Epiphany Prayer
Lord Jesus,
As you led the Three Kings to You by
the light of the star, please draw us ever
closer to You by the light of the Faith.
Help us to desire You as ardently as
they did. Give us the grace to overcome
all obstacles that keep us far from You.
May we, like them, have something to
give You when we appear before You.
Mary, Our Mother, help us to know
Your Son.
Amen
Eco Conscientious School
Congratulations to the students and staff of
Corpus Christi on the incredible efforts put
forth to reduce waste during our WasteFree Challenge Week in October! As a
school we cut our waste almost 50%, with
some classes making a remarkable reduction of 90%! Our enthusiasm and embracement of this challenge is being recognized
by the Recycling Council of Ontario with a
$100 grant to support our environmental
projects here at Corpus Christi.
Please do not escort students directly to
class; rather, report to the main office.
It is important for the safety of all students
in the school that parents wear a visitor’s
sticker. Please always sign in at the office
and obtain your visitor’s sticker. It takes
only a minute to help keep your children
safe. Students and staff feel safer when a
visitor’s sticker is visible on unfamiliar faces
as well as familiar ones. Your cooperation
is appreciated.

Being consistently and continuously late interrupts
theclassroom during lessons, creates delays in the office
and sets a poor example for those who do arrive on time.
Please note that issues with lates and absenteeism will be
dealt with strictly, and may involve the school Administration, Child Youth Worker and Social Worker. Please help
us teach your children the value of promptness.

Emergency Contact
Please ensure the school has updated information with
regards to emergency contacts and phone numbers.
Have you moved?
If you have changed your phone number(s), address or
workplace it is im p erative that you notify the school
promptly. It is extremely important that our records be
current and up-to-date. In the event of an emergency, we
must be able to contact you immediately.
Minimizing Disruptions to Classes
We appreciate continued parental help and support in minimizing disruptions to classes, whenever possible. By trying our best not to disturb classes, except in very important
situations, we are reducing disruptions to quality teaching
and learning time. To this end, we ask the following:


Please call to register an absence - 905-897
-7037, press 1 for the attendance. You can 
call 24hrs. An answering machine is
available to take information. Please provide your child’s name, grade and teach- 
er’s name. If an absence is not reported,
our policy is to call home to verify student absenteeism. A parent or guardian must sign out students who leave early. A reminder to parents and students
that an expectation set out from the beginning of the year
clearly states that all students must arrive to school on
If you wish to discuss something with your child’s
teacher, we ask that you set up an appointment with
the teacher. Approaching the teacher, before, during
and/or after school makes it difficult for the teacher to
focus on her/his students. This also becomes a safety
issue. Please leave a message with the office and the
teacher will call you back.
If your child is late please have him/her report to the
office. PLEASE DO NOT ESCORT YOUR CHILD TO
CLASS.
Send a note in advance, to your child’s teacher when
your child needs to be picked up early, then meet them
in the office and sign them out.
If delivering lunches to your child at school, write your
child’s and their teacher’s names on lunch bags and
leave them on the table in the front foyer. This would
be greatly appreciated.

For student who do take the bus:
It is a fact that bad weather may cause delays for student
pick up at bus stops. Please sensure that your child has a
safe place to go if the bus is late or does nto arrive. If you
notice that a student is stranded at a bus stop, please
attempt to contact the child’s parent. It is NOT recommended that parents volunteer to drive another child to
school without the permission of the child’s parent.
If you decide to transport your child to school because buses have been cancelled, please ensure that you have made
arrangements for their return home at the end of the school
day.
Late Buses
These announcements may take one of three forms:
During the winter months inclement
weather may cause disruption of bus
transportation and regular school operations. A decision to cancel school transportation and/or to close schools is usually
made by 6:00 a.m. and will be announced
over local radio and television networks. As the weather

