FIRST UH EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TOWN HALL DEEMED A SUCCESS
Houston, Sept. 17, 2012 – The University of Houston
Emergency Management Bureau of the Department of
Public Safety conducted its first Emergency Management
Town Hall on Sept. 12.
September is National Preparedness Month and the
University of Houston wanted to get out there and educate
the campus community on how to make a plan, build a kit
and stay informed.
Presentations by the Emergency Management Bureau,
Harris County, City of Houston, National Weather Service,
UH Fire Marshal’s Office and the UH Police Department were offered at the Town Hall.
The agencies hosted numerous information tables with preparedness and outreach information
on how to stay prepared for just about any type of emergency. Participants were able to pick up
flashlights, brochures, preparedness DVDs and much more.
Participants came from as far away as Pasadena to receive
information and to learn something new. Members of the
Student Government and Staff Council gathered information
for the councils.
Joe Mendez, M.P.A., M.S., Director of Emergency
Management noted, “We had a great turnout. My staff –
Kelly Boysen and Ginger Walker – make collaboration an
art and will make next year’s event even better, with a focus
on networking and communications.”
