Give me the courage to accept your call to love one another, as you love me. Allow me to understand that to be of service, to give myself to others, I must first know and love you. Help me to share in your self-sacrificing love. May I understand your call to live in love, so that I can live in you, and do God’s will. We ask this with joy and gratitude, Amen. We continue our Lenten journey and as a community of faith we continue to reflect and renew ourselves spiritually. We continue to engage in prayer, fasting and almsgiving as we prepare for the celebration of Easter. The warmer weather reminds us of new life and new beginnings. The staff of St. Dunstan would like to wish the families of our community a prayerful and peaceful Easter weekend. Tentative Placements for September 2015 We will soon begin our planning for next September. This will include having staff meet to discuss the appropriate placement for your child. As you know your child(ren) best, we appreciate your input considering special needs for your child(ren)’s placement. Parents/guardians are asked to include in your request the strengths and needs of your child along with a description of his/her type of learning environment in which your child has experienced the most success. This is not intended to arrange for a certain teacher or to avoid necessary combined grades. WITH REGRET, REQUESTS FOR A PARTICULAR TEACHER WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. When we meet, we will consider all educational matters and if we can accommodate your wishes, we will do so. Rest assured that we will take into account the consideration of student learning styles, teacher instructional style and desirable and undesirable student combinations. Your request to the attention of Mr. O’Neill will form part of our deliberation. This request must be received no later than Friday, May 1, 2015 to be taken into consideration. Please note: All staffing and class placements are tentative until the September enrolment is finalized. Once again we will be experiencing a decrease in enrolment for September. This will result in a loss of teaching staff and an increase in combined grades. Are You Moving? To help us with our planning for September 2015, it would be appreciated if you could let us know if you will be moving out of our school area over the summer. Library News Author Visit On Friday, April 10th St. Dunstan students in grades 1-8 will have a visit from Canadian author Philip Roy. Roy has written several books that have been nominated for a variety of awards including the Silver Birch and Red Maple Awards. The presentation will begin with Roy sharing his folk art submarine and helicopter which he uses to discuss recycling and creativity. He will then share some readings from his novels with the students. A book order form went home with each student in grades 1-8. If anyone wants to purchase one of Philip Roy’s books, please remember to return the form with the money by Wednesday April, 8th to Ms. Risavy in the library. Reading Club Update St. Dunstan’s junior and intermediate Reading Club members have been busy reading many of the books from the Ontario Library Association’s (OLA) Forest of Reading competition. The students in the reading club will be voting for their favourite book from the selection of readings on April 16 th. These votes will be submitted to OLA and will help determine the winner of both the Silver Birch (junior) and Red Maple (intermediate) Awards. The OLA has also provided students with the opportunity to take part in an art competition by creating the artwork for the Forest of Reading Awards. Some of the students in the Reading Club submitted artwork for this competition and we wish them the best of luck! All members of our community are invited to attend. PEDICULOSIS We have begun to see more cases of head lice (Pediculosis) in our school. This is a problem which occurs from time to time in each school. Unfortunately, in recent years, head lice have become increasingly common throughout North America. They are parasites which have been common among human beings for centuries. They are not connected in any way to dirt or neglect. Anyone can be infested. In order to control these pests, we shall follow these procedures and request your full co-operation. If cases are found in the classroom, we shall inform parents. We would request that you check your own children and if you find them to be infested, we would ask that you inform the school, and you contact the Peel Public Health Department for treatment information. If your children do become infested by head lice, we will ask you to keep them out of the school until after they have been treated with the correct shampoo and their hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits (eggs). Students will not be permitted to return to class until they have been checked by the office. If we all co-operate in these procedures, we may not entirely escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under control quickly. For additional information, guidance and any questions please contact Peel Public Health Department at 905.799.7700. As well you may find the following website useful www.headlice.org. bring them under control quickly.
