CANADIAN HISTORY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY CHC2D1 EXAM REVIEW EXAM FORMAT Your Final Exam will appear in the following format. SECTION 1 KNOWLEDGE 30 MARKS MULTIPLE CHOICE • You will be required to circle the correct answer (4 choices) for each question or statement on the Exam Paper and Scantron. • The questions/statements will vary in type and may include quotations or readings. • All the questions/statements in this section will come from the first half of the course, up to and including WWII. SECTION 2 THINKING 27 MARKS A. SEQUENCE (16 marks) • You will be given 2 separate sections of Canadian History to put in proper chronological order. • You will be required to put 8 historical individuals and 8 historical events in order of occurrence. • This section will span the entire course. Example: Instructions: Place the events in Column A in the order they occurred in Column B. Column A Suez Crisis Ypres Juno Beach Rwanda Column B B. READING SELECTION (11 marks) • This section is modeled around the Grade 10 Literacy Test. • You will be given a short reading passage and answer questions. • You will be required to answer Multiple Choice Questions as well as Short Answer. • This section deals with issues after WWII but the short answer questions may refer to all of Canadian History. SECTION 3 APPLICATION 25 MARKS A. POLITICAL CARTOON ANALYSIS (15 marks) • In this section, you will be given a Political Cartoon from an issue in Canadian History post 1945 but may be tied or connected to issues we have discussed throughout the course. • You will be required to analyze the cartoon by answering these 3 specific questions: A. Identify two (2) symbols within this political cartoon and clearly state what each symbol represents (2 X 2 marks =4 marks) B. State the message of this cartoon. Make sure to include specific historical facts to support your response. (6 marks) C. Based on the bias portrayed in this cartoon, describe the frame of reference of the artist that created it. Explain. (5 marks) B. PROPAGANDA POSTER (10 marks) • In this section, you will be given a Propaganda Poster from pre WWII Canadian History. • You will be required to analyze the poster by answering these 3 specific questions: A. Who is the intended audience? How do you know? (3 marks) B. What emotion(s) is the poster trying to invoke in the audience? How is the poster doing this? (3 marks) C. What objective did the government hope to achieve by creating this specific poster? Explain your answer. ( 4 marks) SECTION 4 COMMUNICATION 25 MARKS WRITING A SERIES OF PARAGRAPHS • • • • This section is modeled around the Grade 10 Literacy Test. You will be required to write a minimum of (4) four paragraphs expressing an opinion on (1) one of (3) three possible topics. A mark scheme will be present to help guide your response. The questions span the entire course and deal with larger issues/themes that we have discussed throughout the course. TOPICS TO REVIEW This course spans a great deal of time and information. It is extremely important that you do attempt to review all your notes leading up to the exam as there are so many links and connections to be made between each of the time periods we have studied. Remember we are looking at Canada’s growth as a nation in this course; our evolution in various ways throughout the Twentieth Century.
