Facilities Services Employee Newsletter A Message from our Interim Executive Directors June 2015 Employee Spotlight We asked our spotlighted employees to answer a few questions about themselves and here are their responses... Craig Whitfield, Facilities Manager, General Maintenance Team What I like best about working for UH: Energy of the campus Georgeann Smith Carlos Villarreal You may ask what Tier-One service means - it’s knowing your customer and providing what they need, when they need it in a professional, competent and courteous manner. In this first monthly Facilities Services employee newsletter, Carlos and I would like to announce a few changes that will assist us in providing better and more efficient service to our campus community. In the Employee Spotlight section, we have chosen to highlight three successful leaders in the Facilities Maintenance department, Liliana Simmonds, Ray Mosley and Craig Whitfield. These three were chosen because we have decided to split Facilities Maintenance into three distinct departments: Contracted Custodial Services/Inspections, General Maintenance Services and Custodial Services. The Contracted Services/Inspection team will be led by Ray Mosley. The inspection team will consist of four full-time Facilities Services Supervisors that serve as inspectors for both in-house and contracted custodial services and general maintenance. This dedicated team will provide us with a level of quality control required by the University’s Tier-One status. The General Maintenance team will be led by Craig Whitfield. Craig and his team will be tackling the on-going maintenance of our aging campus and looking for ways to provide Tier-One service while attending to the need to recruit and retain quality staff. Lastly, join me in congratulating Liliana Simmonds on her promotion to Facilities Services Manager. Liliana will lead the Custodial team addressing both skills training and performance assessment. These three leaders will be reporting directly to Carlos Villarreal, Interim Executive Director for Facilities Services. Additionally, there have been changes involving the Lock Shop. The Lock Shop and Key Control have been operating as one department for many years. As the campus increases its use of access control devices, there is a need for two separate groups. Richard Day will manage the daily operations of the Lock Shop while Penny Brungardt will manage Key Control. Richard and the Lock Shop will be reporting to Assistant Director Roger Warner while Penny and Key Control will report to Khanh Hodges. Key Control will move to the window area of the Call Center and distribute keys Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm. This change in schedule allows for greater security for our evening, night and weekend dispatchers working in the Call Center. While the Key Control department is forming, the Call Center will continue to distribute keys. I hope you will agree that these changes will allow us to improve our focus on delivering Tier-One service. Thank you for your continued support of the University and its mission.
