Replacing Disk Drives for CE−7300 or CDM−4650 Document ID: 22847 Contents Introduction Prerequisites Requirements Components Used Conventions Configure Step−by−Step Instructions Verify Troubleshoot Related Information Introduction This document provides a sample configuration to repair dead disk drives in the Opal platform on Cisco 7300 Series Content Engines (CE−7300s) or Cisco 4650 Content Distribution Managers (CDM−4650s). Prerequisites Requirements There are no specific requirements for this document. Components Used The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions: • CDM−4650 that runs Application and Content Networking System (ACNS) 4.0 or later • CDM−4650 with a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) controller • CE−7320 and CE−7320−DC that run ACNS 4.0 or later The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command. Conventions For more information on document conventions, refer to the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions. Configure In this section, you are presented with the information to configure the features described in this document. Note: To find additional information on the commands used in this document, use the Command Lookup Tool (registered customers only) . Step−by−Step Instructions CDM−4650 When one physical disk goes bad, the system is still operable. You do not lose any data if you repair the disk before a second disk goes bad. Perform these steps to repair the disk: 1. Find out which disk drive is bad and record the disk ID. 2. Issue the reload command−line interface (CLI) command to reboot the box. 3. Turn off the box. 4. Replace the bad disk with a new blank disk that is of the same type and the same or larger capacity size. 5. Turn on the box, and log in. 6. Issue the disk raid−array repair disk XX command. Note: For XX , use the ID of the dead drive. The disk replacement process takes a very long time. Expect a degradation of performance during the disk replacement. Refer to Cisco ACNS Software, Release 4.1 for additional command information. CE−7320 and CE−7320−DC If one disk goes bad, you lose content and/or software. Disk00 is important because disk00 contains the software. If the bad disk is not disk00, you can replace the bad disk. Perform these steps to repair the disk: 1. Find out which disk drive is bad and record the disk ID. 2. Power down the CE. 3. Replace the disk, and restart. 4. Issue the disk add disk XX command to create a new file system on the disk. The CE disks are Just a Bunch Of Disks (JBOD). Therefore, you do not need or want RAID. The dynamic content fills in automatically. Since storage of the software is on disk00, you need to reinstall software on disk00 after you replace that drive with a blank disk. Issue the copy ftp install command to perform the reinstallation. For this process, you must have the .bin image file on an FTP server that is accessible by the CE. You also need to perform the process from the CE console. Issue the EXEC mode CLI. Note: You lose all content, which includes your configuration and logs, on the disk00. Verify There is currently no verification procedure available for this configuration. Troubleshoot There is currently no specific troubleshooting information available for this configuration.