Emergency School Procedure
There may be days during the upcoming months when
inclement weather presents a potential safety hazard to our
students. It is essential that parents and children discuss
the procedures that they wish to follow for safe arrival at
home.
For students that do not take the bus please determine:
1. the best way to walk home;
2. With who the child should walk;
3. Where the child should go if there is no one at home;
4. How the child should seek help if wind and snow are
so strong that they cannot see the way home;
rived and wait for information regarding arrival.
Lost and Found
The “Lost and Found Boxes”, located in the school are a
good place to start looking for missing items. Periodically,
we remind students to check the box for any items they
may have lost. Please remind your child(ren) to check the
Lost and Found Boxes if anything is lost.
Dressing For Winter
While we have been blessed with moderate Fall weather,
we can expect this to change at any time. Please assist us in
encouraging the children to dress adequately for this
weather. When on yard supervision, teachers are checking,
not only on the activities/games children play, but also noting that they are wearing boots, hats, gloves and scarves
when necessary. Except when the weather is extremely
cold or wet, the students will be going outside during the
recess and lunch periods. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School policy states that consideration should be given
for keeping students indoors during recesses when the
wind chill reaches –20C. At –25C students will be kept indoors. Playing outdoors is a pleasant & healthy activity
when students are wearing suitable clothing. For the
younger students, it would be helpful if parents were to
label items of clothing with their child’s name, so that each
person can more easily locate his/her own clothing from
the class coat rack area. Each term, items make their way to
the Lost and Found and are never claimed. Labelled items
can be returned more easily and mixed up items sorted out
more readily. If your child brings home an item by mistake,
please return it to the school so that this mix up may be
corrected the next day!
Indoor Shoes
Soon we will begin to
experience wet and
slushy weather.
In order to avoid tracking mud, water and
snow into the classroom, it will be necessary for each student to
have a pair of indoor
running shoes. Students will change into this additional
pair of shoes as soon as they come to their class. We are
also requesting that the shoes the students will wear indoors, have LIGHT coloured soles so that there will be no
black scuff marks on the floors .
We appreciate your assistance in this endeavor.
Student Illness—Staying in During Recess
Students who are ill should be kept
home where they are most comfortable and can get better, sooner. A
child who is too ill to go out for recess is too ill to be at school. Your
co-operation to keep your child
home when he/she is ill is appreciated.
Snow Stays on the Ground
As the winter weather begins, students
are reminded that “Snow Stays on the
Ground”. Every child in the school
will be made aware of the importance
of this rule in preventing injury to others. Students are encouraged to constructively use the snow that winter
brings to build snowmen, forts, snow
sculptures, etc. Please assist us by reviewing with your
child the dangers of throwing snowballs and the importance of preventing injury to other children. Together
we will continue to create a school yard which is safe for all
during winter.
Collecting of money for Pizza Days, School Trips, etc.
Please ensure that when you are
submitting money with your child
for trips, food orders, etc. to please
treat them separately and send in the
exact change. (We are not able to
provide change or tamper with money in envelopes). Please do not combine siblings or single child orders
together. This creates confusion for our Accounting Department. Your co-operation in this matter is appreciated.
Toonie Tuesday and Fabulous Fridays
Once again our school will be having Toonie Tuesdays and
Fabulous Fridays. All items being sold will be sold at $1
each. It’s called Toonie Tuesdays because generally speaking some students will purchase a Cookie from Terracotta
Cookies and Milk or juice for a total of $2. All funds raised
will go towards supporting school activities and events.
PARENTS CORNER
Anti-Bullying Presentation for Students
Friday, January 31st, 2014
Jamie Allison is a ten-year veteran of the NHL, who has
been in over two hundred fights on the ice (although he has
never been in one off the ice). Jamie impacts the kids in a
way no one else could and he commands instant respect
because of his past experiences. He powerfully and honest-
ly shares with the kids about his own journey, which practically demonstrates that all negative emotions can be effectively channeled in a positive direction by making smarter
choices. He will be visiting our students from Grades 1 to 8
and delivering his anti-bullying message on Friday, January 31st, 2014 at 9:15 am in the school gym. Parents are
welcome to attend.

God has given us the ability to choose. We are able to control how we react to what happens around us. We’ve all
“lost it” at one time or another. We are never proud of
those moments. As soon as they happen we make a promise that they will not happen again. Through prayer and
concentration, we can get better at controlling our reactions. We can get better at showing self control. When we
all use self-control, we can be sure that our school will be a
safe, caring, and inclusive place to live and learn.
