OUR SCHOOL MISSION
Hilliard Elementary educates for excellence by creating an environment that promotes globally-minded,
compassionate, life-long learners who are knowledgeable and socially responsible.
August 2014
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I hope everyone had a safe and
enjoyable summer. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the new
families joining us this year and a big welcome back to our old friends! My name is
Kathy Nash and I will be your child’s classroom teacher. I look forward to starting my
15th year at Hilliard Elementary! I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Special
Education at Ohio University and received my Master’s degree in Early Childhood
Special Education at Cleveland State University. I live in a Townhouse in Avon Lake
with my buddy Keegan ~ a 10 ½ year old Airedale Terrier! I had a wonderful time this
summer traveling to Minnesota, Denver and Vancouver BC!
Play is the work of children and this year your child will be a very busy worker. Daily
activities will include working on individual goals; speech and language development,
small group activities, fine and gross motor skills, structured playtime, music and art
activities. I will send home newsletters that will give you details of the planned
activities and International Baccalaureate principals that will be targeted during each
lesson. Please take a few minutes each evening to discuss these activities with your
child.
Bassett, Dover, Hilliard and Holly Lane Elementary Schools will be recognized by the
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as pursuing authorization for the
Primary Years Programme (PYP). IB World Schools are schools that share a
common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international
education that Westlake Elementary Schools believe is important for our students.
Take a look at IB around the schools. Check out this site.

Parents are the first and most important teachers in their child’s life. I ask that you
please be sure to keep the Preschool team informed of the events in your child’s life.
I encourage regular communication through a communication notebook, by email or
by phone. I invite you to observe our classroom so that you can see your child in
action! Please contact me at least 24 hours ahead of your desired visit. We have
many visitors and therapists on a daily basis and I want your visit to be beneficial to
you, as well as the children.
