SUPERINTENDENT’S ADDRESS - June 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been an extreme honour and privilege to have served as the Superintendent for the Mississauga South Family of
Schools for the past four years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing a Catholic school and entrusting our staff with the gift of providing a Catholic
Education for your children. I have so enjoyed meeting students during my school visits, and through special events such as Athletics, Academic Competitions, Youth Faith
Ambassador Rallies, Diversity and Catholic Education
Conferences to name a few. Over the years, I have been so impressed with student commitment to learning and their contributions to both the school and family of schools. Further, I have witnessed their commitment to faith formation through the various social outreach projects they have supported. Our students have continually modelled our gospel values and will be great advocates for Catholic Education in the 21 st century.
I would like to acknowledge our special staff at each of the 22 elementary and 4 secondary schools in Mississauga South for their continued hard work during the course of the 2012-2013 school year. My sincere thanks and appreciation also goes to our trustees for setting the vision and for ensuring that, through their hard work, commitment and dedication, that the vision is realized. I would specifically like to thank Chair Mario Pascucci and Trustees Sharon Hobin, Peter Ferreira and Bruno Iannicca for their continued advocacy for Catholic education Special thanks must also be extended to the pastors and pastoral teams for their commitment to our school communities and for leading us in the sacraments throughout the year. We have an amazing, dedicated community of staff, trustees, parents/guardians, students, priests ... all of whom have supported the Mississauga South Family of Schools. May God continue to bless us as learners and teachers and in all that we do.
I have had the gift of being in Catholic Education for the past 30 years and have made the decision to retire. I am going to miss working with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and Mississauga South Family of Schools. I am confident that our students will continue to strive for excellence, and become responsible Catholic citizens who will serve our community proudly. I will take with me the wonderful memories of the people within our community.
I wish you and your family a future filled with many blessings.
Sincerely,
Cathy Saytar
Superintendent
Mississauga South
“But thanks be to God, who in
Christ always leads us triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere”
2Corinthians 2:14
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the school community of St. Raymond for your contributions in making our school the wonderful place that it is and in making 2012-2013 a successful and rewarding year. SAFE SCHOOL COMMITTEE/ CATHOLIC HEALTH
ACTION TEAM
St. Raymond is committed to providing a safe, caring and inclusive school. We continue to encourage positive and healthy peer-to-peer relationships.
We will continue to deliver the message of anti-bullying throughout the entire school year, incorporating all of the virtues, in the hopes of creating a school where ALL students can feel safe and inclusive.
We remind the students regularly about safe practices during recess times such as no contact sports, no play fighting, and reporting problems to the teacher rather than taking matters into their own hands.
COPS FOR CANCER
St. Raymond supported the Cops For Cancer charity.
Students who donated a loonie or toonie received a
Badge of Honor to write their names on and placed on on a banner supplied by the police department. This banner was displayed at the Erin Mills Town Centre.
Thanks to all who donated.
LIFE THREATENING ALLERGIES
We would appreciate the cooperation of the entire school community by NOT sending any lunches or snacks that contain peanuts/nut products, seafood/shellfish, eggs, chickpeas, green peas, lentils and kiwi . This includes products like Nutella as well as Sushi. Please also be
aware that some salad dressings contain oyster juice which can cause a serious anaphylaxis response. Please do not send any food products to mark a child‟s birthday.
It is also prohibited to send your child to school with any
WowButter sandwiches. We want St. Raymond to be a safe environment for all students. Thank you for your
assistance.

A reminder that students are not allowed to use cell phones or pagers during
school hours. If you have a cell phone it should remain off during the school hours.
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (PEDS) ON SCHOOL
PROPERTY
As part of our efforts to promote and maintain a positive
Catholic climate in our schools, the board approved a policy regarding Personal Electronic Devises (PEDS) on school property. In this regard, all PEDs (i.e. cell phones, pagers and video games i.e.PSP‟s, IPods, etc) must be kept out of sight, turned off and not used within school premises or during school-sanctioned activities. To prevent the loss or damage of
PEDs, we encourage students to leave their PEDs at home as the school cannot be responsible for their safe keeping.

All students are reminded that the midriff and shoulders should be covered at all times and shorts should midlength. Also, students should not wear flip flops at school. While we want our students to be comfortable in the warmer weather, we must also maintain a learning environment that reflects our primary focus.
Please ensure that your child has protection from the sun by using sunscreen and wearing a hat on sunny days.
Dehydration can be serious! Students should bring their St.
Raymond reusable drink bottles to school, however they are not to be taken outside in the yard.

ensure that you read all street signs prior to parking on any side streets. It is also prohibited to park at Whitehorn Public
School. Please do not park at Whitehorn Public School as all parking spots are just enough for Whitehorn Public
School staff.
The city of Mississauga has been patrolling and have ticketed cars who are in violation of these parking procedures. St. Raymond School or the Dufferin Peel
Catholic District School Board will not be responsible for any fines that have been given to cars that are not following city parking by laws.
When students exit the car in the Kiss N Ride lane, they should use the passenger doors only to exit vehicles this will ensure students will be dropped off on the school sidewalk safely.
Under NO circumstances should vehicles be backing up or going the wrong way or parking. No vehicles are to park in the drive thru lane at any time. Absolutely NO CARS are permitted to drive in the bus lane.
School Kiss & Ride should improve the traffic flow and ultimately create a safer environment for the children.
Please be advised that teachers will not be opening car doors during the Kiss N Ride duty. For the safety of all teachers, students, and vehicles, teachers will only supervise students as they exit the vehicles. Parents may assist their child on exiting the vehicle, but are kindly asked not to park in the Kiss N Ride lane. We thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
HEAD START
Head lice are always present in the community. By checking your child‟s head once a week for head lice, you will catch it early and treat it before it has a chance to spread. Should you suspect that your child(ren) have head lice, please notify the school.
Remember, an infestation of lice is not a reflection on the cleanliness of your child. In fact, students with appropriate hygiene habits are as susceptible to lice as any other group
Any infected student will need to be checked before re-entry to class. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION

Church‟s life. „Sunday is the day on which the
Paschal Mystery is celebrated in light of the apostolic tradition and is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church.‟
Throughout the school year, students experience the mystery of Jesus Christ through celebrations, liturgies and mass. We encourage all of our families to maintain these traditions and obligations throughout the year by attending Mass as a family every Sunday. St. Joseph’s Parish mass times are as follows:
Saturday mornings – 9:00 a.m.

ST. RAYMOND GREEN TEAM
It‟s been an amazing year! St. Raymond‟s students, staff and community have worked together to make our school and environmentally friendly place to be.
Even though the school year is coming to an end, the
Green Team continues to work in our front gardens. Students have been weeding and planting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during 1st nutrition break (10:10-
10:55).
The Green Team also got a visit from Mrs.
Andonov, who taught them how to prep the milk mats to create mats for Haiti. We learned that it takes 500 milk bags to create 1 mat. This mats last 20 years. So instead of filling up the landfill, why not transform them into something useful. The Green Team would like the community to continue saving milk bags over the summer months .
Once school starts up again in September, students can bring them all in. The Green Team is eager to make our first milk bag mat in the fall.
