On February 15th, the Honors Program held its annual Team-Building Retreat in the Regional
Technology Center. 30 Honors Program students and two faculty members completed challenge initiatives in the RTC building, including dismantling loaded mouse traps while blindfolded!

Wow, I’m totally exhilarated. That is an experience I will never forget. Coming together as a group, supporting each other, was a wonderful sight. I think this retreat should be open for everyone to come and conquer fear, or build stronger relationships with friends and/or co-workers.
Some values this experience has revived in me are patience and trust.

I had an amazing time!
I’ve been at MCC for two years now, but have only come to know a few people. The retreat gave me the opportunity to meet some really great people while overcoming a deep rooted fear of heights.

From March 9 – 17, the clown troupe traveled to Philly for Alternative Spring Break where they performed school assemblies complete with songs, skits and magic—all with an anti-bully message.
The Mott Campus Clowns also participated in the
243rd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade
and hosted a fundraiser for Old First Reformed Church , which housed the honors students during their stay.
On January 21st, 45 Mott students and staff came together in the Event
Center to make no-sew fleece blankets for local veterans and families in need. The event was generously sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa. 20
Honors Program students took part in this service project. According to
April Eubanks,
“It was a great opportunity for me to show my children a productive way to honor Dr. King while giving support to our veterans.”

Bobbi won the
Phil Braun Award in 2010
Last fall, 2010 Honors Program graduate Bobbi Coates earned her BA in
Criminal Justice and Sociology. She is currently a graduate student at U of M-
Flint working on a Masters Degree in Public Administration. After taking the
LSAT and completing the arduous application process for law school, Bobbi was accepted to Cooley, MSU and Wayne State. She will begin this fall at
Wayne State partly because she was offered a full-tuition scholarship. Bobbi offers the following advice to current Honors Program students:
Join everything you can, and jump in with both feet. The Honors Program at Mott meant extra classes and extra work, but the classes were enriching and still look great on my transcripts. Great grades are not enough. Your involvement in Honors programs, student organizations, and your community will set you apart from the "Just give me my degree" crowd.
