WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
THE NEW TRANSLATION –
THE GLORIA
Next
Week
is
World
Mission
Sunday.
Every
parish across the
world will celebrate
World
Mission
Sunday next week. It is a global sign of the
Universal Church and mission. Your prayers and
donations will help support churches, hospitals,
schools and vocations in countries where the
Church is beginning, where it is new. World
Mission Sunday is our chance to assist Catholic
Communities throughout the world become self
sufficient and flourish. By sharing the gift of faith
we can bring hope and love to those who need it
most.
The
Gloria
(“Glory
to
God
in
the
highest”)
is
a
beautiful
and
ancient
hymn,
which
expands
on
a
line
from
the
New
Testament
(Luke
2:14).
The
text
of
the
Gloria
is
one
of
the
biggest
changes
in
the
new
Roman
Missal:
the
words
have
changed
so
much
that
it
was
necessary
to
compose
entirely
new
musical
settings.
We
have
already
begun
using
the
new
Gloria,
and
have
probably
noticed
some
of
the
differences
between
the
new
translation
and
the
old
one.
FRIENDS OF FRASSATI
The Friends of Frassati is a programme for
young men in grades 11 and 12 who are
interested in deepening their faith. Beginning
October 24 we gather one Monday evening a
month 6-8:30 p.m. at St. Marguerite d’Youville
Parish. Each evening includes a meal, discussion
of our faith and adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament. Interested young men should contact:
Fr. Steve at 905-792-9497
dyouvilleparish@sympatico.ca
The
change
to
“and
on
earth
peace
to
people
of
good
will”
from
“peace
to
His
people
on
earth”
may
seem
more
restrictive,
but
it
expresses
the
truth
that
our
willing
co‐operation
is
necessary
for
God’s
grace
to
bear
fruit.
God
does
not
force
any
of
His
gifts
on
humanity,
including
the
gift
of
peace.
Although
the
new
translation
may
seem
unnecessarily
repetitive
(“We
praise
you,
we
bless
you,
we
adore
you,
we
glorify
you,
we
give
you
thanks
for
your
great
glory”),
each
phrase
is
actually
slightly
different
from
the
others.
This
use
of
multiple
similar
expressions
God
shows
that
no
words
can
express
the
tremendous
majesty
of
God.
When
we
sing
or
say
the
Gloria,
we
honour
God’s
ineffable
greatness.
The
first
lines
of
the
Gloria
echo
the
angels’
message
108
to
the
shepherds,
announcing
the
birth
of
Christ
at
the
beginning
of
the
holy
Gospel
according
to
St.
Luke.
At
every
Eucharistic
celebration,
we
are
united
to
the
Church
glorious
in
heaven
and
the
angels
help
us
to
raise
a
joyful
hymn
of
praise
and
honour
to
God.
This
song
of
the
angels
is
used
on
all
Sundays
of
the
year,
except
those
during
Advent
and
Lent.
It
is
important
that
we
learn
the
new
Gloria
well
before
the
beginning
of
Advent,
so
that
we
will
be
ready
to
rejoice
with
the
angels
–
as
well
as
those
of
Catholic
brothers
and
sisters
who
don’t
attend
Holy
Mass
as
regularly
as
they
should
–
on
the
great
feast
of
Christmas!

of our tax dollars being spent on genuine healthcare, please
bring your friends and family and join us on Saturday,

important event. For more information please call CLC
