By entertaining you and making nonfiction
We know that nonfiction books are written to
inform us about real facts. Today we learned
about a new kind of nonfiction that still informs
us about facts but uses elements of stories and
fiction to entertain and help us learn facts in a
new way. This type of nonfiction is called literary
nonfiction. The book Are You a Butterfly? uses an
interesting point of view by talking to us as if we
were butterflies. This form of nonfiction is a
combination of nonfiction and fictional stories.

real information more interesting and perhaps
easier to learn and remember. Let’s read more
about our lives as butterflies!
Read the entire book and finish the chart, reflecting with the
class on all that was learned about the life of a butterfly and
how it was easy to learn the facts because they were
presented in a new way.
