PRAYER FOR LENT
Lord of heaven and earth, you lead us up the mountain to
show us something new,
You show us the beauty of life, the wonder of creation,
the goodness of family, the fun of good friends.
You ask us to let go:
Of pride
Of selfishness
Of meanness
You invite us to open ourselves:
To gentleness,
To love,
To You.
Children born in 2011 must be registered for
FDK!!! Register Immediately!!!
Principal’s Message
During this wonderful season of Lent, we journey together as a school community.
We are called to recognize
our need to change and to
heed the call of God in our
daily lives. It is a time for
Catholics to turn away from
sinfulness— to have a
change of heart— as they
prepare for the joyous feast
of Easter.
It is time for prayer, penance
and works of charity for others. Students are also encouraged to participate in
our school-wide ShareLife
activities. Let us all work together this season of Lent to
perform acts of charity and to
display to others the generosity
of St. Joseph Catholic School.
Our Youth Faith Ambassadors
are leading the Stations of the
Cross at St. Joseph Parish this
Friday, March 6 after 7:30 p.m.
Mass.
March Break takes place from
March 14 to March 22 inclusive.
I’m sure we are all looking forward to spending some time
with friends and family.
Finally, at the end of March we
will celebrate Holy Week and
Easter. Spend some time this
Holy Week focusing on the
promises that God has made to
us; that we will never die, that
we are not on our own on the
journey of life, that God sent
his only Son, Jesus to die on the
cross for our sins so that we
might have eternal life.
On behalf of the entire staff, I
wish you and your family a
peaceful and blessed Easter.
Sincerely,
C. Bacci
Principal
Water in the Yard
As we are hopefully moving toward Spring, water and
mud around the school yard is inevitable. If students
get wet, our school approach is to contact parents to
bring dry clothing. We direct our students to stay away
from pools of water. This may be inconvenient for
some parents who work outside the home. Please place
an extra pair of socks and track pants in your child ’s
backpack in the event that a change of clothes is necessary.
March Break
March Break school, Monday,
will take place March 23, 2015.
this March 14
to 22, 2015.
Have a safe
and happy
holiday! See

April: KINDNESS
Class Lists for September
Staff of St. Joseph School will soon meet regarding
the organization of students into classes for September, 2015. If your children will attend St. Joseph
School next year and there are any learning needs
you feel need to be addressed when making up
classes please do so in writing to Mrs. Bacci by April
10, 2015. Letters that list a specific teacher or names
of other children with which you would like your
child placed will not be considered. Information
from many sources will be pooled to help us
make the best placement for all children. All
staff work very hard on these lists to balance
classes including learning styles, teaching
styles, gender, and a cross section of abilities.
Bear in mind as well, that as a small school and
primary class restrictions (limit 20 students) that
combined classes are a fact of life and children
will have this experience from time to time.
A message from the Eco
Team!
To encourage healthy eating, on Friday, March
27 students will be participating in the Great Big
Crunch. This event consists of everyone taking a
bite of a fruit or vegetable at the same time. Our
goal is to get more students eating fruits and/or
vegetables for their snacks. A special thank you
to our School Advisory Council for providing an
apple for EACH student to enjoy during the Big
Crunch!
We will also be participating in the BIG GULP on Friday, March 13. This is to bring
awareness about the importance of Peel drinking water in our lives. All staff and students are encouraged to bring in a reusable water bottle and fill it with free tap water.
All classes will assemble in the gym and simultaneously take a BIG GULP of water in
union!
Don't forget, Earth Hour is on Saturday, March 28th at 8:30p.m. Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF).
This event is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for
their commitment to the planet. Earth Hour shows how great things can be achieved

All of our students enjoyed exchanging valentines and participating in special activities

Special thanks to DJ’s - Conrad and Ian who DJ’d all class dances to rave reviews!!!
Michael E. Williams
On Tuesday, February 24th, 2015 the famous Canadian
broadcaster Michael Williams came to St. Joseph Streetsville
Catholic Elementary School! He shared stories with our students as well as various experiences he’s had as a broadcaster. He spoke to us about Black History as well as sharing how
the election of a Black President in the United States has
inspired youth and changed society. He calls this the “Obama
Effect.”
Thanks so much to Riley for in Grade 8 for finding our fantastic speaker for Black History Month, and for our Musical Interludes every morning celebrating diversity for the month of
February. This was especially welcome during the many very
cold inclement mornings in February!
Our Parent Council was kind enough to fund this terrific
event for all the students to attend.
