Social Studies
February and March
Newsletter
Over the past few months we
have been learning about
Canada’s Interactions with
the World. Students learned
about foreign aid, trade
policies like APEC and NAFTA,
inter-governmental agencies
like the UN and NATO, and
non-governmental
organizations like Ryan’s Well
Foundation, Free the Children,
etc. Students were able to
take one issue they were
interested in, and focus their
research inquiry project on.
Students learned how to
create a power-point on our
365 system, and presented
their findings as an expert on
their topic. Some of the
projects were based on very
interesting and thought
provoking wonderings the
students had throughout our
unit. They learned a lot about
global issues and were able to
share their research with the
rest of the class.

Language
Students are finishing up their poetry unit and have created some
beautiful and creative poems. A finalist from our class won the
junior division of our school’s poetry slam held in our gym in
January. Diego will be moving on in the competition to compete
against students from other schools. Good luck Diego! Look for
your child’s Poetry book to be coming home soon! Students will
now beginning working on persuasive writing, and their speeches.
Each student will present their speech to the class, and 2
students will be chosen from each class to perform in front of the
school. Good luck to all!
I Can Make a Difference Campaign
D
Just a reminder that all students in grade 58 are required to volunteer for a minimum
of 10 hours. Students were made aware of
this last year in grade 5, and were reminded
in September that this requirement is part
of the Religion component for Term 2.
Volunteer hours and their reflection sheet
are due the first week of May. Please
encourage your child to complete their
volunteer hours and get the appropriate
tracking sheet signed by the supervising
adult.
An Easter Prayer
Jesus, you have overcome death
And conquered every fear I could imagine
Help me to live each day remembering that You are
alive
That You are bigger than anything or any situation
And that Your power is real
Jesus, you're my hero and I'm walking with you.
Amen.

MATH
In Math, students have
recently focused on
Geometry. Students
learned about measuring
angles, constructing
polygons when given side
lengths and angle
measurements. Students
also learned about shape
rotations, reflections and
translations. Students will
now focus on Numeration;
adding and subtracting
numbers to the
thousandths. Measurement
will also be an area of
focus, and converting
certain units of measure to
others (meters to mm for
example). Whether
students have homework to
finish or not, all daily math
should be reviewed at
home so that their learning
is consolidated and
reinforced.
Alleluia He is Risen!
