1- Scope ,
This standard cancels and replaces IGS-M-PL-016(1) : 2000and specifies
NIGC requirements for Electrofusion welding machine for use with PE
Electrofusion fittings, portable, manual and auto setting with barcode
detection system , suitable for Electrofusion weld of P.E pipes and fittings
SDR 11, P.E 80 or SDR 13.5 , P.E 100 for dimension range of 25- 225 mm
and temperature range of -10 °C to +45 °C , ± 2 °C.
2- Normative References ,
Throughout this standard specification the following standards and codes that
are in effect at the time of issues of this specification (2007) shall, to the
extent specified herein, form part of this specification.
The applicability of changes in standards and codes that occur after the date
of standards that referred shall be mutually agreed upon by the purchaser and
supplier and/or manufacturer.

EN 1555 Parts 2,3 : 2002 ; Plastic piping system for gaseous fuels
supply P.E.
ISO 8085-3 : 2001; Polyethylene fitting for use with polyethylene pipes
for the supply of gaseous fuel-Metric series- Specifications- Part 3 :
Electrofusion fittings.
IEC 60529 :1989; Degrees of protection provided by enclosures ( IP
Code).
ISO 12508 :1994, Safety of earth-moving machinery-Part 18 :
Specification for bluntness of edges at the operator station and in
maintenance areas.
3- Definitions
3-1- Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR),
The ratio of outer diameter of pipe to wall thickness of pipe.
3-2 – PE 80,
Material having minimum required strength ( MRS ) 8 N/mm2 .
3-3- PE 100,
Material having minimum required strength ( MRS ) 10 N/mm2 .
4 – Requirements
4-1 General requirements,
An Electrofusion welding machine comprises a control panel and the
regulation system which shall be integrated in a single unit.
The required accuracy of operation shall be maintained within -10 °C to +45
°C , ± 2 °C for at least 12 months without the need for adjustment of the
control unit.

The welding machine shall be capable to display following data :
- Input voltage .
- Input frequency .
- variable output voltage .
- Fusion cycle timer .
- Ambient temperature .
-Fitting specifications ( Type of fitting , Dimension ,Fusion time ,
Fusion countering number, welder ID, Date and time, Cooling time ).
The automatic control unit shall also be capable to work with portable
generators with regulated voltage , frequency and minimum power rating as
per the requirements of Normative Annex .
4-2 Display ,
Monitoring data shall be displayed in English and preferably in both English
and Persian languages.
4-3 Cables,
Input cable should be permanently attached. A cable winding or storage
facility shall be provided on the control unit.
- The nominal length of the permanently attached input cable shall be at
least 10 meters.
- The nominal length of the output cable(s) shall be at least 4 meters. The
output cable(s) shall be capable of Sensing the applied voltage and
transmission of a feedback signal.
4-4 Cable connectors,
Dimensions of electrical terminals and adaptors shall be of normal size and
suitable for other manufacturers (type A1 ,4 ± 0.03 mm and type A2, 4.7
±0.03 mm according to EN 1555-3 ).
The design of the connectors shall provide protection against direct
human contact when connected to the fitting during the fusion cycle.
4-5 Memory ,
The memory may be either an integral or removal part of the unit with
recording capacity of at least 200 fusion records to be printed.
The following data is necessary to be shown in the printed output:

4-6 IP Protection ,
The ingress protection class of the welding machine shall meet at least IP 54.
4-7 Data input,
The welding machine shall have the option for auto input of fusion data via
barcode pen and manually as an alternative ,but the operator could have
only enter the barcodes data which are printed on the fitting barcodes
manually. Entering of constant fusion data like voltage and cycle time shall
not be permitted manually unless the control unit does correct the fusion
time based on the environment temperature.
4-8 Body,
The body may be metallic or nonmetallic, heavy duty ,complete with robust
metallic frame .
Any exposed edges which might reasonably be brought in contact with the
hand during normal adjustment or usage shall be smooth.
Provision shall be made by manufacturer for sealing of the machine in order
to prevent tampering by unauthorized persons.
4-9 Nameplate,
Nameplate shall be aluminum and permanently attached on the body ( not
using glue ) and must include following information :

Manufacturer's name, Model , Serial No. and Date.
Input voltage(s)
Output power.
Output voltage(s).
Operating temperature.
Order number( if it is ordered by NIGC).
4-10 Weight,
The total weight ( including input and output cables ) shall not be more than
25 Kg.
5 Safety requirements
5-1 live parts,
For voltage greater than 25 volts, direct human contact with live parts shall
not be possible during the fusion-jointing cycle when jointing is carried out in
accordance with the instructions of the fitting manufacturer.
5-2 Earth terminal ,
The welding machine shall be equipped with earth terminal and shall carry a
caution, on a label attached to the apparatus which clearly display the
following message :

5-3 Operator control switches,
The welding machine shall at least have the following operator control
board or a user-friendly keyboard:
- A START button, which shall be green.
- A STOP button , which shall be red .
The STOP button should operate in any fault condition and results physical
break in the output circuits.
6 Inspection
6-1 Drop test,
The welding machine shall withstand a one meter mechanical drop test onto
hard concrete. This test should not affect on normal safe operation of the unit
and also internal electrical and electronic components.
6-2 Vibration Test,
The welding machine with its frame shall be capable of withstanding a
vibration test according to ISO 12176-2
7 Packaging,
A suitable wooden or aluminum box recommended to be used for
packaging the welding machine in order to store and safe handling .
8 Documentation,
Supplier shall provide following documents for each unit :
-
Operation manual ( 3 sets ).
Maintenance and repair manual ( 3 sets ).
Recommended spare parts list for two years consumption.
Inspection and calibration certificate.
