Division of Administration and Finance University Services News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Richard Zagrzecki Communications Coordinator 832-842-4722 rzagrzec@central.uh.edu LATEST ADDITION TO PUBLIC ART COLLECTION INSTALLED AT UH-CLEAR LAKE Houston, April 5, 2013 – The latest addition to the public art collection for the UH System comes from a familiar face at the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus. Sandria Hu, a professor of art at UH-Clear Lake since 1975, created “Archeological White and Black.” The abstract painting, which measures 4 feet by 13 feet, was installed March 23 on the second floor of the Student Services Building. Mike Guidry, the curator of the Public Art Collection for the UH System, said the piece, like all of Hu’s work, references landscape. “It’s abstracted imagery, but she looks at all the details of the landscape. She looks at everything from the dirt to the trees and digests all of that and puts in into her work,” Guidry said. The Percent for the Art program was established in 1966 and earmarks 1 percent of the construction budget for every new UH System building to go toward funding art.
