“Connecting Parents/Guardians and the School Community…”
Welcome to a new school year!
The
St. Monica School Council has been chosen
for the 2006-2007 year. We are pleased to
provide this newsletter to the parents and
guardians of St. Monica School to keep you
up-to-date on activities and events in our
school community.
Here is an introduction to our role as your link
to St. Monica School:
Why and How to get involved?
The meetings are open to all parents and
guardians of St. Monica School. We value
your input. If you have any concerns that can
be addressed by the Council or ideas about
how to enhance the educational experience of
our students, please feel free to approach any
of the Board Members. Your concerns or
suggestions can be included on the agenda
and addressed at the next Council meeting.
What is the School Council?
Who is on the School Council?
The School Council is a committee of parents,
guardians and staff at St. Monica School.
According to the Ontario Ministry of
Education, “School councils play a vital role in
the education system in Ontario. They provide
a forum through which parents and other
members of school communities can
contribute to improving student achievement
and school performance.” 1
St. Monica School Council represents the
parents/guardians by presenting your
suggestions and ideas to the school. We
support and encourage ways to enhance the
educational experience of our students. The
Council also contributes to the fund-raising
efforts in the school and helps to organize
volunteers for various events and activities.

office and we can call you.
The phone number and web address are

Communication is the key!
Communication is the foundation for any
relationship. The School Council plans to
continue enhancing our link between the
parents/guardians and staff of St. Monica
School. To do this, we will keep you up-todate with regular newsletters sent home with
your children and displayed on the bulletin
board near the school office. Newsletters will
also be posted on our web site.
We are also pleased to announce that a
permanent sign will be constructed on the
front lawn of the school to let you know about
special events and important dates!

First, thank you for helping us raise money to
improve our students learning environment.
It’s so exciting to see students already coming
back and asking for that second case!
You have until October 10th – the day after
Thanksgiving – to return your money
envelopes. Any cheques should be made
payable to St. Monica School Council. The
envelopes should be given to your child’s
teacher as soon as the chocolates are sold.
Please make sure that each of your children’s
names are on the envelope so we can put
each and every participant in our daily Early
Bird Draws (Oct 2nd - 6th).
We will also be tabulating which three families
will win our great prizes. You worked together
as a family to sell the chocolates and we want
to reward you as a family. Here are some of
