I would like to share a sincere thank you to all students, parents and staff for all they did to make Christmas a time of sharing at St. Berna dette School. Father Joseph led us in the Ad vent Mass. The choir sang beautifully. Stu dents all joined in the prayers. The spirit of Christ was evident. The Christmas Concert was a wonderful celebration of talent and community. Students practiced, teachers lead and parents applauded. What a wonderful gift to share together. Our community was ex tremely giving. The branches of the mitten tree were loaded with warm woolies. The tree was lit with stars to signify the generous gifts. Finally, the boxes under the tree were filled with food items for the food bank. It is truly wonderful what we can do to help those in our community when we all work together. I hope everyone had a peaceful holiday. I look forward to continuing to work together in 2011. The P.A. day this term is Friday, January 14, 2011. This date has been set aside for teachers to write report cards. The secretary will not be here to answer phone calls. Please leave a mes sage on our machine. Virtue of the Month of January is………. With the arrival of colder weather, we continually remind students that they are expected to remove their winter boots once they are in the building. Please ensure that your child has indoor shoes. Wet floors and hallways can possibly result in slippery conditions. Also, if the fire alarm sounds or if we need to vacate the building, there is no time for the students to put on their boots. Snowballs When the cool months arrive and snow and ice on the ground is plentiful, we all like to play in it and with it. Throwing snowballs and sliding on ice is fun. However, as much fun as it is, snow and ice can be very dangerous when lots of people are in a small area. Our school yard is a small area where approximately three hundred fifty students have recess. In order for our school to be as safe as possible, the school rule must be that snow stays on the ground-no snowballs, kicking snow or any other activity with snow or ice that could be harmful, is permitted. School Yard Safety Just a reminder that student supervision begins at 8:15; students must not be dropped off at the school before this time. Rough Play While outside during recess students sometimes find themselves engaging in inappropriate activities that involve rough play. Pushing, shoving, tackling, play fighting and wrestling are all unacceptable activities that compromise student safety. Please reinforce with your children the inherent dangers of rough play, even when the intent is fun. St. Vincent de Paul Society KISS ‘N RIDE PROCEDURE PLEASE NOTE THAT CARS ARE NOT TO USE KISS ’N RIDE and THE BUS LANE AT ANY TIME. Parents please do not leave your car unattended in any of the Kiss ‘N Ride lanes at any point in the school day. If you are dropping off a lunch for your child please park your car in a designated parking spot or on the street, and bring the lunch to the lunch table. For safety, students may not exit to the Kiss ’n Ride to pick up a lunch. We ask that parents use extra caution when using our Kiss ‘N Ride lanes in the winter months. Please drive safely and take your time. Our focus is always to keep all of our students safe. On behalf of our teaching staff and administration we would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all the families for their generosity. The St. Vincent de Paul Society was thrilled with the toys, hats, mitts and vouchers we were able to donate to families to help everyone have a very Merry Christmas. Thank you to the Student Council for coordinating this event. 3 Catholic School Council Meeting Our next Catholic School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. We will meet in the conference room. It is most important that we have up-to-date records of your address, phone numbers, and emergency contacts in the event that the school must contact you regarding your child.
