We will nurture our unique gifts and entrust each member to serve. Alternative School # 905-890-0708 Press 7 then 54200 When you are going to be away call the school each day When we wake up every morning we should remember how fortunate we truly are to live in the great country and have the advantages that we some times take for granted. These are the advantages that the vast majority of the world population has never and will never experience. We also remember that on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. during our moment of silence, we turn our minds to the many brave men and women who gave their lives in order that we could enjoy our freedom and the opportunities that we have. We will be reflecting in the upcoming weeks with all of our students on this theme leading up to our Remembrance Day celebration at 10:30 in our gym. Parents please join us for this important celebration if you are able. On November 25 we will celebrate 25 years of great history as a school. We will be opening our school doors to all who have journeyed through our halls and classrooms as students, staff and parents and once again remember our days at St. Leonard. Finally we should remember that this month we celebrate the virtue of “Conscience”. We will teach the students that a conscience is the voice of God within us that will guide us when we make all of our decisions. We will be teaching our students that when we listen to this voice, God helps us to be good people. This month let us remember R. Romanet School Council Elections Our School Council elections have been held. Our school council for 2010—2011 is as follows: School Council Chair: M. Podnar Parent Representatives Treasurer: L. Please remind your children to follow proper hand washing techniques to avoid spreading of germs. A reminder to please call the school every day your child is away. The human voice can never reach the distance that is covered by the still small voice of conscience. Winter Dress/Recess/Indoor Shoes Winter Dress/Recess/ Extra Indoor Shoes Please note that except when the winter weather is extremely cold or wet, students will be expected to go outside during recess and lunch breaks. Exceptions will be considered only with a doctor’s note. Most children who are too ill to go outside should be resting at home and not exposing others to germs. Students should come dressed appropriately to go us from having to contact you at work. If is also helpful that our younger students carry a spare pair of underwear, socks and track pants in case they get wet outside or have an “accident”. This will save Virtue of the Month—Conscience God has given us the ability to know the right and decent way to act and then to act that way. We trust that the common Spirit we share inspires us and guides us to make good decisions if we allow our conscience to be well-formed. A person of conscience…. Chooses to do the ‘right thing’ and feels good about it Can see how his/her actions may hurt others Admits his/her wrong-doings and feels badly Says ‘sorry’ and tries to make up for mistakes Keeps promises Mahatma Gandhi outdoors, which includes hats, boots, scarves and gloves. As rainy and winter weather approaches, we remind everyone to bring an extra pair of running shoes to be kept at school for classroom and gym use. A person of Conscience allows prayer and scripture to influence him/her. We instill independence in all our students Thursday, November 26th is a Professional Development day. There is no school for students on this day. To further promote independence and safety we would ask parents not to escort their children to their classroom when arriving late. My fear is that one day it may not be a parent entering our school and walking the halls.
