Harrison Vice-Principal A. Sodhi Secretaries N. Hajdinjak C. Walters Parish St. Francis Xavier Parish Pastor Msgr. Edgardo Pan These forty days are Yours, Lord, Days for thinking about our past And looking forward to our future, Help us grow in love for You, Help us become Your daily friend. We are sorry for our sins because They cloud our friendship with You. We are sorry for our sins because They keep our world from The happiness it can achieve. Help all of us to put Lent into our lives, And in doing this Learn to love You so much more. Amen "In the poor and outcast we see Christ's face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ." — Pope Francis, Message for Lent (905) 890-5290 Trustee T. Thomas (905) 890-1221 Superintendent L. Papaloni School Council Chair Silvia Rinaldi Attendance Verification Line (905) 501-0400 Press #1 What is Lent? Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter, lasting 40 days (not including Sundays). We prepare for Easter by fasting and practicing spiritual disciple during this time. Lent is a strengthening our relationship with him— it’s a time to bring us closer to God. During Lent we stop filling our lives with temporary happiness (like candy, video games) and make more room for God. We are asked to “give up” something but we are also encouraged to “give back”. Charity is an important part of our Lenten promise. LUNCH TIME If you are taking your child out for lunch, please be aware that you or your designate must come in to the front foyer to meet the child. Children cannot wait outside for pickup. Students must be signed out and into school via the binder in the main office if entry or exit times are different from regular school hours. PHONE CALLS The office often gets requests from students to make phones calls home to ask parents to bring forgotten items : homework, agenda, gym clothes. We are reinforcing with students that it is their responsibility to bring all necessary items to school. Students will NOT be given permission to use the phone to make such calls. SZEKERES Stephanie, Katarzyna In March we celebrate the Virtue of Kindness A Person of Kindness… Says nice things about others so they feel good about themselves Sticks up for people who are picked on or need help Refuses to join others who are in sulting, intimidating, mean or hurtful Watches and looks for ways to help those in need God has given us the gifts of friends and companions to keep us company and to help us out along the way. Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God. As brothers and sisters who share one Holy Spirit, we are all valuable to God. We have all been given the fruit of the Spirit called kindness. Kindness can only be seen through actions. It’s not enough to say I will be kind or I am kind. We must show that we are kind by our words and our actions. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at showing kindness to everyone we meet. UPDATED INFORMATION: If you have changed your cell phone number, home phone number, address, email address. PLEASE notify the office immediately. It is extremely important to have all up-to-date information in case of an emergency. If your child requires to take medication, please see the office for appropriate forms. School staff will not be able to administer medication without these forms. Your child should not have any medication in the lunch bags or school bags. All medication must be stored in the office. KISS AND RIDE At San Lorenzo Ruiz student safety is our number one concern. We value and appreciate the parent volunteers and staff who have managed our Kiss and Ride every morning and afternoon to ensure everyone’s safety. We are kindly reminding parents that if you are dropping off or picking up your child/children to: NEVER leave your vehicle. Kiss and Ride lanes are to be “moving laneways”, not parking spots. This ensures that emergency vehicles or busses may enter the school. Please do not leave your vehicle at any time. If you need to directly pick up your child, please park on the street. PARKING AUTHORITY WILL BE TICKETING CARS ($100.00 FINE) THAT ARE LEFT UNATTENDED. DO NOT BLOCK the entrance of the Kiss and Ride. Emergency vehicles and busses must always have easy and quick access to our school. Remain in your vehicle and move up as the traffic moves. PLEASE RESPECT ALL STAFF ON DUTY. If staff have asked you to return to your vehicle or to move your vehicle, respectfully do so. REPORTING OF HEAD LICE: How do you know you have head lice? One of the first signs of head lice is an itchy scalp. But it is possible to have head lice without any symptoms. If you think your child has head lice, check his hair for nits right away, then again after 1 week and after 2 weeks. How do I check for head lice? To confirm a case of head lice, you need to find live lice. Children can have a few nits without actually having a case of head lice. Usually children have no more than 10 to 20 live lice. Good lighting is important when you are checking. Head lice move fast and are hard to see. They are usually found very close to the scalp, at the bottom of the neck and behind the ears. To look for nits, part hair in small sections, moving from one side of the head to the other. Check carefully, looking close to the scalp. Should children with head lice stay home from school? Children with head lice should be treated immediately with medicated shampoo and nit-combs, and should not return to school until they are free of nits and live lice. If your child has head lice, please treat them immediately. Teach your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children until the lice are gone. Children should not share combs, hairbrushes, caps, hats or hair ornaments. MILK BAGS: We are continuing to collect the outer shell of milk bags. The plastic milk bags will be used to make blankets that are sent to Sierra Leone. THE GREAT GULP: On Friday, March 13th all students at San Lorenzo, as well as students across our board, will celebrate Peel tap water by taking part in a school wide synchronized drink of tap water. Please send your child to school with a reusable water bottle or cup so that they can make a toast to tap water. Peel tap water is a safe, clean and convenient choice that is good for your health and the environment. Congratulations To our Junior Girls Basketball team for winning the Mississauga Brampton central family of schools Tournament. They are moving to the board tournament at St. Michael’s high school in Bolton on wed. March 4th. San Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic School COLD AND FLU SEASON Please use discretion in keeping your children home to recover if they are ill. A child who is coughing, wheezing, has a fever, etc. is not in a state to learn and will only infect others. If a student is sent to school, it is assumed that hey will participate in all aspects of the school day, including outdoor recess. We do not provide individual indoor supervision. DRESS WARMLY! We also remind parents to dress students for weather conditions. We will be having outdoor recess, weather permitting, as much as possible. At all times, we follow the Board guidelines for inclement weather. Snow pants for primary and junior students are recommended. Snow boots are essential for play on the snow. Hats, gloves are also necessary items to keep warm. Indoor shoes are needed! Students are not permitted to wear boots in side the classrooms. For safety of all students, dry shoes must be worn inside the school. It is highly recommended that students have an extra pair of dry socks and clothing in their back packs.
