On behalf of the DPCDSB and the St. Raymond
School staff, I would like to take this opportunity
to welcome you and your children to what will
surely be another exciting and rewarding 20112012 school year. On behalf of the entire St.
Raymond School community I would like to extend a special and warm welcome to new families who have moved into the area. We are all
fortunate to be a part of a vibrant, successful and
caring school community that is now celebrating
its’ tenth year.
A letter from the Parish will be given to grade 2
students this week indicating the dates and
details involved in registration and parent meetings for this year.
As challenges abound in our society, our schools
and our families we are encouraged and
strengthened by our faith and sense of community in dealing effectively with these daily and
sometimes life-long issues. I know that the exemplary teamwork and positive parent-staff relationships that I have witnessed during my last 3
years here will continue to exist and flourish resulting in a strong, positive and harmonious
school climate with the main beneficiaries being
our students/your children.
As always, you are encouraged to contact the
school or myself personally at any time should
you have questions or concerns and I look forward to helping provide another safe, enjoyable
and effective learning environment for your children. May the 2011—2012 year be a great one
for you and yours!

Please be patient when dropping your child off in the Kiss n’ Ride area. We
have teachers and volunteers who will assist your child in getting out of your
vehicle safely. We always need more volunteers…. if you are interested in
helping out with this Kiss n’ Ride please contact Ms. D’Alessandro. Please do
not let your child out before you get to the drop off area. Also, please do not
park your vehicle in the driveway and leave it to escort your child to his/
her classroom. Parking is available on the side street around the school. Do
not park your vehicle in the staff parking lot or in the driveway. Mississauga
Safety Council and Parking Authorities are aware of this issue.

At this time, no re-organization of students/classes is anticipated. Parents will

Health Concern Alert
Co-Op/Teacher Candidate Program
It has become quite common in recent years for
children to develop allergies, some more severe
than others. There are several students attending St. Raymond who suffer from a severe food
allergy to nuts and / or nut products. In many
cases, contact with even the slightest residue
from nuts or a nut product can trigger a potentially life-threatening situation. For this reason
we ask that no snacks or lunches be sent to
school that contain nuts and /or nut oils.
This year we will host teacher candidates from York
University and co-op students from St. Joseph Secondary School. We are pleased to be part of these
exceptional training programs for the teachers of tomorrow.
Thank you in advance for your help in respecting the health concern of our students.
Attendance
It is important for the office to know when your
child is absent. We ask parents to call absences in and leave them on our 24 hour attendance line. State your child/ren’s name and
teacher’s name and the reason for the absence.
We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Parent/Guardian Community Visitors
Help us ensure that ALL of our students are safe at
all times.
When you come to St. Raymond, please sign in at
the office and identify yourself. While this may prove
inconvenient for you, we must insist that all visitors
first report to the office and receive a visitor’s sticker
before going anywhere in the school or school
grounds. When picking and dropping your child off in
the primary yard please remain behind the fence.
Teachers are instructed to send parents to the
office if they are not wearing a visitors sticker.
All students must sign back in at the office when they
return to school.
Bus Information
Lunches
We strongly encourage you to send your child’s
lunch with him/her in the morning. If you need
to drop off a lunch there is a lunch table set up
in the foyer. Please leave the lunch on the table
with the child’s name and teacher clearly
marked on the lunch.
Please do not congregate in the foyer area.
You are a stranger to all but your child. You
are blocking the doorway entrance which is a
safety issue. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Lunch Lady
We are again having Lunch Lady on Thursdays.
Start up is Thursday, September 22nd. Order
forms have been sent home. Please direct all
questions directly to Lunch Lady at 905-5699036 or www.thelunchlady.ca
We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation regarding transportation for our school.
Our school currently has one bus and one mini bus.
Only eligible students may ride the bus. Should there
be space available students may be granted seats on
the bus through the COURTESY SEAT policy. Parents are to make the request in writing stating the
child’s name, address, grade and a reason explaining
why the child needs a courtesy seat. Priority will be
given to the youngest students who live furthest
from the school. All requests should be sent to the
school by Monday, September 26, 2010. Seats will
be granted in late October.
NOTE: Bus students in JK, SK and Grade 1 must
be met at the stop. Your child should arrive at
the bus stop 5 minutes before the assigned time.
Due to construction on area roads buses are
sometimes late. **NEW** Information regarding
bus eligibility, routes, delays and cancellations
can be found at www.geoquery.ca and/or

Water bottless Wednesdays
Did you know? Only 1 out of every 6 water bottles is recycled? It takes 450 years
for a plastic bottle to decompose? City tap water is tested every 4 hours but bottled
water only needs to be tested once every 1 – 3 years?
Now you know why we want to eliminate the use of plastic bottles at St. Raymond.
On Wednesdays (or everyday) bring a reusable bottle to school (and work) INSTEAD
of a plastic water bottle. You will feel better and will help your school and community
reduce the amount of plastic in landfills. Let’s all do our part to help !!!!
Walking to School Route
L.I.O.N. Program
In collaboration with the Mississauga Traffic Safety
Council St. Raymond is a proud member of the
Walking Routes Project. To encourage students to
walk to and from school in groups there are signs
posted that look like shoes walking. If all students
walk on the sidewalks along the posted routes it
will maximize their safety.
L.I.O.N. is returning to St. Raymond School. LION
(Learning in our Neighbourhood) is a mobile early
learning centres program where parents and caregivers can talk to early childhood professionals
about parenting and early child development. Families can visit LION to attend parent/child interactive
play-based programs with a language, literacy and
numeracy focus. LION will run every Wednesday at
St. Raymond beginning Wednesday, September 14,
2011. For more info visit, www.successby6peel.ca
Virtue of the Month —FAITH
Gr.8 Student Website
In an effort to encourage strong parent-teacher
communication to maximize student learning, the
grade eight teachers have put together a website
which can be accessed by both the grade eight
students and their parents. In order to give parents
an idea of what's to come, important dates for
upcoming events will be constantly updated on the
Class Calendar page. For a more detailed look at
what is happening in our classroom, parents can
visit the Class Announcements. As well, the
website was set up in the hopes of keeping the
grade eight parents up-to-date on what the students
are learning in the classroom. Each week, the
students' homework assignments can be found on
the website. The website can be found at
www.sites.google.com/site/straymondsgrade8.
