Schroders appoints Nicolaas Marais as
Head of Multi-Asset Solutions

Schroders today announces that Nicolaas Marais will join the firm as Head of Multi-Asset Solutions in
March 2011. Nico is currently Global Head of Active Portfolio Management in BlackRock’s multi-asset
client solutions group. He will become a member of Schroders’ Group Management Committee,
reporting to Michael Dobson, Chief Executive.
John McLaughlin, who has successfully led Schroders Multi-Asset business since 2008, will work
closely with Nico, reporting to him, and will focus on driving forward our business in LDI and Structured
Solutions.

Nicolaas Marais
Nico is currently Global Head of Active Allocation Portfolio Management in BlackRock’s multi-asset
client solutions group responsible for designing, implementing and managing multi-asset portfolios and
investment solutions. Nico’s service with BlackRock dates back to 2000 including his years with
Barclays Global Investors (BGI) which he joined in 2000 from the World Bank. Nico studied at the Kiel
Institute of World Economics in Germany, holds a M.Comm from the University of Stellenbosch and a
PhD in Economics from the University of South Africa.
