THE ROMAN MISSAL
A NEW TRANSLATION – WHY?
Did you know that the English translation of the
Mass is going to change? The texts we have now
have been in use since 1970 and later this Fall a
new translation is going to be phased in.
Until the early 1960s, Mass was celebrated in Latin
throughout the world. Wherever you happened to
be on Sunday the Mass would be celebrated in
the language you were used to. At the Second
Vatican Council, in the early 1960s, it was agreed
that parts of the Mass could be said in the
language of the country in which it was being
celebrated. There would be no fundamental
change to the Mass itself, just the language being
used. This would enable us to understand more
fully what was being said and help us to
participate more fully. An English translation was
made available as quickly as possible, but it was
intended to be temporary. A more considered
translation would be issued later. Now, some 40
years have since passed!
Using principles issued by Blessed Pope John Paul II
in 2002, a new translation was finally prepared. This
translation was agreed on by our bishops, has
been approved by the Vatican, and at last
parishes across North America will switch over on
November 27, 2011. The time between now and
then is a chance to reflect on the celebration of
the Eucharist and how it relates to our own life. In
addition to discussing the new translation in
homilies, special presentations and in our parish
bulletin, the Archdiocese of Toronto also has
extensive resources online for those who wish to
learn more. www.archtoronto.org/romanmissal
There will be a two-part Presentation by Cale Clarke at
108
St. Anne’s Church “Understanding the New Roman
Missal” on Sunday, October 16 and 30 from 7 p.m.8:30 p.m. in the Church.
ALPHA starts at St. Mary’s Church, Brampton,
on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
Junior Children’s Liturgy, which has been ministering to
the spiritual needs of our 3, 4 and 5-year-old children for the
last 7 years, experienced a sharp decrease in enrolment last
year. The church has redirected its human resources to other
ministries and has suspended Junior Liturgy for the 2011/12
season. Junior Children’s Liturgy will resume next year if
there is sufficient interest from families and volunteers.
Please continue to pray for our young children and families
Enjoy a Continental Breakfast as you Explore
the Meaning of Life through scripture and
videos by Nicky Gumbel.
ALPHA brings fellow believers into a more
personal relationship with Jesus while also
making new friendships.
It can also help those who have lost their
focus on their faith or who are searching for
the meaning of life.
Come alone or bring a friend. For more

St. Anne is elderly and needs our
respect. The hands of the statue in the
lobby are very delicate and her finger
has broken many times and cannot be
repaired again. So PLEASE be
considerate “LOOK, PRAY BUT PLEASE
DON’T TOUCH”. Your consideration is
greatly appreciated!
