The WKU ALIVE Center is gearing up for a busy semester ahead
by KaiLee Viehland, The WKU Alive Center for Community Partnerships
The WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships will be hosting several events this
semester and encourages Western Kentucky University students to get involved.
The $100 Solution™ came to WKU bringing with it an opportunity for students to change the
Bowling Green community and beyond. Based on the idea that small amounts of money can
create a large and lasting impact, the $100 Solution™ challenges students to work with
communities to identify a problem, then create a solution using only $100. The Steps to a $100
Solution™ workshop will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 24 at Downing University Center,
room 226.
Another opportunity students have to get involved is the Engage and Exchange Challenge.
Students are encouraged to tell how they’ve engaged and interacted within the community in the
past year through an academic effort, organization project or personal experience. Students can
enter their work in one of three categories: multimedia, still photography and writing. The
winners from each category will win a cash prize. All submissions are due by March 18.
“The ALIVE Center recognizes the importance of developing students as engaged and informed
citizens who use their academic knowledge and expertise to create meaningful impact in the
communities they find themselves throughout their lives. We just want to make opportunities
available to them that foster social responsibility, as well as lifelong learning,” Center Director
Leah Ashwill said.
The WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships is always willing to help students turn
ideas into meaningful service and willing to speak to any student group or residence hall to help
develop projects using the Partnership Tool Kit. In addition, students can stay updated on service
opportunities through their volunteer listserv and listing of opportunities on their website.

Exchange Challenge or how The ALIVE Center can help you or someone you know become
