Virtue of the Month—Respect This month we will celebrate the virtue of respect. A respectful person… Treats herself/himself and everyone else with equal consideration and courtesy Uses a positive tone of voice and body language Avoids sweating, name-calling, put-downs and inappropriate gestures Says “excuse me”, please”, “pardon me” Avoids gossip Reminders: Punctuality School begins at 8:30 a.m. It has been noted that there continue to be a number of students who arrive late to school. Whenever a student is not here in time to line up with their class during entry, they are considered late. It is also a disruption to the class if students walk in after their class has started. Arriving on time is a life skill which our students need for future success. Please ensure students arrive on time. Extra Shoes/Clothes Rainy and wintry weather is here. We remind everyone to bring an extra pair of running shoes to be kept at school for classroom and gym use. For our smaller students, an extra pair of track pants tucked into a backpack is helpful on those days when students accidently become “wet”. Winter Weather At times we receive requests to allow students to stay indoors when they have a cold, flu, etc. Please note that we are unable to comply unless we have a doctor‟s note since we do not have the staff or the facilities to supervise these students . If a child is too ill to go outside for recess, we request they remain home until they are healthy enough to join in the regular activities of the school. On extremely cold days, when the wind chill equivalent temperature is minus 20 degrees Celsius or lower, students will stay inside as per Peel Health Department guidelines. Dates to Remember: Winter Safety in the School Yard In order to avoid injury and to help ensure student safety, students are reminded regularly to play safely in the school yard. Students are reminded not to throw snowballs, or kick snow, as well as to stay off snow hills and off any ice patches. Play fighting and contact sports are not allowed. Students are reminded to report problems to the teacher, rather than taking matters into their own hands. The Creative Playground will be closed until further notice. There are pupils in attendance who suffer from severe and life threatening allergies to certain foods, such as peanut and nut products. Exposure to the smallest quantities can cause severe life threatening allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more body systems. We would appreciate the co-operation of the entire school community by Not sending any lunches or snacks that contain nut products which could potentially harm a pupil. Please make sure that all of your children‟s caregivers are aware of the food restrictions. Please avoid sending food for birthday or special occasions. There are many alternatives such as stickers and pencils. If you have any questions please talk to your child‟s teacher or the school staff. We look forward to our co-operation in making this a safe year for all our pupils. Please note: Nutella is a nut product and should not be brought to school. Pediculosis (Head Lice) Pediculosis is a problem which occurs from time to time each year in schools If cases are found we inform all parents of the class involved by letter. If a child is infected, we request that she/he be kept out of school until she/he has been treated with the correct medicated shampoo. Please keep us informed if this happens to your child. For information on treatment of lice—please check out the link on our website. Handicap Parking We only have one handicap parking space in our parking lot. Unless you have a handicap parking permit in your car, please do not park there. There is a heavy fine for parking in a handicap spot if you do not have a permit. We had a parent with a permit unable to park there on two occasions because someone had parked in the spot. Please remember that the driveway is a fire route and no parent should be parking in there to pick up or drop off their children. Please make use of the parking spots, the street or the church parking lot. 6
