Project Link Before & After-School Program (K-6)
Project Link is the before- and after-school program provided by
the Westlake Board of Education to families residing in Westlake.
Project Link is located at Bassett Elementary, Dover Elementary,
Hilliard Elementary, Holly Lane Elementary and Dover Intermediate – and is in session each instructional day from 6:30 A.M. until
the start of the school day and again from the conclusion of the
school day until 6:00 P.M. Our mission is to provide students
with an enriching, creative, and safe before- and after-school
experience – directly aligned with academic content standards.
Students are empowered to achieve personal growth and satisfaction in an environment, which is both exciting and nurturing.
The Westlake Board of Education charges $5.00/hour for the first
child and $4.50/hour for each additional child enrolled from the
same family – for Project Link care. There is also a $25.00/child registration fee. Project Link hours are purchased in blocks of twenty
and students are only charged for time physically spent within
the Project Link program, and once enrolled, students are able
to attend as often or as little as desired. Project Link enrollment
information is available at www.wlake.org/link, the Westlake City
Schools Administration Building or any school office.

to provide high-quality after-school activities that provide opportunities for middle school youth to: feel safe, improve academic

Create Graphic Novels – Grades 5-8
Learn to create graphic novels, a visually rich form of storytelling. Composition, formatting, inking, and coloring techniques
are all covered in this class. The popularity of the graphic
novel continues to grow, making graphic novels one of the
fastest growing sectors in publishing. Express your creative
side through this exciting and fun art form.

LifeTime Karate
Lifetime Karate has practiced the Korean Martial Art, Tae Kwon
Do on the west side of Cleveland for over the past 27 years. We
have honed and designed our program as a non-violent art
system that may be practiced for the rest of your life; a lifetime.
It is physical, mental and philosophical in discipline. Physically
students will develop coordination and a strong body. Mentally
students will build self-confidence, self-control and perseverance. Philosophically students will learn respect, humility,
integrity and courtesy. All aspects of the five tents of Tae Kwon
Do. This program is offered for all ages beginning at 7 to adult.
Classes are offered at Westlake High School on Wednesday
evenings or Saturday afternoons in 6 week sessions.

Taekwondo (Grades K-6)
The Westlake City Schools and Master Park’s Martial Arts are
sponsoring the after-school beginner Project Link Taekwondo
Club. Students will learn balance, coordination, strength, agility and conditioning. As well as being taught self-control, concentration, self-respect, manners, honor, fortitude, etiquette,
and basic Korean culture. Classes will be taught by Grand
Master Jong-Ho Park, Westlake Parent and proprietor of Master Park’s Taekwondo Academy. Master Park is a 7th degree
black belt with a Master’s Degree in Martial Arts Education
and former member of the Korean National Martial Arts team.

Mad Science
We spark imaginative learning after school! Mad Science has
created a vast library of unique after-school programs. Our
spectacular demonstrations, hands-on activities, and real
world discussions make learning about science fun for kids!
Our interactive, one-hour after-school science programs are
themed around particular areas of science and include such
topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers, and even the science
of toys. In each class, children are encouraged to give science
a try and build their very own model rockets, periscopes, Mad
Science putty, and more. Children even get to take home their
science experiments to show Mom and Dad!

Progress with Chess
Project Link is pleased to

and play chess. Many studies have shown that chess
playing improves higher
level thinking skills such
as memory, concentration
and pattern recognition. In
addition, chess provides opportunities for social interaction
with family and friends and people of all ages, cultures and
nationalities. No previous experience necessary – students
start at their own level. Instruction provided by Progress with
Chess, a local non-profit organization with chess programs in
over 40 Cleveland area schools and recreation centers.

Beck Center Drama Club (Grades 5-8)
The Westlake City Schools and Project Link are proudly
partnering with The Beck Center to provide the fall and
winter 2015-2016 LBMS Afterschool Drama Club. Students
will explore the basic elements of stage performance through
theater games, exercises and scene study. A perfect class for
getting started or reviewing and strengthening the fundamentals of acting. Students will also enhance basic acting
concepts such as stage presence, blocking and character
development through fun and fast paced improvisational
games and exercises. LBMS Drama Club will be taught by Mr.
Russel Stich who is the Artistic Director and founding member
of Something Dada Improvisational Comedy Co. and has over
sixteen years of improvisational performance experience
including playing the Best Man in Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding. He
directs for Olmsted Falls High School and served as Camp
Director at Hudson Theater Camp for sixteen years.
