DUNST
Jesus,
you said that it is by our love that we are
known to be your followers.
Give me the courage to accept your call to
love one another, as you love me.
Allow me to understand that to be of service,
to give myself to others,
I must first know and love you.
Help me to share in your self-sacrificing
love.
May I understand your call to live in love, so
that I can live in you, and do God’s will.
We ask this with joy and gratitude,
Amen.
We continue our Lenten journey and as a community of faith we continue to reflect
and renew ourselves spiritually. We continue to engage in prayer, fasting and
almsgiving as we prepare for the celebration of Easter. The warmer weather reminds
us of new life and new beginnings.
The staff of St. Dunstan would like to wish the families of our community a prayerful
and peaceful Easter weekend.
Tentative Placements for September 2015
We will soon begin our planning for next September. This will include having staff meet to discuss the
appropriate placement for your child. As you know your child(ren) best, we appreciate your input
considering special needs for your child(ren)’s placement. Parents/guardians are asked to include in
your request the strengths and needs of your child along with a description of his/her type of
learning environment in which your child has experienced the most success. This is not intended to
arrange for a certain teacher or to avoid necessary combined grades.
WITH REGRET, REQUESTS FOR A PARTICULAR TEACHER WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
When we meet, we will consider all educational matters and if we can accommodate your wishes, we
will do so. Rest assured that we will take into account the consideration of student learning styles,
teacher instructional style and desirable and undesirable student combinations.
Your request to the attention of Mr. O’Neill will form part of our deliberation. This request must be
received no later than Friday, May 1, 2015 to be taken into consideration.
Please note: All staffing and class placements are tentative until the September enrolment is finalized.
Once again we will be experiencing a decrease in enrolment for September. This will result in a loss of
teaching staff and an increase in combined grades.
Are You Moving?
To help us with our planning for September 2015, it would be appreciated if you could let us know if
you will be moving out of our school area over the summer.
Library News
Author Visit
On Friday, April 10th St. Dunstan students in grades 1-8 will
have a visit from Canadian author Philip Roy. Roy has written
several books that have been nominated for a variety of
awards including the Silver Birch and Red Maple Awards. The
presentation will begin with Roy sharing his folk art
submarine and helicopter which he uses to discuss recycling
and creativity. He will then share some readings from his
novels with the students. A book order form went home with
each student in grades 1-8. If anyone wants to purchase one of
Philip Roy’s books, please remember to return the form with
the money by Wednesday April, 8th to Ms. Risavy in the library.
Reading Club Update
St. Dunstan’s junior and intermediate Reading Club members
have been busy reading many of the books from the Ontario
Library Association’s (OLA) Forest of Reading competition.
The students in the reading club will be voting for their
favourite book from the selection of readings on April 16 th.
These votes will be submitted to OLA and will help determine
the winner of both the Silver Birch (junior) and Red Maple
(intermediate) Awards. The OLA has also provided students
with the opportunity to take part in an art competition by
creating the artwork for the Forest of Reading Awards. Some
of the students in the Reading Club submitted artwork for this
competition and we wish them the best of luck!
Sacraments
Our grade 2 and 8 students will be
celebrating the sacraments of Confirmation and
First Communion during the months of May and
June. Please keep our students in your prayers
as they take this important step in their faith
journey.

Our Intermediate Division will be presenting the
Stations Of The Cross on Thursday, April 2nd at

Catholic Education Week begins on a
Sunday to highlight the partnership that
remains the foundation of Catholic
Education between our Catholic schools
and local Catholic parishes. Throughout
Catholic Education Week, we ask you to
reflect on the significance of Catholic
education’s presence and contribution in
our Church and in our society. We invite
all members of our community to
participate in the celebrations and
activities that will mark the celebration
of Catholic Education Week 2015 in our
schools. This year’s celebration is
entitled “Catholic Education: Exploring
The Paths Of Joy.”
This year’s five sub-themes, one for
each of the five days of Catholic
Education Week, help students to
understand the rich meaning of this
year’s theme:
Monday: Walking Together and
Sharing Our Story
Tuesday: Opening The Scriptures
Wednesday: Welcoming Others To
The Table
Thursday: Recognizing Jesus In The
Breaking Of The Bread
Friday: Proclaiming The Good News

HATS OFF 2 KIDZ- SICK KIDS Walk
Walk when you can…give what you can…
Supporting Pediatric Leukemia Research at The Hospital for Sick Children.
Together We Will.
On Thursday, May 7th all students from FDK to Grade 8 will be walking thoroughout
our neighbourhood to support this worthy cause. We have a number of students at our
school who are undergoing treatment for Pediatric Leukemia and we are asking for
your support. Students are asked to donate whatever they can. A large number of
schools in Dufferin-Peel are walking during Catholic Education Week.
School Council News
School Council is ending their Easter Chocolate
Fundraiser next week. A kick off assembly was held
on March 24th and all students are asked to return
their money and/or chocolates by April 7th.
Our next School Council meeting will be held on
Wednesday, April 8th at 6:30 pm in the library. All
parents are welcome to attend.
Dress Code
With the approach of the warm weather we would
like our students to be neat and comfortable for
learning. Students are expected to dress in a
manner and attire suitable for the occasion and
appropriate to the school environment. Boys must
wear full length T-shirts with a sleeve (no muscle
shirts or cut off T-shirts are allowed for regular
classes or Phys Ed). Girls are not to wear anything
strapless, spaghetti straps or have bare midriffs.
Shorts are allowed provided they are modest. No
short-shorts or cut-off jeans will be allowed.
EQAO Testing
The EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability
Office) testing of our Grade 3 and Grade 6
students will take place from May 25th to June
5th. Please try to avoid scheduling any doctor’s
appointments or anything else that will take your
child out of school during the testing dates. Tests
and materials cannot be given out to parents
prior to or during the testing. A letter to grade 3
and 6 parents with further information will be
sent home closer to the testing dates.
Lost And Found
We have a large amount of winter clothing in our
lost and found. Please encourage your children to
look through the clothing to find any articles of
lost clothing. Any unclaimed clothing will be
donated to charity by April 17th.
Stations Of The Cross
Our Intermediate Division will be presenting the
Stations Of The Cross on Thursday, April 2nd at
12:45 pm. All members of our community are
invited to attend.
PEDICULOSIS
We have begun to see more cases of head lice (Pediculosis) in our school. This is a problem which
occurs from time to time in each school. Unfortunately, in recent years, head lice have become
increasingly common throughout North America. They are parasites which have been common
among human beings for centuries. They are not connected in any way to dirt or neglect. Anyone
can be infested. In order to control these pests, we shall follow these procedures and request
your full co-operation. If cases are found in the classroom, we shall inform parents. We would
request that you check your own children and if you find them to be infested, we would ask that
you inform the school, and you contact the Peel Public Health Department for treatment
information. If your children do become infested by head lice, we will ask you to keep them out of
the school until after they have been treated with the correct shampoo and their hair is entirely
clear of both lice and nits (eggs). Students will not be permitted to return to class until they have
been checked by the office. If we all co-operate in these procedures, we may not entirely escape
outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under control quickly. For additional information,
guidance and any questions please contact Peel Public Health Department at 905.799.7700. As
well you may find the following website useful www.headlice.org. bring them under control
quickly.
