/
guardians are asked not to drop off their children prior to
these times as students will be unsupervised.
EXTENDED FRENCH INFORMATION MEETING
OUR CATHOLIC SCHOOL HERITAGE
Grade 4 parent(s)/guardian(s), who wish to enroll their child
in a Grade 5 Extended French class for September, 2014 are
invited to attend an information meeting at:
Catholic parents and students used to pay tuition after grade
ten. Parental groups raised money from draws, lotteries and
school events. Parish priests contributed money from their
Sunday collections. Many separate school boards, including
Dufferin-Peel, opened intermediate-division (i.e. grades seven
to ten) schools. With the vital assistance of the religious
teaching Orders (which taught in and administered grades
eleven to thirteen for little or nothing), the diocese
continued to operate private Catholic high schools and
opened new ones.

SETTING THE STANDARD FOR HEALTHY
EATING
A healthy mind depends on a healthy body. Students who
eat healthy food are better prepared to learn and are
more likely to succeed in school. Schools are now
complying with the Ministry’s new School Food and
beverage Policy that includes comprehensive nutrition
standards. The policy officially started in September,
2011. Please continue to send healthy snacks and lunches
for your child to enjoy at school.
KISS ‘N RIDE
INDOOR SHOES / CHANGE OF CLOTHES
Please note that cars are
not to use the bus lane at
any time.
Parents/
guardians are also asked to
use our proper Kiss ’N Ride
lanes and not to pull into the
bus lanes.
Parents/guardians please do not leave your car
unattended in the Kiss “N Ride lanes at any
point in the school day. If you are dropping off a
lunch for your child please park your car in designated
parking spots or on the street. We ask that parents use
extra caution when using our Kiss “N Ride lanes in the
winter months. Please drive safely and take your time,.
Our focus is always to keep all of our students safe.
Please do not enter the parking lot through the
exit. This is very dangerous and the safety of our
students is paramount. We thank you in advance for
your cooperation.
BUS RULES
Please review the following rules with your child(ren) if
they are transported by bus:
1. Listen to the driver.
2. Remain seated at all times
3. Speak in conversational tones (no yelling)
4. Refrain from using inappropriate language
5. Do not eat/drink on the bus
COLD AND FLU SEASON
Please use discretion in keeping your
children home to recover if they are ill. A
child who is coughing, wheezing, etc. is not
in a state to learn and will only infect
others. If a student is sent to school, it is
assumed that they will participate in all aspects of the
school day, including outdoor recess. We do not provide
individual indoor supervision. We also remind parents to
dress students for our weather conditions. We will be
having outdoor recess, weather permitting, as much as
possible. At all times, we follow the Board guidelines for
inclement weather. The students enjoy going out, especially
if they have their snowsuits, boots, hats and mittens.
Please ensure that your child comes
to school prepared to go outside for
recess and lunch hour breaks. It is the
expectation that each child comes
dressed appropriately to go outside to
enjoy the weather and get some fresh
air and exercise. If your child is prone to getting wet
during recess, please send a change of clothes, especially
socks and sweat pants. Please ensure that your child
brings a pair of indoor shoes to school. Please label the
shoes for our primary students. Running shoes are
preferred because they are safe and can also be used for
gym. Please ensure that the shoes have non-marking
soles. We appreciate your continued support.

RECYCLING / ECO SCHOOL
At St. David of Wales we encourage
you to reduce the amount of garbage
going to landfill sites. We collect
recycling materials from classrooms each week. We want
to encourage students to bring litter less or boomerang
lunches and reusable water bottles, as we did last year! It
is very important to us to treat our earth with respect
and to preserve our earth for future generations!
SNOWBALLS
When the cold months arrive and snow and ice on the
ground is plentiful, we all like to play in it and with it.
Throwing snowballs and sliding on the ice is fun.
However, as much fun as it is, snow and ice, can be very
dangerous when lots of people are in a small area. In
order for our school to be as safe as possible, the school
rule must be that snow and ice stays on the ground.
There will be no snowballs, kicking snow or
any other activity with snow or ice that could
be harmful.
