Developing Mindsets that Promote Growth What do we mean by “mindset”? Mindsets are the assumptions and expectations we have for ourselves and others. These attitudes guide our behavior and influence our responses to daily events. - Dr. Robert Brooks Parish Priest Father Jan Kolodynski Visit our School Website: www.dpcdsb.org/VIANN ———————————— Vianney is now on Twitter! For the latest news and information, follow us Tips for Fostering a Growth Mindset: Tip # 4. Be mindful of the goals you set for your children and the messages they send. Work with your child to set goals that are reasonable and desirable for both of you. All goals should emphasize growth – the development of a skill or the expanding knowledge. @VianneyBW Page 2 Newsletter #7 If you are planning a move or have already moved, please let us know. You are required to complete new assessment forms even if you move within our school boundaries. If you are moving to a new school we will give you a Transfer form to take with you to the new school. If you are moving but would like your child to remain at SJMV, please submit your request in writing to Mr. Waters. The principal of both schools must be in agreement before a decision is made. We are preparing classes for September 2015 and this information will be helpful in determining classes and trying to avoid reorganization. LIBRARY NEWS Mrs. Cornacchia would like to thank all Silver Birch students (Grades 4-6) who have been reading fiction and non-fiction books since January! It’s almost time to vote for their favourite book from the Forest of Reading. They were such a dedicated group of girls who took time out of their morning recess to read, answer comprehension questions and connect with other students. Thanks to: Shezan, Cynthia, Katrina, Batya, Vanessa, Ellina, Ofrue, Sierra, Myah, Samantha, Bianca and Sharon. I’m so very proud of all of you!! Mrs. Cornacchia FLAG FOOTBALL The Grade 6,7, and 8 students will be involved in a Lunch-time Co-ed Intramural Flag-football league during the month of May. The emphasis will be on fitness, team building and the development of skills. School teams will be selected to play in St. Roch's Flag-football tournament. Coaches: J. Bortolotto, P. Hilario, G. MacEachern, J. Quintana INTERMEDIATE BASKETBALL The Intermediate Girls Basketball team had been practicing together since early December. Their efforts definitely paid off as the girls enjoyed a spectacular season. The team made it through to the semi-finals of the Godzilla Invitational Tournament, finished first in the Brampton West Tournament, and represented Vianney at the Family Tournament. The girls not only demonstrated teamwork and dedication throughout the season but have also made great improvements in their basketball skills and knowledge. The coaches are extremely proud of: Eliza, Renee, Melina, Kaysan, Sara, Selena, Dana, Fayola, Brianna, and Cindy. Well Done girls! Coach: G.Ranalli, L. Mendoza, and S. Fiorelli BICYCLES/SCOOTERS With the change in weather, many students are beginning to ride their bicycles to school. Please take the time to discuss proper bicycle safety with your child/ren to ensure their safety. Please note students riding their bikes to and from school are expected to follow these directions: 1. Bikes are to be walked across the school property; PHONE MESSAGES We continue to have parents who expect students to be called from classrooms for a variety of reasons. Please be advised that instructional time will not be interrupted unless there is a clear emergency. Each day our office receives numerous phone calls from parents with messages for their children that should have been taken care of at home. If necessary, please do not call the school after 2:30 with messages for children. It is very disruptive and is difficult for us to ensure all of these messages are delivered. Your cooperation is appreciated. 2. Bikes are to be left in the bike rack area. Students are not to play in this area; 3. Bikes are to be locked; 4. In the event that a student does not follow the safety guidelines, their bike privileges may be lost. Newsletter #7 POETRY In Mr. Quintana's Gr.6/7 classroom, students wrote and studied different type of poetry and then celebrated their learning by presenting their poetic work in a Poetry Café.
