Christine Stoliecki - PSCN Faculty The Honors Program would like to introduce Christine Stoliecki to the Honors Program faculty. She holds a B.A. degree from Aquinas College and an M.A. from Michigan State University. She is also working toward a doctorate degree. Relatively new to campus, Christine has been impressed with the Mott’s commitment to teaching: “I have learned so much about teaching from other faculty members who are also committed to student success. I feel very lucky to be in such an enriching environment.” This coming fall Christine will be teaching PSCN 171: Introduction to Political Science—a timely course that will overlap with the 2012 presidential election. “The goal of this class is creating informed citizens capable and willing to become active in political life,” says Stoliecki. “Students will engage in lively conversations about contemporary political events and actors while analyzing these events using theoretical frameworks.” Christine is excited at the prospect of teaching—and learning from— the “talented students” who take classes together in the Honors Program. 2012 Winter Honors Program Retreat The Honors Winter Retreat was held February 18th. Two dozen HP students challenged themselves on the high ropes course to develop team-building skills. Thanks to the Campus Life Enrichment Fund for funding support and to Michael Tews (Public Information) for taking these great photos. Team-building – It’s harder than it looks! Those who dared: 2012 Winter Retreat attendees Mariana Barillas and Melanie Holland on the climbing wall There is a level of exhilaration that exists when you are 20 feet in the air and totally outside your comfort zone. My heart was racing when I repelled for the first time, not to mention walking the tight rope. The cooperation emphasis will help me to become a better teammate. Angela Hood Pam Sardo is up high The value of participating in the Winter Honors Retreat is priceless. When you allow yourself to be pushed outside your comfort zone, you become real. Thank you for the experience. Heather Ketzler April Payne walking the dreaded beam Vikki Fant and Tichanti Sweeney I witnessed friends holding hands of their colleagues, helping them across a beam. I pushed myself to walk across a rope I swore I would have no part of, while my friends cheered me on. I looked up to a colleague, while on the rope, to see her smiling and reassuring me that I could do it. Thank you! Monica Wolf Mott Campus Clowns a BIG Hit in Philadelphia From March 10 – 18, the clown troupe was in Philly for Alternative Spring Break to make goodwill appearances at VA hospitals, nursing homes, childcare centers, Boys and Girls clubs and other community agencies. They also participated in the 242nd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. News coverage of the clowns included USA Today.com. The clowns made Mott and the City of Flint proud!
