These activities mirror those on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) Please follow the timeline provided for the “Blitz Days” for OSSLT. These will be every Wednesday until Nov. 27th. It is up to you to ensure that the students in your class know when to bring their STM OSSLT Preparation Workbook to your class The students have been provided with the following pages to help them complete the activities: A list of key terms which they will see on the OSSLT Six student checklists corresponding to the activities An example student answer sheet (Please refer to these pages as you complete each activity) Before each activity is assigned, use the Checklists to briefly pre-teach/ guide the students’ work If you require more background on teaching any of the six activities an excellent resources can be found on our School Web Site – Learning – English – OSSLT help. STM. OSSLT PREP TEACHER’S GUIDE 4 Parents and Teachers are asked to formatively assess (no mark value given) all literacy activities. To do this, use the multiple choice answer keys for the reading activities and the Checklists or Rubrics for the writing activities. Teachers and Parents are asked to “flag” any students whom they deem to be ‘at risk’ based on the assessed activities. Please document your concerns and report them to the Literacy Committee at St. Michael. Ext. 29225. Your timely feedback is critical. We will use your input to provide more intensive support to these students. Please call the school regarding your son or daughter if you feel he or she is in need of additional literacy support. Call Jennifer Della Mea to register for after-school or in-school additional courses. (905) 951-8935 x 29225 5 STM.
