Graieb Motion Approved 1 2013-2014 School Council Elections Mrs. Galvao, as per election protocol, opened Council Elections with a general overview of School Council and detailed the role and responsibilities of School Council Chair to begin the election process M. Wilson was the sole nominee and re-elected to the position of Chair for the second consecutive year M. Wilson, as appointed Chair, managed the remainder of the election process as per election protocol and reviewed the responsibilities for each role J. Balao was nominated for the position as Treasurer, and unanimously re-elected to the position M. Ieraci was nominated for the position as OAPCE Representative, and unanimously reelected to the position K. Szlapetis was nominated for the newly created position as Safe School Representative, and unanimously elected to the position C. D’Angelo was nominated for the position as Secretary, and unanimously elected to the position N. Graieb was nominated for the position as Parish Representative, and unanimously reelected to the position C. Panetta and C. Monahan were re-appointed to the position of Non-Teaching Representatives and unanimously re-elected to the position B. MacLeod and Sister R. To learn more about Catholic School Councils visit: http://www.dpcdsb.org/CCCSC/ Principal’s Report Faith New Associate Pastor to St. Anthony – Father Roger Pascall Father Roger will be organizing visits to classrooms based on various themes – teachers have had a template to complete in order for him to prepare Food drive week will be organized in early October First school mass will take place on October 7th at 10am at LBPCES LBPCES Pastoral Plan for 2013-14 will be sent home to families – youngest and only It will also be posted on the school website Catholic Education Week Theme: “Serving in the Love of Christ” – May 4-9th Community mass to celebrate Catholic Ed. Week on May 8th at 6:30pm at St. Anthony 2 Virtues Program – Faith, Empathy, Conscience, Hope, Self-Control, Respect, Kindness, Love, Acceptance and Fairness Teachers have signed up for monthly virtues celebrations – it may take the place of an assembly, announcements, posters, etc. Two students per class will be awarded a Virtue Certificate for demonstrating that virtue. Still in planning stage JK/SK will have a separate concert Halloween Dance and Valentine Dance will be confirmed soon; minimal entry cost for students to cover the cost of the DJ 3 Health & Safety/ Plan Locked Entry system has been installed – doors are locked at all times with the exception of one door being unlocked during recess First Fire Drill Practice took place on Thurs. Sept. 19th Kiss and Ride running relatively smoothly JK/SK Cross walk – soft entry/ exit Not very busy A few parents have been concerned as cars have parked on the cross walk – we are trying our best to monitor Parents are reminded not to come into the school yard during morning drop offs as well as during recess Due to the number of allergies, we ask that food not be brought to school for sharing or for special events Volunteers on trips / in School – new Board protocol – all volunteers must have completed a Criminal Reference Check Forms can be requested from the office This information was shared on the School Website BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY MATTERS Treasurer’s Report As of August 2013, there was a balance of $3209.90 in Council budget Lunch programs are an integral component to our fundraising efforts as it generates approximately $1,000 each year Chocolate fundraising letters have gone home to students. Chocolate sales is the largest contributor to Council’s budget. J. Balao to review grant list and identify any additional grant opportunities COMMITTEE UPDATES OAPCE (The Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education) No new information to report at this time For information about OAPCE visit: http://oapce.on.ca/oapce/ Parish Representative No new information to report at this time 4 Lunch Programs Suggestions to add / change Boston Pizza menu items is currently under review. N. Graieb is working with Boston Pizza to ensure that any menu changes comply with the School Food and Beverage Policy. Mrs. Galvao to review and approve any changes. Swiss Chalet Day was a success last school year; looking to schedule 2 days this year Sub Day is currently under review due to its profitability Fundraising Chocolate fundraising letters have been sent out to students. Boxes of chocolate will be sent home October 8 and all chocolate sales will conclude on October 21. Our goal is to sell 200 boxes This year each student will have the option to “opt out” of the fundraiser versus “opt in”. Each box includes 30 Nestle chocolate bars and the cost for each complete box sold is $90. Prizes for the chocolate fundraiser include: gift cards, a space scooter and a draw for approximately 18 students to win a limo ride to McDonalds for lunch M. Wilson has asked any available Council members to assist with the counting of money and collection of any unsold chocolate on October 21 Pro Grant School Council was awarded funds to create an event that promoted exercise / healthy living and encompassed family time for the parents and student of our school The intent is to book time ice time and a community room in April for parents and students to come out for a free skate Mrs. Galvao informed Council of a newly released School Board policy regarding concussions and new protocol. Mrs. Galvao requested Council put booking the ice on hold for further investigation into the policy. Mrs. Galvao will report back to M. Wilson with her decision regarding the skating event. Special Projects Classroom recess bins need to be cleaned out and organized. N. Graieb and M.
