L6P 1W3 2 March is 3 25 Mount Royal Circle Sonia Rotino Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God – and so every person is our brother or sister through Jesus Christ. As brothers and sisters who share one Holy Spirit, we are all valuable to God. We all deserve to be shown concern for our welfare and our feelings. We have all been given the fruit of the Spirit called kindness. Kindness can only be seen through actions. It’s not enough to say I will be kind or I am kind. We must show that we are kind by our words and our actions. We found some improper items in classroom recycling bins. We will continue to have announcements and in-class presentations by the ECOTeam and Brampton Clean City to remind students about proper recycling and to praise classes that have been recycling correctly. Brampton Clean City will also be presenting workshops at our school in March on Global Warming & Energy and Water Conservation. Also, they will be working closely with our ECOTeam to complete a waste audit. Additionally, our “Take Back The Tap” campaign continues and we continue to encourage the Lourdes community to bring in reusable water bottles!!! Stay tuned for more ECOTeam initiatives for Earth Month. Pizza days are on Wednesday March 6, 20 and 27. All pizza lunches have been pre-ordered with the forms provided at the beginning of this term. THANK YOU VERY MUCH... We would like to thank the School Council for the delicious Lenten Pancake dinner on Shrove Tuesday. It was a wonderful opportunity for school staff and community members to get together. We would like to thank the Student Council for organizing our Valentine dance that was held on February 14. Thank you to Daniel Kersnik for acting as DJ for the event. The students had a great time! Every student received a small Valentine treat, courtesy of Student Council. We would like to thank the Iezzi family for their generous donation of soccer balls for our students’ use at recess when activities are sometimes limited. SHARELIFE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE The ShareLife Community Challenge is a unique and exciting opportunity offered by a generous donor who is committed to matching dollar for dollar up to $800 000 in new and increased donations to the 2013 ShareLife campaign. More than ever, the agencies are facing increased demands for service and longer waiting lists. The generosity of this donor provides an opportunity to make a significant impact when more people are turning to ShareLife agencies for help. We will be offering the students the opportunity to purchase green ShareLife bracelets at the school, with all proceeds going to ShareLife. Thank you for your ongoing support. UNDERSTANDING KEY ISSUES IN CATHOLIC EDUCATION When were the obstacles to the existence of Catholic schools removed from the legislation? The United Legislature of Canada East and Canada West in 1853, 1855 and 1863 removed all four obstacles to the existence of Catholic schools. There was no more double taxation so Catholics did not have to continue paying common school taxes—they only paid separate school taxes. It did not matter if there was a Catholic teacher in the common school. The separate school board did not need the permission of the common school board to open a new or additional separate school. The number of Catholic heads of family to establish a separate school was lowered from twelve to five. As a result, the number of separate schools grew considerably. EQAO TESTING Administration of Grade 3 and 6 Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics 2012-2013 will be held May 27–June 7, 2013. Specific dates will be forthcoming. Please try to avoid vacations or the booking of appointments for your grade 3 or 6 child during this assessment period.
