January 19th, 2014 – SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Today’s readings challenges us to live and die like the Lamb of God. In both the first and second readings God calls individuals to
service. In the first reading, from the Songs of the Suffering Servant in Isaiah, the aspects of the Lord’s life and mission are
foreshadowed. Paul reminds the Corinthians in the second reading that “they are sanctified and called to be holy.” The gospel
presents three themes: a) John’s witness to Jesus, b) Jesus’ epiphany and identification as Lamb of God, and c) the call to
discipleship. Those who accept the call gradually accept the identity of the One who calls them.

Movie & Spaghetti Night
Lectio Divina with Thomas Cardinal Collins
January 31 – 7:30 p.m.
Saint Francis Xavier Parish invites you to a “Movie & Spaghetti
Night” on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at the Main Hall. The movie
entitled “The 13th Day,” is a remarkable re-telling of the story of
the miracle at Fatima. This is a reminder of a very important
message for the World, contained in God’s proclamation
transmitted to the children of Fatima.----See you there for a family
bonding night. Your “love offering” is appreciated.
Retreat Weekend with Fr. Ron Rolheiser,
OMI.
February 7-9, 2014 at Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre, 1617
Blythe Road, Mississauga
One Sunday evening each month, (Date coming up: Feb. 2,
2014), all are welcome to join Cardinal Collins, for Lectio Divina
at St. Michael's Cathedral. We begin with Vespers (Evening
Prayer) at 7 p.m., followed by Lectio Divina from 7:30 to 8:15
p.m. This year, Cardinal Collins will be reflecting on the Gospel
of Mark.
“Lectio Divina” [“divine, or sacred, reading”] is the name given
to a spiritual tradition among Christians over the last two
thousand years, in which they attentively and prayerfully read the
word of God. In Lectio Divina we seek not to master or grasp the
sacred text, but rather through it, prayerfully and silently, to come
into the presence of God. We seek to be humbly attentive to
God’s Holy Word, to savour it, and to let it enter into our heart as
much as our heads, so that it may transform us.

Finding God wherever you are: selected spiritual
writings / Francis de Sales
By Joseph F, Power
248.4 POW
(St. Francis de Sales Feast day: January 24th)
Deep within, every human being is searching: there are those
who, consciously or not, seek God, and there are those who,
having "found" God in some degree of faith, seek for ways to
deepen their contact with the divine in prayer and to live in
relationship with God. St. Francis de Sales outlined a way in
which people could live God's love fully within their families,
among their friends and in their places of work. Anyone seeking a
relationship with God and practical ways of carrying out this
devotion in daily life will find this book valuable.
