PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:
Thanks to all who came out and made our Open/House BBQ such a huge success. Thanks to our
School Advisory Council who hosted this event and the Knights of Columbus- St. Christopher
Church who manned the BBQs! (our school council is always looking for support for events – if
you would like to become involved – see me am bus duty – we have a lot of great events
scheduled for this 2015-2016 and an extra pair of hands makes the world of difference!!!!)
That evening much discussion happened around Staffing at St. Louis- as we did re-organize and
were reduced by one classroom.
Thanksgiving gives us all the opportunity to stop and reflect on the many blessings bestowed
upon us by God in our lives. In our Catholic schools, it is always important to remember to be
grateful for the Catholic Faith that is integrated into all aspects of our learning, and in turn, into our
entire being. At this time, we take a moment to thank God for all He has given to us. We will
begin our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive the first week in October.
Our staff has begun work towards achieving the goals that we have set for ourselves and our
students. Our focus this year, will be improvement in the instruction of Mathematics across all
three divisions and instruction using Student Inquiry. These goals are ones which we believe are
well within the capabilities of our students and therefore readily attainable. We look forward to
establishing a baseline of achievement this year for our students. With your continued support
and co-operation, we are sure to experience a very successful first year!
Fr- Sauvuer – from Haiti – visited our school with Carolyn Burles – Sacramental Leader of St.
Christopher Parish – and we heard Fr. Sauveur talk about the plans they have for the elementary
school in Haiti. We promised as a community to write letter to these students and to raise money
for the construction of this school. So far we have raised $147.00 by selling cotton candy at our
Open House / BBQ. We will keep you posted as to the activities the students and staff have
planned for this very worthy campaign.
Virtues Education – will continue this year. A virtue is a habit or established capacity to perform
good actions according to a moral standard. St. Louis is an ideal place to practice and prepare to
live a virtuous life. When we demonstrate these virtues, we are making the presence of God
visible in the world around us. More information is available to students and parents in student
agenda. Empathy is October’s Virtue – which is an attitude that encourages us to involve God
in our lives and helps us develop and maintain relationships with God and with others.

STORAGE OF MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
In order for the school to store and/or administer medication, your doctor must complete a form
provided by the school. Students are not allowed to have medication of any kind at school,
unless it is stored in the front office. If there is a reason that the student must carry their
medication (eg. Epi-Pen for emergency administration or asthma puffers), please pick up a form
at the office and have it completed by your doctor. A medical alert photo identification sheet will
be completed for your child – and posted in your child’s classroom, our staffroom, and our
office/health room.
As children grow, their health status sometimes changes. We therefore, request revised forms
each year. If your child has developed any sensitivities or allergies or other medical needs, we
must know about these in the interest of their safety. Please send a note in to us to update your
child’s records if necessary. All stored medication will be sent home upon request - in June 2015.
Sabrina’s Law –ANAPHLAXIS REACTION
St. Louis school makes every attempt to be an allergen aware school. Student Photo/Fact
sheets are posted in three places in our school There are a number of our students who
suffer from severe and life threatening allergies. For this reason, we will alert parents of
students in your son’s/daughter’s classroom who do have life threatening allergies – and we
will ask that parents refrain from sending foods with the allergen in it to school as a part of a
school lunch. This information will be provided in the next few weeks, and will be specific to
classrooms. For this reason, we enforce a “NO OUTSIDE FOOD POLICY” which
means no cupcakes, no Hallowe’en/Easter candy and no sharing snacks. Classroom
celebrations which involve the sharing of food will have a Permission to Participate
WAIVER form will be sent home prior to the celebrations.
B St. Louis continues to maintain the position that schools should discourage parents/guardians from sending
peanut butter substitutes to school where students have peanut allergies for the following reasons:
If a child with a life-threatening peanut allergy sees it, they may experience anxiety and/or physical panic
reaction as a result of visually seeing the WOWBUTTER, or at minimum, the child and his or her family
members may have safety concerns about the product being in school;
2 It can create significant challenges for teachers, and especially students, to identify real peanut
butter from the substitute;
3 If one student sees another with WOWBUTTER, they may believe it is peanut butter, and may take the message
hhome that it is acceptable to bring peanut butter, and may bring their own peanut butter to school
4) The presence of this look-alike can create potential circumstances of bullying / threats
PROFESSIONAL
toward
students
with life-threatening peanut allergies.
Student
Dismissal
Only parents of a student will be allowed to pick up a child. A
parent may release this responsibility to one of the identified
emergency contact persons with a phone call to the school or
a note sent to the teacher identifying the “new” adult. These
students must be picked up at the front office and may be
asked to show identification. Calls to parents will occur when
the office has concerns for the child’s safety.
Lunch Hour Policy
Our lunch hour is from 11:30 to 12:30pm
Children who stay for lunch – will eat inside for the
first 20 minutes and then play outside for the
remaining 40 minutes – weather permitting.
If a student has an appointment – student must be
signed out by parent.
Students who stay for lunch must do so everyday.
Lunch table is located under the SAC information
board in front hall for lunch drop-off
Many allergies exist in our school – for that reason
there is no sharing of food – a letter outlining
classroom allergies will be sent home Sept 11, 2015to all affected classrooms- and after re-organization

PARENTS/ADULTS IN THE SCHOOL YARD
It is difficult for the staff supervising in the schoolyard, to distinguish between parents and strangers. We are asking for your
cooperation in dropping the students off during the supervised times of 8:15am and 3:00pm, and letting them be with their
friends. With only staff in the schoolyard, the easier it is to identify a stranger in the yard. Once students are in the school,
parents are encouraged to leave school property as soon as possible so that the students are not distracted from classroom
activities. During the school day, there should be no parents in the schoolyard area at all. Parent may wait along the
Kindergarten fenced area – south yard- before school /end of day. If your child is late, please bring him/her to the Office.
There should not be any parents in the halls or classrooms without prior knowledge of the Office during school hours.
Parent volunteers will sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. It is a matter of safety. Thank you for your co-operation.

Dear Madame or Sir;
Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) are cordially inviting you, your
students and parents to one of our public open houses being held October 6 th, 7th and
8th from 4:30pm-8:00pm at our fire stations. These open houses are part of MFES’s
Fire Prevention Week public fire safety educational events that have been schedule
around the city.
The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “hear the beep, where you sleep”
“every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm”.
In addition, as part of Mayor Crombie’s city wide program to combat hunger, all MFES
fire stations will be collecting items for the food bank. As a token of appreciation, COBS
Bread has donated vouchers for a free loaf of bread to anyone who brings a food bank
item. The vouchers are in limited quantity so attend early.
The fire stations will be hosting fun and interactive evenings featuring fire trucks- tools
and equipment displays, meet the firefighters, fire safety education information to keep
your families safe as well as goodies to take home. At some our stations you can
experience the fire safety trailer and practice your home escape plan in a simulated
environment.
